I AM IN!

ipsos · 27/08/2015 16:19

Me too!

Whatabout · 27/08/2015 16:28

Just repeating my post from August as my place marker.

Braved going into town today, I remembered I could park for free if I worked a tiny bit further. I went to the card factory and bought birthday cards for the next year and the family Christmas cards. I spend £26 but I got 30+ cards so vey good value when I'd usually grab them from John lewis or waitrose at £3-5 a card. Spent £1.80 on a biscuit for me and a sausage roll for DH in Greggs, nice afternoon treat and less than i would have spent on parking.

Whatabout · 27/08/2015 16:30

So September will see me going down to mat pay and having another baby. I'm hoping we won't have to spend too much on takeaways or parking at the hospital! I'm going to do a weekly shop order for each September week tomorrow so that fresh food will magically appear!

I'm in, I'm watching that anne robinson show. That poor woman being sneered at by a teenager. The mum and daughter are a little club aren't they?.

NSD & I sold a pair of jeans for £15. I paid that for them so with postage and fees it will have cost me about £5 to wear them for a year.

Happy Belated Birthday Sweet Flowers

Whatabout · 27/08/2015 16:37

Happy birthday!

Collieputthekettleon · 27/08/2015 16:38

Ello frugaleers!

Just frittled £35 away Angry bit pissed off at myself. i bought new cot sheets which are desperately needed. But.... I bought Jersey ones & not flannelette. I didn't take the upcoming season into consideration. I bought DH a new Winter jumper for work which was reduced from £35 to £15. And I bought myself reduced 60D tights at Sainsburys. Also one pair of dark purple tights for £2 at Sainsburys.

babsmam · 27/08/2015 16:41

Shameless place marking Grin

TheOnlyPink · 27/08/2015 17:19

Wow September. Love Autumn, so excited to see its well on the way!
lilac Thanks for the new thread!! Flowers

collie sounds like you got some bargains! Can you return the sheets?

Ds 1 had a good day at school today. Such a relief, he has some special needs and I was worried sick he would kick off a bit. First day out of the way and I have a meeting to discuss his needs with the teacher on Monday, so feeling much calmer! He's happy too, which is a bonus.
Apart from his fees, which I had put away for a while, it's been a nsd. Although I have a splitting headache and no paracetamol in, so may have to pop out! Hoping I have a rogue lemsip rattling around!

AdoraBell · 27/08/2015 17:22

Thanks for the shiny new thread lilla Thanks

Will update on August then move over.

Whatabout · 27/08/2015 17:27

Pink - no calpol hanging around?

QforCucumber · 27/08/2015 17:30

Can I join you please? At 12 weeks pregnant and working for a comapny which only pays smp the next 6 months with be my most frugal ever.
In the last 6 weeks I have reduced our virgin media package from 67.99 a month to 34.99 a month, changed gas and electricity suppliers and savings 6p a day just on standing charges, need to remortgage end of Sept and hoping to reduce from the 3.9% rate we are on now, and dp's phone can be changed to a sim only contract as of the 10th September. Feel like we are onto a good start.

blueteapot · 27/08/2015 17:50

We need to invest in some flanelette sheets too for the winter (for the whole house argh!)

Ohno I wouldnt annie sloan it wouldnt last I dont think in a kitchen - the doors were solid wood, I took them off, sugar soaped, sanded, primed with zinsser primer, then 2 coats of satinwood paint. Same for the carcasses but no sanding as they were melamine, zinsser primer sticks to anything so it was useful there. Roller no brush, a little bit of sponge for any awkward bits. Worked well but a lot of patience and wine needed lol!

That sneering teenager and mum really got my back up, well done to that lady for acting with a bit more dignity!

I am on mat allowance only this month and next but I did get a 187 tax back which was unexpected and nice!

Girlfriend36 · 27/08/2015 17:51

Hello, thanks for the shiney new September thread! I love Autumn as well Smile

Met my mum for a coffee this arvo, she paid which was kind. They were selling off a few plants and ended up buying two new ones for £3.40 for my pots. They look lovely Smile

Welcome Q yes you are off to a fantastic start.

blueteapot · 27/08/2015 17:51

Ohhelp rather! My short term memory is a sieve

SurlyCue · 27/08/2015 17:56

Can I join please?

