Menu plan for the week. With the caveat that DS is taking charge of cooking for university practice.

Chilli.
Easy peasy pasta by Bosch.
Jack fruit/veggie wrap.
Sausage, egg, beans (or some combination).
Curry with rice.
Stir fry
Roasted red pepper something and something else as I have bought a million cheap at Sainsbury's just now.
Three bean and pepper rice (I've yet to make this up).

Lunches will be jacket spuds, pasta salads, cous cous salad, hummus and wraps.

TakeItSlow · 27/08/2018 15:12

Girlie* I know what you mean about the left arm pain being worrying. Left arm and chest pain are some of the main symptoms of chronic hyperventilation which is my thing, and I know its completely harmless but it still give me the weebles. I'll be crossing my fingers here for you that someone can give you some reassurance tomorrow.

I'm laughing at the making memories thing here because I've dragged ds to a communion service, an evensong service and an extremely earnest choral performance in two days, just because I myself wanted to go. He is getting mildly militant, but has been pacified with two feast ice lollies.

I'm grinning like a big stupid idiot, because I enjoyed the music, and more particularly because I enjoyed having a natter with an old friend after the choral thing.

WreckTangled · 27/08/2018 15:13

We went to the cinema and got snacks from Sainsbury's. £2.50.

£14 on a lamp I've wanted for ages. It's was reduced from £18.

LonelyOversharer · 27/08/2018 15:25

I call bullshit too on the "making memories" thing, my sister is nuts about it, doesn't let her dc sit still and chronicles each and every move they make. In case they forget any memories.

My dc fend for themselves mostly! It's only since I've been working that we have gone out for a Sunday treat day, not that we did anything yesterday.

I took them all with me Grin they're not that bad, and pester power currently nil. Comes from years of having no money. Dd1 nagged for nurofen, bless her for period pain. Asda was £95 but that was lots of fruit and veg, dog food, lunch treats etc. Plus some pe kit bits. £6 greggsies on sausage rolls, impromptu car picnic!

Put £50 diesel in the car too. So asda spend £145. That gives me £1.45 cashback for Christmas, and used my phone app to pay £150 straight off the card Halo

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/08/2018 15:48

£47 diesel, 5.20 ice cream at the park. Moany tired children today #notenoughsleep #makingmemories #grumpyfamily. Grin

Ok I'm twatting off now

4th wash load on but the weather is shite. Will be better tomorrow.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/08/2018 16:06

£6 top
£12 work supplies.

Big clear out here today & we've still got two more bags for the tip on Thursday.

Making pitta bread dough in the breadmaker. Why have a dog and bark yourself?. 11p for 8.

Not a bad deal, even if just for the bath towels.

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/08/2018 16:31

The heavy weight baking stuff is on offer in Sainsbury's. Here is the 2lb loaf tin as an example

The Friendly Frugaleers- Autumn is on its way !
Frogletmamma · 27/08/2018 16:34

Just come back from an activity holiday in Wales. Spent the last 3 days watching tv and sleeping. Spent £45 on groceries plus probably another £10 through the washer-dryer

TakeItSlow · 27/08/2018 16:47

I figured out a thing on our holiday. It really took a load of my shoulders having a rented house that was right next to a big supermarket. One day I had to go there three times in an hour because I had run out of stuff, but the great thing was that I didn't need to do any planning at all because I knew I could just nip next door to buy things. It really reduced that thing that they call "mental load". I'm going to remember that for future holidays.

Wolfcub · 27/08/2018 16:54

Life that’s a great reason to go to Sainsbury’s. Must wait until after pay day though

Justanothermile · 27/08/2018 16:59

The Sainsbury's bakeware is excellent quality isn't it? I'll take a look thanks. I've £170 in Nectar points. Cheers Life Smile

QuitelovesStrictly · 27/08/2018 17:15

All my baking stuff is from Sainsburys -brilliant quality and always half price .
I keep it like new with liners and its heavy gauge just dont drop it on your foot
Oh dear food prices up 5 % soon.
I did have a look at Sainsburys Basics range ,doesnt seem much left in the range .
I wonder if they have given that up on response to Aldi/Lidl and assume their customers are loyal and will just pay more.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 27/08/2018 17:22

Play date with 2 extra children ended up being 4 extra children Shock they've had fun & now two are gone home

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/08/2018 17:59

I really like the heavyweight stuff. I will soon need loaf tins but not yet as I use the paper liners

Wolfcub · 27/08/2018 18:21

I’d like the loaf tin. I use a free lurpak one currently and I love paper liners

ChristmasSeacow · 27/08/2018 18:22

Ooh I might take a look at that bakeware. My loaf tins are crap, bought ultra cheap when I was a student!

