Is anyone NOT getting the vaccine?

760 replies

JC2021 · 20/07/2021 19:53

Anyone on here choosing not to receive the covid-19 vaccine?

I am undecided, but resistant.

My reasons; you can still become infected and spread the virus. How sick you might become would depend on your immunity, your age/health.

So, in my mind the only good the vaccine 'may' do (no guarantees) is prevent you getting very ill. Although, even this is still not guaranteed.

So the vaccine may reduce the change of you becoming really ill.

Fully vaccinated people can still spread the virus unknowingly to others, the same as unvaccinated.

All I would say is that if you choose not to get it, accept the consequences quietly. Your travel will be limited, your entry to venues will be limited and people will think less of you. Nothing can stop Bojo and his cronies implementing these new laws around covid passports so no whinging if you choose to refuse this vaccine. Its your choice

Isn’t this coercion?

@Sadsiblingatsea

I’m 58 and I’m not taking it. Too many people I know have had severe side effects. One of my neighbours died soon after. Too much risk for a virus that kills so few. Check out the yellow card scheme.
I just met an older lady today who spent ten weeks in hospital with Covid last year and nearly died. Months of convalescence afterwards. Only now getting back to her usual activities.

I know a much younger man, in his early 40s, who is still not back to normal health one year on.

You seem to have focussed on the very rare side effects of the vaccine and decided to ignore the far less rare serious health problems the virus causes. I don't understand this.

Yawn. Biscuit

CrunchyCarrot · 20/07/2021 22:10

I decided not to get it. Firstly I'm a needle phobe. Secondly I have autoimmune disease and have various allergies, and am not convinced the vaccine wouldn't trigger something unwelcome. Thirdly, I've had Covid already (before the vaccines were available) and still have antibodies to it. I had it asymptomatically.

HandlebarLadyTash · 20/07/2021 22:10

If the fear is of having a vaccine that is relatively new and long term side effects.
A covid hospital visit will likely deliver medication with side effects, except at this point you will willing take anything.
Stop overthinking make the decision yes or no & sleep better tonight.

millenialblush · 20/07/2021 22:12

I'm not having it for many reasons, one of the main ones being that I'm not scared of Covid, but I am scared of the vaccine after a close family member had a stroke immediately after receiving it. I don't care what other people do, everyone has a right (or at least I thought they did) to make their own medical decisions based on what is best for them, without being coerced or bullied.

Nope, just part of living in a modern civilised society.

Fleetw00d · 20/07/2021 22:15

I'm breastfeeding so not getting it yet as I'm concerned about the potential for long term side effects to my baby which they simply don't know because it hasn't been long enough. Breastfeeding women were originally advised not to have it and then they changed tack but surely they would have known their reasons initially so that sparks concerns for me. Also some women (small percentage but still worrying, about 7%) reported issues with breastmilk production and baby feeling poorly. I don't know of any other jab that has that effect on breastfeeding mums. Also women have reported changes to their menstrual cycle which again I've not heard about from other jabs.

So all of that is too much of a risk to get it while breastfeeding. However I most likely will get it once I've finished mainly because of all of these restrictions on non vaxxed people but even so I will continue to socially distance, wear a mask and take lateral flow tests twice a week as tbh I think this is a more reliable way to stop it spreading as like you said vaxxed people can still transmit it.

Darbs76 · 20/07/2021 22:16

I chose to take the vaccine. So grateful I did as I’ve got Covid now and it’s horrible, even double jabbed. My 17yr old super fit son is struggling a week on. It makes zero sense to me not to have the vaccines

Tiari · 20/07/2021 22:17

Feel sorry for people who are jabbed and obviously worried sick about their decision to take part in this trial. To the point where they have to keep coming on MN and act so defensively.

You all made the decision to take this risk having no idea of the future consequences, now live with it.
Stop trying to deflect your own anxiety on to sensible people who have decided to wait.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/07/2021 22:18

@loulouljh

I am not having it. All this co-ercion is making me even more sure that my decision is the right one. No come back if it all goes wrong, masses of people with life changing injuries as a result. the vaxxed getting more ill than the unvaxxed. Will be endless boosters etc being pumped into your body. Plenty of reasons to not have it.
Where are your stats to back up your claim that vaccinated people are getting more ill than unvaccinated? You say you're a barrister, so you should know about the importance of evidence.
catwithflowers · 20/07/2021 22:19

@Musmerian

The stupidity makes my head hurt.

Totally 🤷‍♀️

Emmmie · 20/07/2021 22:19

Some of you are foaming at the mouth and throwing insults as soon as someone mentions that they choose not to have the Covid vaccine. This is pathetic and controlling behaviour. Forced medical treatment is a slippery slope for everyone. The vaccinations ARE being forced, people are being blackmailed to either have the shot or to lose their rights/freedoms.
.
Anyway, enjoy the endless booster shots! Way to go Pfizer! KA-CHING!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/07/2021 22:20

@Oysterbabe

It's your choice but your reasons make no sense.
That's a great graphic!
birdglasspen · 20/07/2021 22:20

you are more likely to get a blood clot from having coronavirus than having the vaccine. At least if you have the vaccine you can do your best to monitor any signs of blood clot.

Itsprobablynotcominghome · 20/07/2021 22:21

It’s get it, or get delta. I know what I’d prefer.

You pays your money you takes your choice!

Ahhh the sweet sweet ignorance of someone who isn't worried about chronic illness. Sweet summer child.

"Isn’t this coercion?"

No it's not. It's certainly not the "co-ercion" our super educated barrister speaks of either.

First part of the article:

As in many other hospitals, the number of patients being treated for Covid-19 in Bradford Royal Infirmary is sharply rising. About half of them had chosen not to be vaccinated, says Dr John Wright - which many now deeply regret.

"I was offered the vaccine, but I was arrogant," says Faisal Bashir, a super-fit 54-year-old.

"I was going to the gym, cycling, walking and running. Given that I was strong and healthy I didn't think I needed it. That also meant that if it turned out not to be safe I wouldn't have taken any risks.

"But the truth was that I couldn't avoid the virus. It still got me. I don't know how or where."

Faisal, who was discharged on Wednesday after a week in hospital receiving oxygen, is keen to warn others not to make his mistake.

"What I've experienced in hospital - the care and expertise - humbles me," he says.

"People are filling the hospitals by taking chances and it's wrong. I feel terrible. I feel so bad about it and I hope by speaking out it helps others avoid this."

Itsprobablynotcominghome · 20/07/2021 22:25

No one should be forced to have it.

Natural selection. It’s not new.

Who are you talking about? No one's acting defensively

Shoehorning your agenda on threads where it's not relevant makes you sound a bit deranged tbh

Im on the fence. I want to be vaccinated but i have health issues and i have a few concerns, including menstrual cycles being delayed for months afterwards, and the reports on israels data suggesting pfizer in particular is causing an increase in swelling around the heart. Im so on the fence its stressing me out.

Tiari · 20/07/2021 22:27

Thankyou, so good to see someone talking sense.

For all those who are jabbed Flowers
