So yesterday we got very quick messages for 2nd vaccine 4 weeks after first and a lot of people were saying that's quick...also today school has said they're cancelling all trips too due coronavirus. I guess there's fear it will get a lot worse...honestly think it will be another year or more before things get better...

Meh, out school hasn't had any trips to cancel as none were booked due to covid.

Of course they will bring vaccinations forward if they are able to as being double dosed gives the best protection. Doesnt mean we are locking down again

ohfourfoxache · 17/06/2021 13:30

Can’t see it going back to how it was in March 2020

Restrictions, yes. Full blown lockdown, no

Turquoisesol · 17/06/2021 13:34

I get the impression the media are now preparing us all that we have to live with Covid. Some restrictions such as masks may stay. But I don’t think they will put us back in to lockdown again. Although I think possibly they should do but that’s another thread

Tatum1234 · 17/06/2021 13:36

No I don’t think so. The rate the cases are increasing is actually slowing down, the vaccine is working well so I think we’re going to have to start living with Covid now.

Countrylane · 17/06/2021 13:37

No. This vaccine push is to get over the hump and stay there. Thank fck.

Gothichouse40 · 17/06/2021 13:38

I hope not. Im happy to live with the present restrictions a while longer, if it means we get more people vaccinated and hopefully stop more people becoming ill.

MarcelineMissouri · 17/06/2021 13:39

Nope

Bluebird2021 · 17/06/2021 13:39

if masks are staying then i'm going to become exempt

i work in a very hot store, wearing a mask 9 hours a day. combined with menopause and glasses its causing me some problems now

Wilkolampshade · 17/06/2021 13:40

The vax thing is because full cover has been found to be so SO much better re' Delta variant.
School trips? Some cancelled, some not, depends a bit on where you are in the country and also where the venue for the trip is.
I think this month will be largely about prepping for a 'living with' state of affairs myself. Could be wrong. But will remain hopeful as its so much better that the alternative.
The old maxim of 'hope for the best, plan for the worst' seems appropriate.

crosspelican · 17/06/2021 13:42

I doubt it. We're hitting good rates of vaccinations, although I would b going into secondary schools in hotspots and doing all the kids this week. I don't know why they're not zooming in on the areas with the highest cases in a major, well publicised way.

MaybeCrazy2 · 17/06/2021 13:42

I personally think so. It’s a respiratory disease, they thrive in winter so that’s when I think we will lockdown. Anywhere between November-January.

Pyewackect · 17/06/2021 13:45

I can't see it happening for both political and fiscal reasons but I can envisage local area restrictions and tight control on overseas travel.

RaspberryCoulis · 17/06/2021 13:47

Feel free to have another lockdown.

Obviously I can't break into businesses which have been forced to close down yet again, probably never to reopen - although with clear evidence that vaccinated people are a lot less likely to end up in hospital, there's no justification for that move.

But I won't be stopping seeing people inside the house, or stopping my kids hanging out with their friends again.

partyatthepalace · 17/06/2021 13:53

Oh for God sake, it’s the continuation of low level restrictions, not a full lockdown

It’s awful for people whose businesses are hit, and tough on those with cancelled trips, but it is not a full lockdown.

Don’t be dramatic.

KM38 · 17/06/2021 13:58

@faithfulbird20 Not sure about another full lockdown but I definitely think we’ll be living with restrictions for a good while yet! I certainly won’t be rushing off to book holidays etc anyway!!
Out of interest - what vaccine did you get? I think the 2nd dose of Moderna has to be given 28 days after the first but the others can be about 12 weeks after I think. Don’t quote me on that one though!

Spacecadetagain · 17/06/2021 14:00

I think it’s highly unlikely - possibly more restrictions in winter maybe but I guess the impression we are being primed for a way of life that co exists with the virus tbh

ComtesseDeSpair · 17/06/2021 14:01

Daily hospital admissions haven’t risen significantly (7 day average = 127 on 25 May, 176 on 14 June) and deaths have been below 20 per day for weeks now, even though indoor venues opened and socialising was permitted again almost a month ago. More people are receiving their second vaccine and will be well protected this time next month, virtually all adults over the age of 18 will have some protection by that point also. We didn’t have a spike in cases last summer, without the vaccine, even with a more transmissible variant it would be bonkers to think we’d be in a severely awful situation this year, with them.

ComtesseDeSpair · 17/06/2021 14:03

And despite hospitalisation having increased slightly, patients receiving mechanical ventilation has remained more or less static since early May, with accompanying anecdotal evidence that hospitalised patients are typically much less ill upon hospitalisation.

niceupthedance · 17/06/2021 14:04

No I don't think so.

In London this weekend there are vast walk in get your Pfizer no questions asked events to anyone over 18.

Surely that's preparing us for ending restrictions

Sweak · 17/06/2021 14:04

Aren't bringing vaccinations forward to prevent exactly this, a lockdown ..I don't think it's a sign there will be another lockdown.

We may have to live with some restrictions (maybe masks in mass gatherings?) But I really don't think there will be another lockdown. The gov can't afford furlough for one thing. I think the only way it might happen again is if variants evade vaccines or if there is a new pandemic

Quartz2208 · 17/06/2021 14:07

Actually I think over the past couple of days there has been a shift change in the tabloid press - the Daily Mail and the Sun are both carrying stories that it is slowing and accusing (unfairly) SAGE of using out of date data.

These two plus the Mirror are really pushing for travel to be open up. Even the BBC is showing the link between vaccines in younger people and better outcomes.

Jabs are apparently opening up to the over 18s tomorrow, end September is looking good for all over 18s

Sparklingbrook · 17/06/2021 14:07

We need one continuous thread for this. Titled ‘Coronavirus Doom and Gloom come for a wallow in it’ or something.

chocolateicecream · 17/06/2021 14:08

I fully anticipate another lockdown.

Sweak · 17/06/2021 14:10

@chocolateicecream why?

TheMotherlode · 17/06/2021 14:12

I don’t think so.

I’m not sure how you’ve made the connection between you getting your vaccine sooner and us going into another lockdown. I don’t follow your logic.