Im starting university in september and worried about managing finances.

Have been budgetting using YNAB but not wholeheartedly and really need to tighten up. Its a real eyeopener how much gets frittered in small amounts.

Im hoping back to school ( for all of us) will mean reduced energy costs. Also DC get FSM too. But also i will be travelling 50miles round trip to uni so diesel cost will more than make up for energy and food savings.

Hoping to be able to squeeze in as much work as possible depending on lecture times.

Really need to sit down and make a list/plan.

Pointlessfan · 27/08/2015 18:07

Hi all, thank for shiny September thread!
Just place marking, will read and catch up later.

peppansalt · 27/08/2015 18:16

Found you!

Am fuming - just been charged £48 call out only to be told washing machine is dead. Bloody thing is only 3 years old why didn't I take out extended guarantee?!

My dilemma (given that current one cost £650) is whether I just get a really cheap one and expect it to have short shelf life or spend loads and get 5 year guarantee. Have been looking at John Lewis but does anyone have any experience of buying from Argos??

So bloody don't need this right now Angry

peppansalt · 27/08/2015 18:19

Soz, thanks for new thread Lila!

Whatabout · 27/08/2015 18:21

Peppa can you look on which? For the best buys? I'd be really annoyed that it has only made it three years.

574ejones · 27/08/2015 18:24

Peppa we bought ours from John Lewis - was highly recommended by Which and just over £300 IIRC (JL brand).

£21 dentist
£1.80 parking
£9 top up shop

Thanks for the new thread.

Laska42 · 27/08/2015 18:25

Lila thanks for the new thread
SurlyCue welcome! I recognise your name! 5:2 perhaps? if so i am lapsed dreadfully

To whit, I spent £54 in TKmaxx today (and a bit more online but I wont be keeping it all.) It is a Sad fact, but I have to admit that the summer white Wine has done dreadful things to my waistline, im going away this weekend and need new jeans! , But i found a great fitting pair in TK maxx (and another black pair that are too big now i try them on ), Its rare for me to find jeans that are the right shape for me , slim fitting , but not too slim IYSWIM . I also bought a fab navy top . so am all kitted out for a night out saturday night which hopefully I now wont look like a big blob at

Anyway , the indigo jeans are a tiny bit big and so have ordered a pair the next size down off the website and a couple of pairs of the black ones one of which will hopefully be also in the right size , so at least two pairs will go back . (I aim not to have spent more than the original £54 by the end of it)

TK maxx are also selling packs of great colourful Pringles socks (x3) for £5.99 if anyone is looking for (exciting) xmas pressies early for the males in your life ( it may be a tad boring socks are always good as an extra pressie i feel, well DH likes them ). I bought a couple but may go back tomorrow for another couple of packs

We are off to Brighton for the bank holiday ! seeing old mates , we used to live there until a few years ago .. I gave up Wine last week, as the start of a renewed an effort to lose the podge ( but no doubt will have a glass or two whilst away this weekend Blush)

SHOE WASHING RESULT REPORT!! they survived, dried well and are now non-smelly, still fit and look good as new! ..So I'm sending the replacement ones back ..I think they are a bit big on me anyway ( so that will be £39 back in the account Smile )

SurlyCue · 27/08/2015 18:29

Peppa ive bought from argos. I bought a Bosch logixx which i loved. However the motor went after 6 years and the repairman said he was quite surprsied as In his experience Bosch usually last 12/13+ years. I would loved to have repaced again with a bosch but they were over my budget. Youre talking about £350 upwards. I settled for an indesit at £250 from currys. Not as impressed with it, sometimes it doesnt seem like the wash has been washed! So i have to wash again. Its also very loud when spinning. Not sure if this is any use to you. Hope you get sorted.

SurlyCue · 27/08/2015 18:31

SurlyCue welcome! I recognise your name! 5:2 perhaps?

Thank you! No not 5:2. I have nowhere near the self discipline required for that! Blush