Girlie I had s slipped disc back in May, just after my DF and DGM died (just to compound my misery, though it also gave me something else to think about!). I was given naproxen, which really helped. I definitely didn’t feel weird on it but I couldnt handle cocodamol, I felt smashed and fainted a couple of times. So stuck with the naproxen. I couldn’t even get out of bed at first but very gradully got back to ‘okay’ over a 3-4 week period, and then another couple of weeks to ‘normal’. I kept moving as much as possible but avoided lifting as much as possible (had to buy in some help with the baby, which was £££). It was not a good time in my life. I hope you feel a bit better soon, defo think an assessment with a well qualified physio would be a real help.

Ooh, smelly baby, back in a bit...

TakeItSlow · 27/08/2018 18:27

I had forgotten that time with your sore back Christmas. I'm really glad to hear that that got better.

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/08/2018 18:42

Just picked up a heritage weekend leaflet for Durham area today. It's the 6-7 and 12-13 September. Lots of interesting and free days out. Might be worth a look in your area.
I want to do the behind the scenes cremation tour but dh thinks it's not suitable for the DC he is right

Wolfcub · 27/08/2018 19:12

Tea made and eaten. Minor gardening done and heavy gardening rubbish bag disposed of (this part was not sensible), ds is icing his buns and I’m settling down to watch the repair shop.

I’ll look out for that Life

Hope everyone has had a lovely bank holiday. All this baking talk has made me really want to eat cake. I don't really have much bakeware so we went B&M to buy some sweets instead and found haribo sour rhubarb and custard for 39p a bag. What a result! We then headed to the playground to burn off the sugar and I bumped into a group of parents I know and had a good chat so that was nice.

Spoke with DM on the phone and she commented how much we have been out and about this school holidays which I think has been fuelled by stretching out money further. So maybe there is something in this frugaleering malarky after all...

ememem84 · 27/08/2018 20:27

Lovely afternoon. Ds napped then we went to visit fil. And walked round the lanes near his house and picked a celebrations tub of blackberries. And another one of sloes.

Ds met another horsey.

Sloes and blackberries have been popped in the freezer for jam and gin. Yay. #successfulforaging

I’m on the fence with the making memories shite. On the one hand I think #makingmemories is a load of old bollocks. On the other, I like taking pictures of ds. And like posting the nicest ones on Instagram. But I don’t post with #makingmemories or any of that shite. I’m good at a hashtag though. Totally aware of social meeeeeja and how you’re meant to only post your best you and make everyone else feel jealous.

I occasionally post #wellthatsfuckedit posts or #buggerit when things go wrong.

I have a friend who makes memories. She spends all her time watching her kids through a screen. And never sees them do anything amazing with her own eyes.

Have challenged dh to at least three nsd’s This week. And every week.

LonelyOversharer · 27/08/2018 20:37

Frugal Fail! On my once in a while jog through facebook I found an advert. I never chick on them, but did this one. Vio store. Have spent £46 on a hoodie and T for dd1 for christmas. The one I went for is totoro with Van Goghs starry sky along the top. Have high hopes that she will love it. Paid through paypal, so thats Christmas fund money.

Pic is the advert that hooked me in!

Yy em it's the watching your dc through screens and posing them and shameless social media bragging that leaves me cold. There's a funny thread about it on here I was reading. Nowt wrong with taking photos.

The Friendly Frugaleers- Autumn is on its way !
mammynowanauntyIRL · 27/08/2018 21:17

A girl I know has created hashtags for each of her children & another has the hashtag #mommy&dsname

I prefer to be in the moment with dc and get a couple of photos to mark days out & to look at when I'm at work
