A 49-year-old Austrian woman diedof ‘severe blood coagulation problems’ after taking the jab, and three more cases of blood clotting issues have been reported in the country.

Not proven to be linked to the jab yet, but investigations are ongoing.

I really hope this isn't true as I have a blood clotting disorder and had the vaccine last week.

Baileysforchristmas · 11/03/2021 12:43

I meant dangerous as in miss information of AZ vaccine

NewLevelsOfTiredness · 11/03/2021 12:59

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

You need to change the title. The use of one particular batch has been suspended. The same batch of around a million doses was split up and sent to some other countries. So they have also temporarily stopped using that batch too.
Nope, here in Denmark it's a complete pause on AZ, not limited to a specific batch.

I'm absolutely sure it'll be in use again in two weeks when they've reviewed it. There's been no issue with AZ acceptance here at all - the cautious nature of the health authorities means they're also well trusted, so I don't see this causing issues going forward.

grapewine · 11/03/2021 13:03

It isn't only DK either. Austria, Luxembourg and the Baltics have suspended as well for now.

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 11/03/2021 13:09

Medical authorities have the right and responsibility to take precautionary actions. They are staffed by scientists who are tasked with looking at the evidence. This is likely to be a short stop while they assess. Yes some people may now get more anxious about the vaccine, but they were probably anxious to begin with; and it's the media reporting and big headlines that cause anxiety, not the suspension itself.

Baileysforchristmas · 11/03/2021 13:22

The infection rate is going up in EU countries, 2 weeks is a long time for the virus to spread, I think I would prefer to take my chances with the vaccine rather than Covid especially if you are vily

Baileysforchristmas · 11/03/2021 13:22

I meant vulnerable

backaftera2yearbreak · 11/03/2021 13:25

I’m getting my vaccine later. I may need to stop reading the news today...

Obviously have more sense than us.

Me too and I had the vaccine three weeks ago. All find, had INR checked yesterday.
pommedeterre · 11/03/2021 13:33

find = fine

HSHorror · 11/03/2021 13:33

Thing is covid causes clots. So if a person is worried about that then the risk from vax is surely much lower than covid itself. And once everyone is vaxxed or sooner even restrictions will be removed and it will whizz around the unvaxxed. So a high chance of catching it.

user1497207191 · 11/03/2021 13:38

@Devlesko

I'd rather they reported than play it down. If it turns out not to be linked no harm done. People are almost fighting for the vaccine here, can't wait for their jab, I wouldn't worry if you are one of these, you'll all be done soon. Side effects, or death, aside.
If it encourages more people to refuse the vaccine, then harm has been done! There's enough mis information and demented anti vaxxers as it is!

The infection rate is NOT going up in Denmark. It's stable and we're down to between 0 and 2 deaths a day for the last while. We have enough Moderna and Pfizer to be getting on with for now. We also have the capacity to catch up to speed on the plan if (I think when to be honest) we resume use of AZ in a couple of weeks.

Whatever is happening elsewhere in the EU regarding surplus stock and vaccine hesitancy has absolutely nothing to do with us.

Absolutely all of this!

grapewine · 11/03/2021 13:50

Bold fail...

nonstopchanging · 11/03/2021 14:13

IMVHO the fact that the 2 adverse events happened at the same clinic is more significant in statistical terms than the fact that they happened with the same batch.

nonstopchanging · 11/03/2021 14:13

So more likely related to clinic-specific factors rather than batch-specific factors.

endofthelinefinally · 11/03/2021 14:20

Association is not causation.
This has to be investigated, but I would be surprised if these clots are related directly to the vaccine.
Blood clots are very common in the population at large. Fewer now that there is more screening and prevention, but they still happen and the risk factors are numerous.
People smoke, take hormones, are overweight, get pregnant. All risk factors for blood clots.

LimitIsUp · 11/03/2021 15:32

There appears to be a sustained smear campaign from the EU regarding AstraZeneca, it really is very tiresome.

There was an article in the Times today reporting that German medics commend 'clever' Russian Sputnik vaccine, and:
"Thomas Mertens, chairman of the German government’s Standing Committee on Vaccination, said Sputnik V might work better than the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine since the first and second doses were carried in slightly different kinds of harmless virus, meaning the immune system may be less likely to blunt the effect of the second jab."

Might work better? So speculation then! But never mind, already sewn yet another seed questioning the relative efficacy of AZ

trhfxbtht · 11/03/2021 16:14

Obviously have more sense than us.

Then why don't you fuck of there with your anti-vaxx conspiracy shine, let us sheeple get our vaccination and get on with our lives, which you detest so much.

FaithfullyYours · 11/03/2021 16:33

Baileysforchristmas · 11/03/2021 16:34

Yes it amazes how EU countries are so keen to have Russian and Chinese vaccine that hasn’t even been signed off by the EMA and yet so quick to judge AZ vaccine as ineffective and unsafe. I know which one i’d rather have.

Baileysforchristmas · 11/03/2021 17:09

5 million people have received AZ vaccine in Europe, 30 have experienced blood clots, the risk is minuscule.
