This is so sad:

I am posting in the hope that it will encourage more pregnant women to be vaccinated.

@TwoYearsMarried

I am pregnant, I was swayed towards having the vaccine as soon as I was past the 12 week mark. The day of my 12 week scan, I called all recommended numbers to book the vaccine for myself. I had to wait THREE WEEKS for the appointment. I said that I travelled for work into central London, am pregnant etc, can they not find anything sooner. The answer was no and that priority was being given to the booster programme. I waited my turn and am now vaccinated but I must admit I am very bitter about it. Particularly when I was waiting in the vaccination queue and a man, probably mid 50s, came out and told one of the doormen to tap on the window of us car as they'd squeeze his (similar aged) wife in. If the government and NHS are as concerned about pregnant women as they make out then this would absolutely not have happened. I have reservations about the whole thing but this made it ten times worse. The whole thing is a farce !
Oh boo hoo about your 3 week wait. Obviously as you were being told that boosters were being prioritised at the time of your vaccine, you had left it long enough. But then you decided to class yourself as a “PRIORITY”.

Alondra, is that stat right? 20% of all ICU patients are pregnant and unvaccinated? Have you got a source for that as it seems really high to me, not doubting you at all just would like to read about it.

The stats are really awful.

@louleey Would you want a doctor who'd been struck off to treat you or a loved one for something serious and unrelated to Covid? Such as cancer, a heart attack, sepsis. I think most people would find it hard to trust someone who'd been struck off (especially because there's actually a very high threshold for that).

Reallybadidea · 04/01/2022 09:02

Pregnant (or recently pregnant) women aren't 20% of ICU patients. They make up 20% of respiratory ECMO patients, which is essentially the highest level of life support available.

I think more could be done to educate women about pregnancy and the immune system. A lot of pregnant women will consider themselves young and at optimal health. They are frequently told they look 'the picture of health' and are 'glowing' and maybe don't realise they have new vulnerabilities to infection. I say that as someone who was surprised by three nasty infections during my own pregancy.

What many young, healthy women don't realise is that their pregnancy, a fetus growing inside them gaining strengh from their own blood vessels, make them at a higher risk than if they weren't pregnant.

There is plenty of serious literature on the net why pregnant women should be vaccinated. There is also having a good talk to your GP or obstetrician if you are in doubt. But at the end of the day it's a personal choice.

It's sad.
She made her choice and sadly the consequences for her and her family are devastating.

Hopefully her death might lead to others thinking about it. Some are hard line anti vax so it won't penetrate.

Staryflight445 · 04/01/2022 11:44

I do understand, but I have 2 school age children so what am I meant to do exactly? @containsnuts I take all precautions I can but I can’t keep my distance from my own children, one of them picked up covid at school recently and I’m assuming with omicron around this is what will happen again.

I don’t want them at school but unless school closes for everyone I’m stuck worrying about it.

Staryflight445 · 04/01/2022 11:51

I’m not comfortable sending my children to school tomorrow knowing parents cannot access LFTS or book PCRs.
School parents were already sending in symptomatic children without getting them properly tested, the tests we need being unavailable is just another excuse for certain families to send their children in regardless because you know… no tests and 🙄 (not typicsl government listed symptoms).

Such a shit show.

There's only one poster on this thread who's had some of her posts deleted…

As for Robert Malone, he makes grandiose claims to have 'invented' mRNA vaccines when in reality he's one of many, many scientists around the world who have been researching and working in this field. Heck DD2 was conducting original mRNA sequencing in the lab during her Masters earlier this year – sorry, last year! Smile

And at the risk of repeating what @ollyollyoxenfree and others have said, it's frustrating that some sort of equivalence is being given to the few (largely discredited) scientists who are against vaccination and the vast majority who are in favour of it.
