Now they have brought the Brazil variant with them.

We need to shut all borders to tourists for this year. Only absolute essential travel allowed with hotel quarantine after at travellers cost.

Also they need to have a very-strong sentences to deter others.

Or am I too harsh ?

I know two lots of family groups who went overseas (Set of 3 and set of 10 (two households), can't actually remember where now, however they were required to isolate when they came home. Neither lot did, one family receive a phone call to confirm they were in the house and the other received nothing. Not much point in filling in cards really.

The Brazilian variant? Is that the one that makes your pubes fall out but turns you into a brilliant footballer?

A lot of hysteria here about a 'variant' which hasn't yet been shown to pose any greater danger.

It manages to evade the vaccine by samba dancing around it. Apparently.

@Turnedouttoes

I know someone who is planning exactly this at the moment. Was in Brazil (and has been jet setting all over during the last year) and is now swanning around Paris until they can fly back to London without going into quarantine. It takes the absolute piss

If the Paris swanning a round bit is less than ten days then you're right..

if it's a case of swanning" around Paris for greater than ten days, then passing the mandatory Covid test needed to board a flight from Paris to London and on arrival in the UK goes into quarantine at home no piss has been taken..

Mind you they spend too much time swanning around they could yet get locked down in Paris.......

They don't test every sample for the exact variant sequencing, it is only a certain proportion (is it one in ten?).

So the real number of people with the Manaus variant in South Gloucestershire/Bristol and Scotland could actually be very much higher, especially since these individuals have been in the country for 2 weeks now, along with hundreds of people on their connecting flights into the UK.

And is it correct that this area of Bristol/South Glos is also one of the few areas of the country with rising cases?

Report
Brokenrecord3006 · 28/02/2021 20:19

I don't really see the issue. Apparently they flew back to Scotland and self-isolated as instructed and then they got symptoms and tested positive. So they haven't been spreading it around, it shows that the system works. They could have flown for essential reasons.

@VettiyaIruken

3 in Gloucestershire as well I think I read.

Tbh at this point nothing is going to help. It's too late. Too many people don't give a shit. We'd best just learn to live with it and hope for the best.

The Gloucestershire and Scottish cases are said to be unconnected as one lot flew Brazil-Switzerland and the other lot Brazil-France and then on from there to different UK airports (Aberdeen and I'm not sure of the other one)

Numbers are dropping in Bristol quite a lot. 110 now in the city
There thought there was a Bristol variant but they did massive testing and a few cases came out only. Comparing to the kent varían (thousands vs 30)

If they are Scottish going to Scotland then they are hardly tourists, and if they are returning they could easily have left the UK before restriction. You can't exile people by changing the rules.

No, 'we' do not.

Everyone entering the UK from anywhere should quarantine in a hotel for two weeks.
We are an island so should be able to keep it out.

A few do - Wales online reports 51 areas of England with rising cases:
www.walesonline.co.uk/news/uk-news/coronavirus-51-places-england-infection-19932470

The county figures aren't detailed enough though, my county shows a large drop but the post code area right next to my DCs school shows that rates are still increasing Shock

Unfortunately it was to be expected, IcedPurple. I seem to remember we've been here before with the Kent variant, the South African variant, some carry-on about mink and probably others I've forgotten, and yet still the world keeps turning and the vaccines continue apace

I realise it's useful for the scientists - "world beating" even - but given the media's inevitable reactions I sometimes almost wish ours would stop broadcasting everything they find

St Nichola is miffed she has no power to close the border because we are still part of the UK. Wait till you see how much the economy gets miffed for fucking the entire thing over this.

So they went through England. It's permitted and should and always will be because Scotland is part of the United Kingdom.

This nonsense needs to stop!

People travel for all sorts of reasons, it is not a fucking crime to repatriate, nor should people be punished for doing so with fewer rights than fucking criminals in prison over a virus that 90%+ survive and I say that as someone whose father died from it.

@Brokenrecord3006 yes they self isolated but the concern surely is what happened to the other passengers unaware of this and not quarantining because they were flying from one UK airport to another?

@Furgggggg12

Depends why they flew. Essential workers, etc, fine.

Twats on holiday, not so much.

Captain Tom went on holiday to Barbados over Christmas...

Don't even go there - I'm only waiting for someone to suggest rebuilding Hadrians' Wall Wink

And thanks for the reminder about the Bristol variant, EasterIssland; I knew there was one I'd forgotten!!

Bristol variant is not in the Bristol news anymore after the massive testing. Think it wasn’t as dangerous as what they thought
