Just got back from the pub. Dh's boss bought us all chips for dinner and he said he'd out our car through its mot. So pleased as I was worrying about that!

PorcupineNecktie · 05/09/2015 20:41

Unescorted thank you for the words of encouragement! I've just been through a few online calculators and StepChange and am feeling a bit more positive already Smile

Pointless happy birthday! and girlie I hope you feel better soon, migraines are horrible Flowers

Unescorted · 05/09/2015 22:11

Adora - pita bread, do a 65 - 75% saturation (4 parts flour 3 parts water) of plain flour (or 50:50 strong :plain), water, yeast and salt. Mix til flour is all wet and then leave for about 30 minutes. Knead for 5 minutes and leave to rise (double in size - ish). Split dough into ping pong ball size and roll into tight balls. Rest for 15 minoutes. Roll into pita bread shapes. Cook in a really hot oven for 10 minutes.

Do not make them if you don't want to make pita for ever and a day..... there is no going back.

blueteapot · 05/09/2015 22:14

Mm must try those pitta breads!

I am catching up on eat well for less.. dont know why I watch these things as they always make me annoyed! Fruit toast and nutella for breakfast is 'extra prep' lol... make me turn it off!!

blueteapot · 05/09/2015 22:28

Annoyed at myself as today turned into a day in town... I am so bad at this!

New fleecy PJs for both kids 7.50 in primani, DS is growing like a weed so Ive had to start buying him age 4-5 stuff, also saw a nice rugby top reduced at £3 so got that too for his autumn collection.

Joint kids party tomorrow so £13 on some nice books (the works) for gifts and 2 cards (card factory).

Binbags and a few diy bits needed from poundland was a fiver

2.29 on some sterilising wipes for DDs dummies from boots as shes forever slinging them (despite the dummy clip which she yanks off!)

Coffee x2 (!) not sure as DH paid, same with dinner out at local pub

was a lovely day out but pricey and the exact opposite of what I had planned money wise. End of DHs holiday tomorrow so we will be reigning in the spends finally.

Winter prep in full force, we have moved downstairs out of the cold attic conversion, oil ordered and delivered yesterday as it was the cheapest Ive seen in ages, leccy blankie in the wash, lined curtains up in each room, kids fleecy jammies, blankets all sorted out. Need to hunt out the hot water bottles and look into foiling the radiators. We will be cosier this winter! Esp as we have moved into the downstairs rooms which should help a lot. Must order coal / kindling for the fire too

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/09/2015 22:37

Aldi have the brushed cotton bedding in if you need any. My electric blanket says washable but I've never had the balls to wash it.

blueteapot · 05/09/2015 22:54

I wash everything lol, even risky things eg washed a load of dry clean only cushion covers the other day too with no probs! Id definitely wash a lecky blankie with instructions on... to be fair it gets a bit grim and only gets done once a year lol

AdoraBell · 05/09/2015 23:11

Thanks unescorted I'll give that a go in the week.

We had a day in town too. I refused to pay for DD's coffees, we met up in what has become our regular meeting point. Being all grown up they like to go off on their own and as they get pocket money they can buy their own bleeding coffees Grin so, £2.10 for my coffee, £20 getting keys cut, £1 on bread and then £15 on lunch. I did pay for DD's lunch. I'm not that mean Grin

ohhelpohnoitsa · 05/09/2015 23:26

Sympathies to fellow migraine sufferers, I also started with one today but managed to curtail it - hot bath, caffeine and carbs seems to help me if ai catch it in time.

Not much to report except how much money a breadmaker is saving us. I borrowed.it from a friend and it is proving to be very useful. Made pizza dough for lunch and a loaf ready for the morning (normally would pop to the petrol station for a loaf.of gross brear and end up spending more on impulse purchases. I have also made a and frozen homemade pikelets. Does anyone else find this frugalising easier in winter? I know its only just the change to autumn but already I find myself in hoard mode...made stock yesterday from a chicken carcass and havent bothered doing that at all over the summer. My mind has also turned back to ebaying stuff....need a clear out.

kazzaF21 · 06/09/2015 00:57

Hello everyone! Newbie here.

NSD today.

Got to take ds for feet measuring tomorrow. Hoping feet haven't grown. If they have, I have a £10 voucher to put towards cost of shoes from doing online surveys.

If they haven't I plan to buy winter clothes for the kids or save money to book Santa's Grotto in a couple of weeks.

Sold something on E Bay and more to put on!

