What will the mask police do after the 19th

They were first lockdown police but mutated into mask police when lockdown ended. But what will they mutate into now that we are getting rid of all restrictions?

I am afraid some will be left with a gap in their life

And are the poor covid marshals going to lose their jobs? Sad

@Bazoo23 - ok so we have no idea yet what is going to happen. And events should have taught us not to trust this government's word. And I happen to agree with the poster above that mask wearing as we've seen in SE Asia for years is a good idea. But all that aside I do know people young and old who have terrible anxiety and mental health issues and are genuinely frightened of restrictions being lifted. And when I think that idiots like you will be out and about mocking them, it makes me very very angry. I would say what I really think but I'd get banned. You have no idea what challenges people are facing. Be kind.

Bazoo23 · 02/07/2021 16:21

@luckylavender

Masks aren't getting banned you know. If you or anyone else feel safer with one then wear them.

But anyone obviously judging me for not wearing one will absolutely get a sarcastic smile/grin from me.

"Be kind" goes both ways.

luckylavender · 02/07/2021 16:23

@Bazoo23 - more back peddling

Bazoo23 · 02/07/2021 16:25

@luckylavender

Where? My very first post was that I will be flashing big toothy grins at the judgy mask brigade.

And my last post said the exact same.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 02/07/2021 16:25

We’ve just had a letter from school saying masks are being reintroduced in schools across the city due to the huge rise in numbers in schools.

Masks will still be here. Imagine all those kids trotting off on holiday….

lljkk · 02/07/2021 16:34

"Pretty much everyone in Tokyo wears a mask as standard."

That statement is untrue outside of current pandemic conditions.

KNain · 02/07/2021 16:37

Backofbeyond50
Can't say I have witnessed any mask Police in real life.
The thread is quite goady though.
Agreed. Neither have I. Once they're no longer mandatory in defined places people can make their own choices. I might continue to wear one in crowded places but once it's deemed a matter for individual choice people can do as they like. This all sounds a bit like people who voted for Brexit continuing to moan about remainers several years later.

Totally agree with ilovesooty here. I've never seen any 'mask police' or heard anyone say something to someone not wearing a mask.

Mumsnet is full of head-in-the-sanders who accuse everyone who just gets on with their life/wears their mask/gets their vaccine etc and isn't fucking whinging about it constantly of being some sort of 'mask police' or 'lockdown lover'.

In real life masks/vaccine/covid in general enters very few of my conversations. I talk about normal stuff to people.
I work in a team where we all wear masks, no-one particularly likes them, but no-one constantly moans either. We just accept life isn't always perfect and get on with making the best of it. Obviously once restrictions life we'll stop but I'm sure there won't be some massive 'mask-burning' type ceremony Hmm

As for the garden centre example, I wear mine outside because it genuinely doesn't bother me. I'd only have to put it back on when I go inside. So it's easier just to keep it on.

"Andrew Marr, who has serious health issues, recently contracted a nasty bout of Covid, despite being doubly vaccinated, which kind of proves the need for everyone to continue to be sensible, especially with the Delta variant around." Or, Andrew Marr, a man over 60 who has previously had a stroke, had a breakthrough infection, yes, but with symptoms he described to various news outlets as "like a summer cold". If someone like him is now inconvenienced for a week but not on a ventilator I think that is a pretty good indication vaccines WORK.

ilovesooty · 02/07/2021 16:47
@ilovesooty

It will be a big, happy friendly grin to anyone who looks disapprovingly at my bare face Grin

Hope that helps.
Why would anyone be bothered to look disapprovingly at your bare face? If the restrictions include dropping the mask requirement why should anyone give a fuck about anyone else's choices?

ilovesooty · 02/07/2021 16:48
@Bazoo23 - more back peddling
Yes.

Bazoo23 · 02/07/2021 16:49

@ilovesooty

Indeed. And yet here you are fuming.

Back pedalling...where? My toothy grin still stands Grin

Bazoo23 · 02/07/2021 16:52

Would love to continue but have plans tonight so I will leave you to it.

Before anyone mistakes my absence from the thread as "backpedalling." Baffling.

17 days to go Wink

ilovesooty · 02/07/2021 16:54

I'm not fuming. That's a bit of an assumption.

I'm just a bit tired of your goalpost shifting and puzzled by your apparent belief that anyone should notice you enough to display disapproval of you in a context where individual choice prevails. I imagine you and your choices will be insignificant.

ilovesooty · 02/07/2021 16:55

Well, 17 days to go if any requirement to wear masks is dropped completely. We will have to wait and see.

HelloMissus · 02/07/2021 16:55

Each and every time a restriction is lifted it is greeted with disappointment in certain quarters, whilst the majority grab their opportunity with both hands.
Masks will be the same.

very sensible
Againstmachine · 02/07/2021 18:20

Masks are a good idea anyway. Especially if you live in a city. People in the Far East have understood this for years. Pretty much everyone in Tokyo wears a mask as standard.

Complete untruths, why do people come out with this, it's same people who talk about surgeons wearing mask and can't see difference in environments.

TheVampiresWife · 02/07/2021 18:25

@SeeYouInFive

Masks are a good idea anyway. Especially if you live in a city. People in the Far East have understood this for years. Pretty much everyone in Tokyo wears a mask as standard. It’s hardly a difficult or especially weird thing to do. In fact I’m glad it’s been normalised. Means I don’t have to worry about other people’s gross germs and stinky armpits on the tube when I start commuting again.
As PPs have said this is untrue (albeit for some reason a common misconception).

For many wearing a mask is difficult. And it hasn't been 'normalised' - if it were it wouldn't result in such polarised views and discord.

Sparklingbrook · 02/07/2021 18:37

I assume people that like to police what strangers do in RL will just go back to policing the Tesco car park in case anyone without a child parks in a P&C space, or policing their garden for cat poo and the neighbours for their dodgy parking habits. All the usual stuff that was on AIBU every day before Covid arrived?

I never thought I'd say it but oh, I miss those days Sad

This /always people around who make it their business to hector others. Covid has been s massive gift to them.

Sparklingbrook · 02/07/2021 19:13

Yes, there will always be sticky beaks. AIBU would be tumbleweed otherwise. Grin

lljkk · 02/07/2021 19:19

Andrew Marr blamed his stroke on energetic bout on a rowing machine. This simplistic attribution has been criticised by cardiologists. AM reckons he had had some mini-strokes in preceding year, too.

He's also recovering from kidney cancer.
He's a great interviewer, amazing voice, but not a medical expert.

UsedUpUsername · 02/07/2021 23:47

Well, the rising figures in infections and falling figures in vaccine take up shows that the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers have done their job well

Well, lockdowns and masks have never been up to the job, no matter where in the world they’ve been used.
