Is anyone NOT getting the vaccine?

760 replies

JC2021 · 20/07/2021 19:53

Anyone on here choosing not to receive the covid-19 vaccine?

I am undecided, but resistant.

My reasons; you can still become infected and spread the virus. How sick you might become would depend on your immunity, your age/health.

So, in my mind the only good the vaccine 'may' do (no guarantees) is prevent you getting very ill. Although, even this is still not guaranteed.

So the vaccine may reduce the change of you becoming really ill.

Fully vaccinated people can still spread the virus unknowingly to others, the same as unvaccinated.

@Wellbythebloodyhell Why do you think people would not think less of those whose irrationality makes things less safe for everyone? Especially when there are very real, tangible negative impacts as a result.

I'm guessing you aren't waiting desperately for the NHS to resume normal treatments and services, aware that each new wave creates further backlog.

treedragon · 20/07/2021 22:31

Two friends of mine have had Covid. One was very ill and now has long Covid and his functioning is very restricted. Another lost her hearing from it and now has to wear aids in both ears.

Yes I am double vaccined and feel it’s the socially responsible thing to do.

I’m unsure why children aren’t being done as they seem to be super spreaders.

Innocenta · 20/07/2021 22:33

@Tiari lol, no one here who has had it seems anxious at all? Talk about projection!

What we are, in many cases, is annoyed by this anti scientific silliness, and upset by the very negative, very real consequences. As a CEV person - acting under direct consultant instruction - I haven't gone anywhere except to hospital since Feb 2020. It sucks. To get back to a safe normality for everyone, we need good uptake of the perfectly safe jab.

Mojitoqueen · 20/07/2021 22:33

What is completely not acceptable is fully vaccinated people calling unvaccinated by choice people stupid, uneducated, selfish etc etc
You either want the vaccination for your personal views and reasons or you don’t for your own personal views and reasons, nobody is selfish for making a medical decision about their own body! It is their body, their choice.
The vaccine is still under trial, some people are more cautious, some are scared.
Bullying people into having the vaccine because that’s what you agree with is fucking shit.

treedragon · 20/07/2021 22:34

It’s a bit like drunk driving. Get your jabs and help save lives. Don’t drink and drive and save lives that way too.

Lysianthus · 20/07/2021 22:34

@Itsprobablynotcominghome

No one should be forced to have it.

Natural selection. It’s not new.

@Itsprobablynotcominghome Beautifully put

@millenialblush

I'm not having it for many reasons, one of the main ones being that I'm not scared of Covid, but I am scared of the vaccine after a close family member had a stroke immediately after receiving it. I don't care what other people do, everyone has a right (or at least I thought they did) to make their own medical decisions based on what is best for them, without being coerced or bullied.
I'm very sorry to hear about your relative, but you do know that people have strokes all the time, don't you? Have you been told by doctors that the vaccine caused the stroke? If not, you really shouldn't be spreading alarmist claims like this.

I also don't understand not being scared of Covid. There's been nothing like this in my lifetime, and I'm 60. It's a serious illness with the potential to cause long-term problems if it doesn't kill you. That scares me far more than a vaccine which has been thoroughly tested.

Emmmie · 20/07/2021 22:34

Oh don't worry....you will soon see this vaccine on the newborn babies' schedule. 3 booster shots per year! Babies and kids are a huge market that needs to be taken advantage of!

Innocenta · 20/07/2021 22:34

@Mojitoqueen It literally is selfish and based on incomprehension of the science. You don't like hearing it because it's true! I'm sure it's uncomfortable to be expected to sit with criticism of your choices, but no one owes you respect for an objectively bad choice.

Innocenta · 20/07/2021 22:36

@ShaneTheThird

Im on the fence. I want to be vaccinated but i have health issues and i have a few concerns, including menstrual cycles being delayed for months afterwards, and the reports on israels data suggesting pfizer in particular is causing an increase in swelling around the heart. Im so on the fence its stressing me out.
What health issues are you concerned about? Overwhelming majority of CV and CEV have had it.
NinDS · 20/07/2021 22:36

@XenoBitch couldn’t agree more. Make the decision for yourself, you don’t need anyone’s authorisation or opinion to justify why you do or don’t want it. It’s everyone’s individual choice and NO ONE should be judged.

uglyflowers · 20/07/2021 22:36

I am 50 and obese. I got my first jab (Pfizer by choice) last Friday. I’d already had COVID and it was so mild that I was very ambivalent about getting a vaccine with potential side effects.
In the end, because I’m an anxious person, I went last Friday. The guy who did the vaccine was lovely. He spends ages explaining why the vaccine on top of my natural antibodies would give me a much better protection from different variants. I got it and haven’t had any side effects at all. I’ll get the other one in eight weeks happily now.