Pointlessfan · 06/09/2015 07:00

ohhelp I think we def find frugal food easier in winter as stodgy things like potatoes, carrots, parsnips and lentils are much cheaper than things we like to eat in summer like strawberries! We spend more on heating and lighting though. I'm already finding I'm having to put the light on at about 7.45. Unfortunately our living room is at the back of the house and the late afternoon/evening sun in on the front so we often start to feel cold early in winter.

babsmam · 06/09/2015 07:16

Yes it's defo easier in the winter.
Spent £14 on takeout and £3 in the shop next door.
Feeling v sorry for myself as hurt my shoulders by lying funny and while it's fine during the day it's sore when I lie on it meaning I'm stuck in a cycle each day.
Nsd planned , need to go to mullets to collect new tent.

Picolette · 06/09/2015 07:25

Great thread Lila! Can I join?
QforCucumber I gave up on Tescos ages ago, I used to move around a lot and find the Tesco service varies wildly from area to area. Switched to Ocado they are pretty good and amazing variety from basics through to luxury items.
On a tight budget now (maternity leave next year) so might give Aldi & LIDL a try then just top up at Ocado. A lot of ppl have recommended the quality at Aldi & LIDL I just dreading the the switch to supermarket shopping after 6 years of deliveries.

SpottyTeacakes · 06/09/2015 07:45

Grin At mullets babs. Hope hoot shoulder gets better quickly.

Welcome picolette. I occasionally use lidl and in afraid you will be in for a sick compared to the lovely ocado (IMO).

Should be a nsd today. It's 3 degrees here this morning.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/09/2015 08:03

Welcome Picolette. Aldi and Lidl are very quiet in the mornings, if you get some big blue ikea bags off amazon/ebay you can sweep everything into the bags at the till and then just walk out. It's so much easier than packing at the shelf.

If you stop ordering for a few weeks your bound to get lots of discount codes sent to you.

Adora Wibble indeed.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/09/2015 08:04

Spotty Have you had the dw on yet?

Ememem84 · 06/09/2015 08:09

Hoping for nsd today.

Listed some of dhs things on eBay yesterday. Hoping they sell quickly.

Today will be spent defrosting freezer ready for winter big shop and batch cook (probably next week) and maybe a nice walk somewhere.

We're pretty winter ready here. I need a couple of coats (desperate for a smart black wool type one and a new waterproof ski jacket type) but the flat is winter proofed from last year still. Heaters have been foiled. We don't tend to need fleecey bedding but have blankets on standby. Winter duvet is ready and washed (all 14 togs of it Smile)

Collieputthekettleon · 06/09/2015 08:10

Hope everyone feels better today FlowersFlowers migraines are shit.

NSD today. Its clear blue sky today so catching up on the washing to dry outside. DH moved the tumble bumble into the kitchen to help keep us (and the cat) warm when it's on.
Winter bedding is on. Coats & boots are out. Blankets and big jumpers will be washed today. Sausage roast for dinner. BlackBerry picking today too! Grin slipper socks are on.

It's been really chilly here. We're also turning on the lights quite early. Going to bring a floor lamp downstairs to help with that.

Off to the beach to enjoy miles of peace and space in the refreshing breeze. Grin

Loads of slow cooker meals planned for the Autumn! Will put a list up later on to help inspire others Brew

SpottyTeacakes · 06/09/2015 08:17

Yes fluffy! I love it. I've got washing to dry but will it dry outside if it's so cold? It's clear and sunny but chilly.

babsmam · 06/09/2015 08:24

Welcome picolette

Collieputthekettleon · 06/09/2015 08:35

spotty yep it should still dry. If there is a breeze or wind it will help.

Welcome picolette and kazza

Picolette · 06/09/2015 08:35

Thanks Fluffy & Spotty!
Think I might have some IKEA bags lurking somewhere. Great idea!!

Pointlessfan · 06/09/2015 08:36

I'm putting my washing out. Even if it doesn't dry completely at least I won't have soaking wet towels everywhere and it will smell nice!
It's a beautiful day today.
Welcome newcomers. I actually like Lidl, their bakery section is fabulous.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/09/2015 08:43

The spin dryer comes into it's own in the winter. Even if it isn't out there for very long it doesn't take long to finish off on the clothes horse afterwards.

AuditAngel · 06/09/2015 08:43

Morning newbies.

Had sister's wedding yesterday, filled the car, £48 but I can reclaim that. I think I spent about £20 on drinks (DH bought most, I bought a round before he got there -£6.90, and some drinks for the kids later)

On the way home (we walked, but sent the girls home with my mum in the car) we bought some bacon and rolls in Tesco for supper
