What will the mask police do after the 19th

Honey12346 · 01/07/2021 20:42

They were first lockdown police but mutated into mask police when lockdown ended. But what will they mutate into now that we are getting rid of all restrictions?

I am afraid some will be left with a gap in their life

And are the poor covid marshals going to lose their jobs? Sad

They will just have to find something else to moan about. Which I am sure they will manage admirably.

XenoBitch · 02/07/2021 00:51

I would imagine they would still try to police mask wearing anyway, and shriek into the void about a "pandemic still being on", and lots of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should" type speak.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 02/07/2021 00:52

I will continue to wear mine because:
A) my hayfever is much better
B) I can secretly mouth swear words in Tesco’s without people noticing

Backofbeyond50 · 02/07/2021 01:39

Can't say I have witnessed any mask Police in real life.
The thread is quite goady though.

Agreed. Neither have I. Once they're no longer mandatory in defined places people can make their own choices. I might continue to wear one in crowded places but once it's deemed a matter for individual choice people can do as they like. This all sounds a bit like people who voted for Brexit continuing to moan about remainers several years later.

If you have been wearing a mask, you wont have encountered any mask police, self appointed or otherwise. People who are exempt will have a different experience.
Backofbeyond50 · 02/07/2021 03:45

Well I have been out and about and seen plenty of people not wearing masks especially on the Tube. I have never seen anyone approached.

Backofbeyond50 · 02/07/2021 03:47

Incidentally I have relatives who are exempt ( well wear the lanyard to say they are) and they have never been approached either.

Frownette · 02/07/2021 03:57

I hated masks at first bit have got quite used to them now. They make me feel invisible! But I'll still wear them after the 19th and not really mind if others don't. I still expect people to socially distance though. It's obvious social distancing is a good thing in general.

Masks were a godsend today when I went to the shop poorly and they covered me up.

Nat6999 · 02/07/2021 04:00

I've had a letter from ds school this week that as from Monday all pupils have to wear masks in school all the time. It seems wrong that they can make their own rules up when other schools aren't enforcing it.

emlouwat · 02/07/2021 04:05

I was hoping that the masks would stay. If for nothing else than to save me from the stinking breath of others

You're writing this from an extremely entitled, first-world, vaccinated (most likely) position. And it'd clear you don't appreciate it.

PS. Masks will be hanging around for a while.

PS. Masks will be hanging around for a while

Only when people learn mask wearing is one step up from essential oils.

Iquitit · 02/07/2021 04:55

Would imagine I'll be still wearing mine at work for a while to come, and would welcome wearing them when we have outbreaks of flu/noro etc because I do think it makes a difference, especially when you're dealing with someone to do personal care and bodily fluids and they're infected with something airborne and you move on to the next person, protect me too.

I won't be wearing mine when it's no longer required outside of work though, but it wouldn't surprise me if I'm not labelled as selfish and failing in my duty of care if I don't.

EnjoyingTheArmoire · 02/07/2021 05:13

It's funny because I read far more moaning from the anti-mask police, and the head in the sanders who refuse to grasp basic science and epidemiology and instead cling onto random shit spouted on social media Hmm

I suspect if all masks are removed we will have to go back to shielding and not leaving the house at all, as I have a clinically vulnerable child who is yet to be vaccinated and local rates are high already.

I'm sorry if me not being overjoyed by that is inconvenient for you.

JeansShirtJeansJacket · 02/07/2021 05:15

Maybe people will continue to wear them whenever they are ill, to reduce spread to others in crowded places. Lots of other countries have been doing this for years.

MangoSeason · 02/07/2021 05:27

They will hang on to the mask virtue-signalling as long as possible. Expect lots of updated FB profiles, still masked. Now, they won’t be able to control what Joe and Jill Public do, but they will continue to try and control people they know. Therefore, there will be a lot of threads on MN from bewildered people saying that their DD has been invited to a birthday party but the hosts have put on the invite that everyone is to wear masks. Or posts about in-laws demanding that everyone wears masks at family gatherings, even though almost no-one is wearing them anymore. Etc etc. And of course, when this coronavirus dies away like they do, there is always the thrilling possibility that IT MIGHT COME BACK IN A MORE DEADLY AND CONTAGIOUS WAY!!!

GlowGrapeGreen · 02/07/2021 05:48

I went to aGarden centre, two in fact, recently and outdoors, people wore masks. I was pretty astonished, as I’ve not really been to any shops.
Indoors I’d wear one because I have to, outside ? No

I was going to post exactly this. The only posts I see are the goady ones like this, when the anti-mask brigade start slagging off those who wear them and resort to name calling and insults.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 02/07/2021 05:55

@SmidgenofaPigeon

They will probably just make huge overblown passive aggressive displays about the fact they THEY care enough to wear a mask.
I don't wear it bc I care. I wear it bc I don't want to catch it and pass it on to my CEV DS1.
toocold54 · 02/07/2021 06:08

Nasty, goady post. hmm

I'm not 'mask police', I'm just sensible and considerate. If you think we won't ever need the things again, you're deluding yourself. I'm going to continue to use mine in crowded places like busy supermarkets, and in fact a proper cotton, three layer mask worn correctly HAS been proven to reduce viral load to the wearer. If I choose to continue to use one in certain circs, that's up to me and not intended as a judgement on anyone else. I'll therefore be pretty fucked off if someone like the OP takes me to task about it.

I completely agree.
It’s pretty pathetic to create a thread just to start an argument. Especially one that is about something that was made mandatory to wear as it is proven to slow the spread of the virus which mean lockdown restrictions could ease.
I guess some people would rather stay in lockdown forever though.

Cowbells · 02/07/2021 06:25

@amylou8

What are they going to do! I think a new Facebook profile picture frame will do it...I still wear my mask to protect others 🌈❤️NHS
I really hope people who choose to wear masks in public after 19th won't be assumed to be passive aggressive virtue signallers. I hate masks but I'd prefer to wear one if I am coming down with a cold and travelling on public transport. They help stop the spread of lots of diseases like flu and common cold too. They are used in Japan all the time for this and I hope we continue to use them when we need them, and not at all when we don't.

If you're exempt, you probably will have done. If you're exempt and you haven't, congratulations!

It really isn’t Confused social distancing is a terrible thing for most businesses as well as being totally against human nature. You can expect all you like but it won’t get you very far!

motherrunner · 02/07/2021 06:53

I’ve been teaching in a mask since March and will continue to do so next academic year. I went to the cinema last week and wore a mask throughout the screening. It’s become second nature to wear one. I don’t judge people who don’t wear them. I feel safer wearing one. Whether it actually makes a difference who knows, but it makes me feel better wearing one.
