“My best guess is that risk of blood clots will be added to a leaflet at some point.“

Doesn’t look likely atm. Both UK and EU regulatory authorities have now announced zero evidence of a link, with the incidence of clots in the AZ vaccinated no greater than that in the general population.

Are the deaths in Italy related to the same batch of AZ vaccines which caused the death in Austria?

Baileysforchristmas · 12/03/2021 11:32

I think Italy would be better taking the vaccine than chancing it with the virus

@Violetlavenders it doesn’t look like it from the below article

www.politico.eu/article/eu-countries-halt-oxford-astrazeneca-vaccine-rollout-after-blood-clots/

The batch — ABV5300 — was delivered to 17 European countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, France, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Sweden) and in total comprises one million doses.

While Italy hasn’t received that specific batch, it announced on Thursday that it's pausing the rollout of a different batch — ABV2856.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 12/03/2021 11:35

AZ have said that in one million reviewed case files for vaccinations this hasn't been seen. So not something that has ever flagged up on the radar at all.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 12/03/2021 11:37

Basically I decided a few weeks ago not to listen to France or Italy about anything to do with vaccines

They seem to constantly take a political stance or spout rubbish at every opportunity (To make it clear I am talking about the politicians and not the citizens)

lightand · 12/03/2021 11:38

Bulgaria now suspended AZ

Even with this news in my small town (Lombardia) the mood is still more "I'll take my chances with a vaccine.... if we ever get enough of them".

I'm admittedly rather jaded after the last year, but I'd not bet my life that making AZ look bad, thus dampening the clamour for vaccines and the anger at the slow roll out, is something governments and EU bods would never ever set out to do.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 12/03/2021 11:58

The general statement from UK, European, Canada and other health regulators is that 30 cases reported out of the millions already vaccinated with AZ around the world is way below normal for this.

Most countries are reporting no cases reported and intend to crack on.

If a particular batch is in question there is obviously good reason not to use that until investigated though. This batch was split between 17 countries in Europe

Circumlocutious · 12/03/2021 11:58

0.0006% blood clot chance. At this rate the vaccine should be marketed as an anti-coagulant.

Hope you don't mind but that is such a funny and genius spin on it. I will copy it to the good news thread. Just in case anyone is a little worried by the reporting.

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

Sure, glad it brought some smiles!

alreadytaken · 12/03/2021 19:51

It was a funny comment, made me smile too.

I assume the batch was produced in the EU, strange how many problems AZ seems to have with the EU plant.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 12/03/2021 19:57

Yes they have reported it was made in the EU and only supplied to countries in the EU

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 12/03/2021 19:59

Also AZ have told them yet another delivery will be short because it was coming from international suppliers and now they have hit export controls there

Pigging disaster

My thoughts and sympathy any eu countries straggling with rising corona virus lately we have been in uk where France and Italy are right now and its not fun being on cusp of lockdown with rising cases and rising deaths.

I don't dislike Europeans they as individual are fab so many countries i hope to visit one day.
I have my fingers crossed they get more vaccines soon.
My neighbours are lovely and Bulgarian and visited Bulgaria over Christmas break I was worried they might get stuck over there.

However I feel politicians within the eu are playing politics and maybe they want to dampen down demand for az..
As they not treating moderna or phizer despite them delivering less vaccines than ordered.
In terms Italy feel like history repeating self in sure in past eu installed their preferred priminister who then failed.
Feel like current pm is same choice of eu beurocrats not choice of the people.
Italy is country most like visit.
They must be heavily reliant on tourism in some parts so covid massively damaged their economy.
If they don't want az then give 250k vaccines to Australia they ordered and paid for.
I don't know how az in Europe recovers from this sadly.
They clearly expect other preferred brands to come online soon like janson Johnson and Johnson.

StepOutOfLine · 12/03/2021 21:39

@User594022452

The latest list of countries that have stopped AZ out of caution (no proven link yet) are Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Greece, Lapland, Latvia and Romania.

Italy has recalled one batch of AZ after the deaths of three soldiers.

Germany and Austria are still continuing with AZ as normal.

One 48 year old soldier had a heart attack and died in Italy 24 hours after the vaccine, not three.

There’s no evidence that any batch caused a death in Austria Hmm

Bluenightowl · 12/03/2021 22:28

I will admit to being terrified. I had the AZ this week. My gut said not to and to wait for Pfizer. I wish I hadn’t had it. I waited 12 months, another few months would have been fine. I have a feeling that down the line the AZ will shorten my life.

They are different batches

“In the U.K., more than 11 million doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine have been administered — more than double the number across Europe. The weekly adverse reaction report, updated Thursday, shows there have been three deaths and 45 non-fatal blood clot-related events in the aftermath of getting the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, and one death and 48 non-fatal blood-clot related events after the BioNTech/Pfizer jab.”

Looks like pfizer wouldn’t be so much better ! And if you’re worried about the 0.0006% chances of having a problem blood related with the az ... have you thought that contraception , flying , badly eating , bad lifestyle , not moving enough , etc etc have got more chances of having a problem like this one ? Everyone is saying that there is not enough proof and that day to day life has got more chances of causing blood clots

Bluenightowl · 12/03/2021 23:16

To be perfectly honest, I don’t trust Boris’s counting.
I’m in the EU and wish to goodness I had waited for a different vaccine. I am not going to have the second dose. I will wait for the next annual dose or whatever it is and have a different brand.
