Now they have brought the Brazil variant with them.

We need to shut all borders to tourists for this year. Only absolute essential travel allowed with hotel quarantine after at travellers cost.

Also they need to have a very-strong sentences to deter others.

Or am I too harsh ?

Shall I remind you that the British variant actually started in kent, uk.?

@EasterIssland and you know this how?

It was first identified in Kent because we have an incredible scientific community that have been constantly monitoring positive tests for genetic variation. There is no evidence that this variation occurred in Kent. But it may have been the first place to see any variation imported from Europe via the tunnel.

BREAKING NEWS
The government has identified the batch of home tests used by the unidentified person who tested positive for the P1 Brazilian variant without giving their details, says the health secretary.

Matt Hancock tells MPs the test has been narrowed down to 379 households in south east England and the government is contacting them all.

So, it's not as some people say that they avoided handing the information when landing in the country

Call me naive, but how hard can it be to trace who this individual is? Surely there’s a paper trail to identify them however they have entered the country?

If not, this surely backs the calls for tighter restrictions and quarantine requirements on re entry?

Apparently there is a trail @Lollipop1234, they are in one of 379 households, see the post above yours; the government are actively searching for them but clearly there was a hope that if they'd called in the search could have gone faster. We do not know if this person came from overseas or just got a PCR test done.

But it's interesting to see how quickly people made (and still are) the assumption that that was the case and how many people think that closing borders to everybody is a panacea.

Whatever happened here lets hope it all will become a bit more clear in the next day or two.

While I don't condone their behaviour, how is this worse than all the other people ignoring the rules?

Some countries are already operating a vaccine passport for instance. It could be the case that hotel quarantine might not be required for those travelling to the Uk having had both vaccinations.

Nothing will ever be enough for the busom hoikers, dee. They want everyone to suffer as much as they believe they have in a misery marathon to the bottom feeder finish line.

Closed borders aren't guaranteed to work. Look at Isle of Man and their latest lockdown.

Absolutely pathetic that the twat in question did not complete the form - and isn't it somebody's job to check it? Also makes (yet another) strong case for us all to carry ID, although in this case you'd expect their passport details to be recorded. I can't believe idiots are still flying around the world at all, how many of these trips are absolutely vital?

And the fact that St Nichola has no authority to close Scotland's border with England because it's part of the United Kingdom.

Absolutely pathetic that people don't read posts explaining clearly that the missing paperwork was for a home PCR test and nothing to do with flight paperwork.

Australia / nz have got hotel quarantines. Auckland is going today I believe into lockdown. So hotel quarantines are not preventing the virus coming into the country.

No, they aren't completely preventing the virus coming into the country, but they are very much minimizing it. Almost every day there are cases in new arrivals, but cases in the community are rare. Auckland is back in lockdown because people who had been contacts of known cases didn't do what they should have done to stop the spread.

That's because pretty much the standard solution to everything since Feb/Mar last year ( if not before Wink)has been to blame anybody arriving from abroad and "just shut the Borders", so much so that many people now don't even look at the problem in question.
