Not proven to be linked to the jab yet, but investigations are ongoing.

It’s not Boris’s counting, it’s the data that is being gathered, nothing to do with Boris. The data coming from Europe is very reassuring too on both vaccines

Veterinari · 13/03/2021 06:30

@Bluenightowl

To be perfectly honest, I don’t trust Boris’s counting. I’m in the EU and wish to goodness I had waited for a different vaccine. I am not going to have the second dose. I will wait for the next annual dose or whatever it is and have a different brand.
Why on earth do you the safety analysis done by the EU medicines agency and Uk MRHA has anything to do with Boris? Confused

This is not a political issue, it's a scientific one and the science is clear. If you've not experienced any adverse reaction to the jab you've had and it has been shown to be safe by multiple research and drug safety agencies, then rejecting the second on the basis of not trusting Boris seems bizarre. The two things are totally unrelated.

And I say that as someone who has also just had the first AZ vaccine

It’s up to you what you do with your body but just as a reminder COVID causes thousands more cases of blood cots comparing to the vaccine. As others have pointed out it’s not even boris. He’s got nothing to do with the vaccine. Or do you think he’s telling EMA what to say? They are the ones saying that the vaccine is safe. Even WHO is saying it. Believe what you want but a shame that you’ve wasted a vaccine that someone else would have loved to have

Do you not think its strange that only AZ is being attacked in the EU?

Easter has shown you the stats from the UK which shows the real data. This is gathered without prejudice. And even then, there is absolutely no proof or suggestion that either vaccine has been the cause.

This is independent of Boris. Most of us brits don't trust Boris but this is nothing to do with Boris.

This is as a result of a Yellow Card scheme we have for reactions to all medications. There is no interference in this by Government.

You would be absolutely idiotic to not get the next dose. I think you need to have a good hard think. Look at the real, undisputed data and not listen to the scarce stories that are rife in the EU as a result of many loose and dangerous words from Politicians.

Ps I say this “ Believe what you want but a shame that you’ve wasted a vaccine that someone else would have loved to have”
As a Spanish person whose parents are in Spain are middle 60s have no clue when they’ll be vaccinated and I wish they were offered any vaccine today.

Sorry to hear that Easter hope they get something soon. We hear snippets about italy/ France and Germany but no one says how well Spain are doing? Have they vaccinated health workers before elderly?
QuentinInQuarantino · 13/03/2021 07:46

The news here (Spain) is reporting how there's no risk with the AZ and pointing to it's successful rollout in Britain as proof.

There were concerns there would be some missed appointments yesterday due to the news but every single person showed up.

I'm due mine (AZ) next week so hoping this stays a non-story here! I'm looking forward to it.

All this clotting talk. One of the biggest antivaxxers on my FB feed recently discovered she had clots in her lungs. She is around 30. How and when they developed? Well all we know is she didn't get them from any vaccine. She's very lucky she sought help when she did.

EasterIssland · 13/03/2021 07:59

All people in care homes are vaccinated. So are first line health workers. They’re vaccinating over 80+ and also police / physio / dentist / teachers now over there. Aztraceneca is approved for below 55 so they’re vaccinating essential workers with it. They were going to aprove az for 55-65 this week but with tje current investigation it’s been stopped. The Austrian affected batch arrived to Spain and has been used and so far no cases of blood clots.

EasterIssland · 13/03/2021 07:59

@QuentinInQuarantino are you in Basque Country ? If so kaixo! (I’m from
There )

QuentinInQuarantino · 13/03/2021 08:04

Egun on @EasterIssland Bai!!! Gipuzkoan.

I'm a teacher, I was supposed to have it this week but there was a glitch registering the NIE on the system so hopefully next... I have a vulnerable family member who is 50 and has been told the policy is changing to prioritise them, rather than wait until his age group comes up, which is excellent news (especially as I definitely don't feel at higher risk than him yet as a teacher get to go first). Hopefully with the approval of the jannsen one it will pick up now and your parents will be soon. Also Euskadi has stopped hoarding second doses of the AZ so I'm optimistic it'll pick up!

EasterIssland · 13/03/2021 08:08

Kaixo ! Gasteiz :)

Yeah I have seeing a few friends with health problems (multiple sclerosis) being vaccinated this week. Hope it all goes well for you

pinkearedcow · 13/03/2021 10:39

I'm really starting to wonder about the reporting around the AZ vaccine. All adverse incidents following any vaccine will be looked at carefully to rule out or rule in a link. The AZ vaccine seems to be getting the most attention, with little given to the others. For example, see the report below, which involves all three vaccines, which doesn't seem to have had the same level of coverage?

pinkearedcow · 13/03/2021 10:44

BTW I am booked in for the vaccine next week and have no worries about it at all. All medicines have some minute level of risk and this is no different.

The AZ jab is being sold at a cost, while other pharmaceutical companies are selling their vaccines for profit.

Every shot of AZ is money lost for a lot of people.

pinkearedcow · 13/03/2021 10:54

I didn't know that Circumlocutious. Thanks.

newstart1234 · 13/03/2021 11:02

Yes it’s telling that the us is not approving a vaccine that will not make money for the pharma industry despite being proven to save lives.

pinkearedcow · 13/03/2021 11:07

I wonder if the governments casting doubt on AZ are getting some sort of kickback. Or is my tinfoil hat getting too tight?

Cookerhood · 13/03/2021 11:09

I don't know if this has already been said, (long thread, may even have done so myself). Someone got struck by lightning after the moderna vaccine. Presumably this hasn't been an issue for people worrying about safety.
( I do think it's right to investigate all possible issues, btw)

Baileysforchristmas · 13/03/2021 11:31

There was an article about Germany wanting to use Pfizer more as there is a profit back to Germany

But EU insiders say a number of countries originally favoured Astra Zeneca as a cheaper option. The Pfizer vaccine was seen as pricey and I'm told a number of member states were suspicious that Germany had an agenda: to make money for the German business BioNtech behind the vaccine.

I think your time foil hat is getting too tight.

In Europe I think its been annoyance that UK is seen to be doing better. And the fact that AZ is an Anglo Swedish company and Oxford is a UK university.

It's also been extreme naivety and incompetence by some as they have not considered the consequences of their words.

They did concentrate on getting the cost price as low as possible for the cost price vaccine!!!! That time would have been better spent working with AZ.

The sad thing is, this is going to cost lives in EU as well as other parts of the world.

TheChineseChicken · 13/03/2021 11:57

The point is, there are millions of people having these vaccines. Things happen to people all the time - they get blood clots, have heart attacks and strokes, develop cancers, have neurological conditions diagnosed. Some of these things will happen within a short window of having a vaccine. Vaccines don’t stop you getting other illnesses. So just because some people have had a blood clot within 10 days of a vaccine it doesn’t mean the vaccine caused it. With a vaccination programme on this global scale this is going to happen often. As the poster above said, we haven’t added getting struck by lightening to the patient information leaflet.

alreadytaken · 13/03/2021 12:51

Your tin foil hat is possibly not getting too tight, although there wouldnt be a direct payment. Political parties usually get most of their funding from a limited number of sources. It's often really difficult information to find because payments can be made in various ways, through holding companies and lobby groups.

France allows loans from private companies, I wonder how many are ever repaid? www.dw.com/en/french-elections-who-finances-the-candidates/a-38704682

Then you get things like this www.dw.com/en/anger-at-german-afds-hidden-campaign-donors/a-38742956

Lourdes12 · 13/03/2021 14:38

This is what AstraZeneca means in Latin

Astra: stars
Ze: gender neutral
Neca: to destroy or put something to death

Lovely name for a vaccine innit