Innocenta · 20/07/2021 22:38

@Emmmie

Some of you are foaming at the mouth and throwing insults as soon as someone mentions that they choose not to have the Covid vaccine. This is pathetic and controlling behaviour. Forced medical treatment is a slippery slope for everyone. The vaccinations ARE being forced, people are being blackmailed to either have the shot or to lose their rights/freedoms. . Anyway, enjoy the endless booster shots! Way to go Pfizer! KA-CHING!
Don't disrespect abuse survivors by comparing justified criticism of ill-educated choices to 'controlling' behaviour. It's glaringly obvious that's what you're implying, and it's quite twisted.

You can choose. Anyone can choose. That doesn't mean anyone else has to respect such a poorly considered and selfish choice. Respect is earned, it isn't something you're entitled to regardless of how you behave.

Gosh yes, how appalling of the government to use our taxes to pay for life-saving vaccinations for babies and children! Much better for them to get TB, whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus, polio, meningitis, mumps, measles and rubella. We won't worry about the ones who die or end up with lifelong disabilities as a result.
Tiari · 20/07/2021 22:39

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair and Innocenta

See what I mean? You are proving my point, defensive and so obviously anxious.

ShaneTheThird · 20/07/2021 22:40

What health issues are you concerned about? Overwhelming majority of CV and CEV have had it.

I have severe hyper mobility and have had an aneurysm and hemorrhages. I know covid can be bad for it but ive heard things like increased risk of heavy menstrual bleeding and swelling around the heart from the jabs. Feels a bit damned if i do damned if i dont.

Xenia · 20/07/2021 22:41

Jesus, not wearing a seat belt is against the law. Not having the covid jab is not. Therefore they are totally different.

Innocenta · 20/07/2021 22:41

Why should no one be judged, @NinDS ? Don't we judge people for poor decision making around their health all the time? Are you an antivaxxer when it comes to all vaccines? I certainly think the majority of us do tend to judge people who neglect their health severely, even if it's not something people talk about a lot. Look at the unkindness around cancers that people are often assumed to have 'caused' themselves.

Bryonyshcmyony · 20/07/2021 22:41

Your choice to not get it.
My choice to think you are a but dim and spend too much time on social media

leafyygreens · 20/07/2021 22:43

@Tiari

loulouljh Thankyou, so good to see someone talking sense.

For all those who are jabbed Flowers

why the flowers @Tiari?
Emmmie · 20/07/2021 22:44

Innocenta, what the hell are you on about?! Who is talking about the abuse victims?! Yes...when someone is being insulted and called names for a choice they make, the person insulting them is trying to control /adjust their behaviour or humiliate them. People on here are calling others stupid for being worried about taking the vaccine. That is abuse and bullying.

Innocenta · 20/07/2021 22:44

One of my consultants is a top EDS specialist and has advised me to continue shielding because of a number of conditions (including EDS), but he was 100% in support of having the jab, and my partner was given it early.

Obviously you don't have to take my word for it! But I highly recommend contacting your lead consultant. There is no known contraindication for hypermobility and at an informal level, people with severe EDS and comorbidities are being advised to shield because of Delta (not only me).

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/07/2021 22:45

She thinks we're all secretly petrified of what we've done to ourselves. Odd. I'm absolutely delighted to be double vaxxed and couldn't be happier that my entire family will soon be in the same position. We're incredibly lucky.

Hallyup6 · 20/07/2021 22:45

My husband refuses. He reckons he's invincible. I just roll my eyes at him and hope that my double jabbed status will keep me going for the kids when it inevitably floors him.

It's not abusive, nor is it bullying, to criticise someone who spreads misinformation about a safe vaccine, or who makes a choice to avoid it based on not understanding the science.

That is not controlling behaviour. It is fully justified criticism.
