What will the mask police do after the 19th

Honey12346 · 01/07/2021 20:42

They were first lockdown police but mutated into mask police when lockdown ended. But what will they mutate into now that we are getting rid of all restrictions?

I am afraid some will be left with a gap in their life

And are the poor covid marshals going to lose their jobs? Sad

PS. Masks will be hanging around for a while

Only when people learn mask wearing is one step up from essential oils.

This makes no sense from any angle I can think about.

Severe asthmatic here. Wore a mask more than hour last year at work and ended up having an asthma attack with oxygen. Thankfully as I work with lots of outside space I’ve not had to wear one at work unless going inside with others for about 10 minutes or so. I spent 2 hours in a shopping mall last night with my dd and had to take the mask off. Needed additional puffs on my inhaler and not feeling great this morning.

I know I am exempt but I’ve been wearing one because I don’t like drawing attention to my asthma. I don’t want to be seen to be ‘special/different’. I don’t want to wear a lanyard or carry any bits of paper around and I don’t want the stares.

Please god I hope we go back to normal on the 19th. Let everyone be responsible for their own health and precautions. If Mask wearing becomes compulsory I think I will become severely depressed.

Masks do fuck all, apart from make people feel better!

Dartsplayer · 02/07/2021 07:42

@Nat6999

I've had a letter from ds school this week that as from Monday all pupils have to wear masks in school all the time. It seems wrong that they can make their own rules up when other schools aren't enforcing it.
Our school has never stopped wearing them
Northernsoullover · 02/07/2021 07:57

Meanwhile, where I live most people where a mask where required and just get on with their day. The only handwringing I see about it is on here and SM.

Northernsoullover · 02/07/2021 07:57

Wear*

Terhou · 02/07/2021 08:18

I've quite enjoyed the freedom from colds and coughs I've had over the past few months. I'm not in any hurry to ditch my masks.

Jabbinell · 02/07/2021 09:57

Praying for more variants no doubt

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/07/2021 10:06

Anyone who makes any comments to me or around me about me continuing to wear a face mask on public transport because I'm immunosuppressed can do one.

Be fucking grateful you didn't spend much of the previous 18 months shielding and stop being so fucking goady.

TheVampiresWife · 02/07/2021 10:08

Isn't it strange that those who wish to continue to wear masks (crack on, your choice, no judgment from me) are now the ones getting upset because of negative comments? I wonder how many of them have spent the past year berating and vilifying those who cannot wear masks? I certainly recognise a few names here.

Do as you would be done by, eh.

My post mask police plans are to revert to tutting about people who don't wash their hands after using loos.

2020in2020 · 02/07/2021 10:48

Nice. What a lovely person you are.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/07/2021 10:48
@PinkSparklyPussyCat thank you, it's looking optimistic
That's good and I apologise if my original post came across wrong.

2020in2020 · 02/07/2021 10:50

Ugh I was trying to quote @RuleWithAWoodenFoot who suggested people who don’t want to be intimidated into wearing a mask “learn to read”. What a delightful, not at all discriminatory and insulting post.

I’m guessing you don’t work in a job that required masks long before Covid arrived. If they don’t work I wonder why they wear them Hmm

Excellent. I'll be tutting (and starting threads) about those people who stand at the top/bottom of escalators causing pile ups.

But most jobs that required people to wear masks needed proper masks, not a couple of layers of cotton!

People who pick their noses on public transport then grab every strap, pole and seat back when they get off. That's mine.
eileenthecrow · 02/07/2021 11:29

Not sure, but we can definitely see what the anti-maskers will be doing...

QueefofSheena · 02/07/2021 11:39

What an absolutely delightful attitude OP. I’m hopefully out the other side of cancer treatment so I’ve been using hand gel and being careful since before the pandemic. I’ll continue with that and mask wearing. If anyone chooses to give me grief about it I will punch them in the throat.

MrsFrisbyMouse · 02/07/2021 11:48

Actually I think there are certain high risk not properly ventilated places where they will continue to remain useful. Crowded public transport, busy hospital and doctors waiting rooms etc.

My only wish is that it doesn't polarise and divide society.

UsedUpUsername · 02/07/2021 12:36

@toocold54

Nasty, goady post. hmm

I'm not 'mask police', I'm just sensible and considerate. If you think we won't ever need the things again, you're deluding yourself. I'm going to continue to use mine in crowded places like busy supermarkets, and in fact a proper cotton, three layer mask worn correctly HAS been proven to reduce viral load to the wearer. If I choose to continue to use one in certain circs, that's up to me and not intended as a judgement on anyone else. I'll therefore be pretty fucked off if someone like the OP takes me to task about it.

I completely agree.
It’s pretty pathetic to create a thread just to start an argument. Especially one that is about something that was made mandatory to wear as it is proven to slow the spread of the virus which mean lockdown restrictions could ease.
I guess some people would rather stay in lockdown forever though.

Lol it’s not proven at all, and mask mandates haven’t provided better outcomes than places that don’t. No rigorous, real-world study has confirmed they work.

Britain was going to be going in and out of lockdowns whether or not the population wears a piece of porous cloth on their face.

As PP mentioned, I don’t see many people wearing industrial-standard masks that have been properly fitted by a professional.

No one is going to risk their health removing asbestos with surgical masks. Nothing less than a tightly fitting respirator is going to offer protection.

And this for protection against particles magnitudes larger than viruses.

Industrialists understand this better than medical doctors, btw.

wasthataburp · 02/07/2021 12:54

Who are these mask police people you speak of? The only place I hear of stuff like this is on MN. Not in really life! Where you you people live
