Is anyone NOT getting the vaccine?

760 replies

JC2021 · 20/07/2021 19:53

Anyone on here choosing not to receive the covid-19 vaccine?

I am undecided, but resistant.

My reasons; you can still become infected and spread the virus. How sick you might become would depend on your immunity, your age/health.

So, in my mind the only good the vaccine 'may' do (no guarantees) is prevent you getting very ill. Although, even this is still not guaranteed.

So the vaccine may reduce the change of you becoming really ill.

Fully vaccinated people can still spread the virus unknowingly to others, the same as unvaccinated.

@JC2021

I have suffered with blood clots before and required thinning medication
Me too. I still had the vaccine.
@JesusInTheCabbageVan I can link you to a really good article on Facebook by a real car engineer who’ll prove that seat belts are not safe at all. I also know a neighbours, cousin, half uncle who was killed while wearing a seatbelt.
This is satire right?

You know covid can cause clots, right?
Innocenta · 20/07/2021 21:05

@loulouljh Are you this contrarian about other vaccines? Are you vaccinated against tetanus, measles, polio? Are you scared of medicine in general?

Just wondering Hmm

Innocenta · 20/07/2021 21:06

@MrsTerryPratchett Exactly. Covid is by its very nature a vascular illness. Many Covid deaths are as a result of cardiovascular events, but people are scared of the minuscule risk of a jab complication...

ivykaty44 · 20/07/2021 21:09

@JC2021I have suffered with blood clots before and required thinning medication

so all the more reason to get a vaccination against a virus that causes blood clots and many other nasty symtoms that are uncontrollable\with a vaccination, that is controllable and can have a tiny risk of causing blood clots but not all the other nasty symptoms and hour be just keeping an eye out for the one symptom the can be treated rapidly

SonnetForSpring · 20/07/2021 21:11

@Iknowtheanswer

I've just had covid. I am double jabbed. I honestly thought it was a slightly annoying cold.

My colleague, 25 years younger than me has covid. Single jab. She is very very unwell with it.

Repeat with everyone I know. Double jab, get a cold. No jab, or single jab, very unwell.

This.
Lau52 · 20/07/2021 21:14

I am now double dosed. Have blooding clotting disorder and family history of bloods clots. I did have pretty bad anxiety initially, but I didn’t do it to protect myself. This was my way of helping to reduce transmission, after what we have all been through. I also think we are in a very fortunate position to have these vaccines so easily available to us so as a lot people say on mn ‘they just want to get back to normal’. Thankfully we are no longer seeing large death numbers we were prior to roll out

Musmerian · 20/07/2021 21:16

The stupidity makes my head hurt.

Lovinghannah · 20/07/2021 21:16

@loulouljh

I am not having it. All this co-ercion is making me even more sure that my decision is the right one. No come back if it all goes wrong, masses of people with life changing injuries as a result. the vaxxed getting more ill than the unvaxxed. Will be endless boosters etc being pumped into your body. Plenty of reasons to not have it.
No comeback from long covid or death either...
Cheshirewife · 20/07/2021 21:17

Please god, who are these people who can’t understand the statistical difference between (I) the sizeable risks of death or serious long lasting harm due to covid; and (ii) the very very small risk of material complications from the vaccination, which delivers a material reduction in covid risk?

All the stats are publicly available so I actually feel incredibly sad for anyone who can’t understand this. Their education has clearly failed them.

OhDear2200 · 20/07/2021 21:18

@SGChome20

Yes, satire.

Because I trust people who know more about engineering and physics than me. Just as I trust those who know more about vaccines than me.

My dh has an autoimmune disorder that means he gets blood clots if not on thinners. He got vaccinated and is fine. Do what you want but but having had blood clots in the past isn't a reason not to get vaccinated.

OP I'm late 40's and not having it. Dh is 60's and not having it. There are lots of us on twitter xx

MyCatDribbles · 20/07/2021 21:24

I’m undecided. I’m currently recovering from CVST, am 17 weeks pregnant, had a stillbirth last year and a miscarriage in January
I’m definitely have the flu jab and whooping cough jab as they’ve been proved safe in pregnancy
As my obstetrician said, the covid vaccine has not been proven safe in pregnancy…yet. So has left it up to me to decide and understands why if I don’t have it, given everything I’ve gone through and my unique medical history

Exactly this!
Tavannach · 20/07/2021 21:26

An NHS consultant's view

Specifically on vaccines they say this;

While the third wave is clearly under way, things are definitely different this time around. For the equivalent case numbers, hospitalisations are far lower, and people overall are less unwell. Vaccines have made the difference.
Many of our admissions have not been vaccinated, however. Some want to achieve “natural immunity”; it is unclear whether they realise that the only way to do this is to get the disease instead. Another wants “to see some real data”, as if all the information assessed by the regulatory authorities before approval, and the clear real-world data about the reduction in cases, is somehow fabricated. Someone’s friend got some side-effects from the vaccine so she didn’t have it; guess which one of them ended up in hospital.

Innocenta · 20/07/2021 21:26

@user1494055864 scientific illiteracy isn't something to be proud of.

Someday they’ll develop a vaccine against stupidity. Unfortunately those that need it will likely refuse it Grin

Oh-and for those saying I am stupid (the common refrain), I am a barrister. So that probably doesn't make me all that stupid to be honest! Well read, analytical, cynical and a realist!

OP-your decision alone. Everyone different with different views, backgrounds, risks etc.

gamerchick · 20/07/2021 21:31

Only 4 million. I mean pfft, right

In India alone isn't it?

Why yet another thread? Don't have it but don't think you're some sort of special rebel intelligence far superior than anyone else.

XenoBitch · 20/07/2021 21:33

Have the vaccine, don't have the vaccine. The decision is yours alone and you don't need to justify your reason to anyone.
