@hedgehogger1

It's WhatsApp really the way government officials should be communicating?
WhatsApp is encrypted so pretty secure. It's used by lots of businesses for sensitive comms in my experience. I'd heard lots of MPs use it too.
the80sweregreat · 16/06/2021 17:14

Didn't Matt H stick up for D C over the whole 'eye test ' / Durham trip fiasco? I know that Priti Patel , Boris Johnson and Michael Gove did.
I am not sure what he hopes to gain though. People will shrug it off etc.

TaraR2020 · 16/06/2021 17:28

Criticism to Boris is water off a ducks back, he's been exposed in every job he's had and nome of it bothers him. Its the Trump style of career management, ignore all criticism, tell them something else and keep going.

Egeegogxmv · 16/06/2021 17:33

WhatsApp is extremely secure (unless you physically lose your phone), but I do wonder as it's work related it would be subject to a FOI request, in theory it should be if its work related. The internal comms messenger is
surely even with a FOI request you cant break the encryption?

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 16/06/2021 17:36

It was clear last year that Cummings was not someone you want to piss off, which is why they all jumped to his defence and licked his arse after Barnard Castle.

He comes across as an absolute cunt, but pretty shrewd with it. Whereas Boris....

'WhatsApp is encrypted so pretty secure. It's used by lots of businesses for sensitive comms in my experience. I'd heard lots of MPs use it too.'

Even so, legally you would think they'd all have to sign non disclosure agreement regarding private conversations. Official minuted meetings are different but this just seems a bit grubby and desperate to post screen shots of WhatsApp chats.

frumpety · 16/06/2021 17:48

I wonder what the endgame is too.

As for those asking who would employ him now, look at what he has achieved, results are the most important thing in some positions.

MarshaBradyo · 16/06/2021 17:54

I thought handing these over was part of the committee hearing

Although he got to choose and that kind of editing is fairly skewed, he’s not going to show those he doesn’t want to in bad light, including himself obvs

user1497787065 · 16/06/2021 17:57

It is not what he is disclosing that bothers me it is the fact that he is. What next? Did he not sign any kind of confidentiality agreement?

MarshaBradyo · 16/06/2021 17:59

It’s the committee. They’ve requested it
RedthroatedCaracara · 16/06/2021 17:59

Reminds me of the pettiness of teenage girls

And boys. Both are equally capable of pettiness as Dom Cummings proves - I bet he was a petty little shit as a teen.

I heard part of Hancock’s bit (interview/hearing? Not sure of the terminology) last week and it was explicitly said that he hadn’t provided anything he was asked to by the deadline decided in his bit. He’s obviously retaining control of the timings of this stuff for a reason imho.
jgw1 · 16/06/2021 18:27

AIBU to think that these photos of messages are a warning to Boris that Cummings is still in charge and he has far more incriminating ones that he could release at any time he might choose to.

I think you are totally right. He has got them all in the palm of his hand.....

I imagine him at home in his lair doing his evil villain laugh MMMWWWWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

lljkk · 16/06/2021 18:30

Pre-empting the inquiry in 2022? Nothing new will come out then.

SueSaid · 16/06/2021 18:33

'It’s the committee. They’ve requested it'

So it should be handed to the committee. These are private conversations it surprises me that legally he can publish them willy nilly on twitter and his blog.

EntitledExtensionBuildingTwits · 16/06/2021 18:33

Everyone of them will eventually be going somewhere warm that does need to be gifted by a Tory donor and where I don't think even Daylesford deliver

MarshaBradyo · 16/06/2021 18:33

Cornetto I didn’t watch that one. So he missed the deadline then released it Confused

I’m not even sure how he can do that, there must be some process that makes it ok to share this stuff. Maybe he can anytime then

Either way he’s more ridiculous if he’s not following process

EntitledExtensionBuildingTwits · 16/06/2021 18:34

does NOT need to be gifted

Although they will doubtless be in good company

It's all encrypted so I do t see why not.

Most businesses use WhatsApp for day to day now

Slingsanderrors · 16/06/2021 18:37

I read a bit of his blog, he’s really not right in the head.

Barbie222 · 16/06/2021 18:39

I'm sure that if he'd handed them to the committee he'd not be allowed to then release them to the media without facing charges. Which route do you think would be the best way to get Boris out? I think I'd have done the same as him tbh

MarshaBradyo · 16/06/2021 18:40

Do these people not sign an NDA

lljkk · 16/06/2021 19:02

IF DC did sign an NDA, what difference would that make?

Would govt actually prosecute him for employment contract violation? I bet not.

MarshaBradyo · 16/06/2021 19:07

What’s the point then of using one?

Anyone could disclose anything
