What will the mask police do after the 19th

They were first lockdown police but mutated into mask police when lockdown ended. But what will they mutate into now that we are getting rid of all restrictions?

I am afraid some will be left with a gap in their life

And are the poor covid marshals going to lose their jobs? Sad

It will be interesting to see what happens about the masks as I saw a job advert yesterday which was recent about a covid officer for a local council and how they will be enforcing mask wearing. I don't know why they would state this if the government claim they will be scrapped.

@Bazoo23

Cant wait to flash the mask brigade a big toothy grin Grin
How exactly will you identify members of the "mask brigade"?

Grin ooh, that’s a difficult one…Grin

Masks are a good idea anyway. Especially if you live in a city. People in the Far East have understood this for years. Pretty much everyone in Tokyo wears a mask as standard

Having spent my weekends in Tokyo for years not so far in the past, I can say that you are absolutely full of shit. Who told you that?

Me. When I spent a month in Tokyo.

I have often seen people in Tokyo wearing masks. I think they only do it when they are sick, rather than a standard thing for everyone all the time.

Masks range from very effective (excellent masks used in hospital alongside proper hygiene), to the almost useless.

Most of what you see in the supermarket falls in the almost useless bracket.

bendmeoverbackwards · 03/07/2021 09:44

I think mask wearing does provide some protection to the wearer. It’s a physical barrier which prevents droplets being inhaled. Not perfect protection but some is better than nothing.

FrannyHaddock · 03/07/2021 09:46

I think it’s etiquette in Japan and some other countries in that neck of the woods to wear masks on public transport as a courtesy to others if you are unwell.

I’ll still be wearing a mask on buses and the tube in London, as I think it’s a pretty good health/hygiene idea generally, not just for restricting the transmission of covid.

(I’ve never come across ‘the mask police’ in real life).

Lucidas · 03/07/2021 09:50

Newsflash: in the real world, the vast majority of people, including mask wearers, do not belong to one ‘brigade’ or another but just go about their lives making whatever decisions make most sense to them.

Stop shit-stirring and get off the internet.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 03/07/2021 09:59

I used to live in South Korea and yeah, masks are a courtesy to your colleagues if you are unwell, because you do not generally take sick days there, ever, unless you were near death! In my workplace there was no provision for them and it was actually a bit of a badge of honour to go into work and suffer through, it proved to your peers and more importantly bosses how committed and diligent (never heard that word so much before I moved there) you were.

Occasionally people would wear them if the smog was quite bad in the city on that day.

No one wore them every day for no reason as part of their usual outfit! But you did see them worn by various people on a day to day basis.

So that means anyone who wears a mask in a specific context when it's a matter of personal choice can be identified and ridiculed as part of the 'mask brigade'?
TheVampiresWife · 03/07/2021 11:04

As I've said previously, if you're exempt there's a very high chance you will have done in real life and you definitely will have done on MN.

@PennyRoyal you remind me of Ofreds last walking partner in the Handmaids Tale

The 19th won't happen. Schools are closing constantly here, if anything changes on the 19th I'll eat my mask stash.

UsedUpUsername · 03/07/2021 12:48

This is accurate. Don’t let people gaslight us into thinking that people in East Asia regularly wear masks as some sort of precaution. They don’t.

SeeYouInFive · 03/07/2021 14:58

*Oh, a month, did you? Well I spent over five years there and you are either full of shit or exaggerating things. ‘Pretty much everyone’ is simply not true.

People only used to wear masks if they were actively sick or suffered seasonal allergies.*

But it’s accurate to say that pretty much everyone in Tokyo wouldn’t bat an eyelid and wearing a mask.

Why are you being so aggressive? I’m only saying that loads of people in the Far East wear masks. Calling ‘me full of shit’ is just really unpleasant and unnecessary. I’m not saying anything radically offensive or untrue. What the fuck.

Why are you so triggered? You need to chill out.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 03/07/2021 16:53

I lived in Tokyo for a couple of years. Saw people wearing masks on public transport sometimes and was explained to me they had a cold and did not want to pass it on.
It wasn’t everyone, and only on public transport. I worked a a school and never saw one there, or in a shop.

No, you said pretty much everyone wore one as a standard. Which is false.

Others have explained to you that, no, it’s just people who are actively sick or have allergies.

So yeah, you are saying something radically untrue.

SeeYouInFive · 03/07/2021 22:56

You said I was gaslighting people and I was full of shit. You are way over the top aggressive considering my original comment. I’ve no idea why you’re so angry but you’re coming across deranged.

I think anyone who went to Tokyo and claims to have seen what you saw (as a way of shaming Brits, no less!) is full of it.

Guess you don’t like to be called out on it.

BJ is a twat but I'm grudgingly giving him a high five this morning. Also Sajid Javid for acknowledging the huge impact on mental health and the rise in domestic violence caused by the pandemic.

And now I'm going to rinse my mouth out with soap and water for saying nice things about Tories.
