I'll be watching the announcement on 22nd with pen and paper. My selfish reasons are:

Mam of a 9 year old so obviously invested in schools return plans

GCSE teacher in a college so very invested in the exams farce

Our lateral flow testing plan is already a farce so hoping for more than 'test them if you can'

Meant to be getting married in July (postponed from last summer) so wondering about that too - although already accepted that we'll not be having the wedding piss up we planned

Are you watching for general reasons or specifics?

OP posts:
Beaniecats · 21/02/2021 10:35

As I doubt little will change I wont be watching

Lubiluxe · 21/02/2021 10:43

I want to travel to visit my niece.

OrangeBananaFish · 21/02/2021 10:43

I won't be watching, but will find out later via mumsnet the basics then will read up later.

However, my selfish reasons for (not) watching are:

Outside activities. Rule of 6 for example. When can I meet up and run in a small group? When will running club and outdoor bootcamp be likely to be back?

Driving. Will DH be able to take his theory test in April (he originally had his first booked in April 2020 which was cancelled) and when can he start his lessons again? We need him to drive to make our work situation easier.

GCSE. Yr 11 DS. Would like to know what is going to happen this year for obvious reasons.

Not as important for me, but I'd also like to know about non-essential shops and when I might be able to stay over at my parents again. They only live just over an hours drive away so garden visits are OK (if rule of 6 is allowed), but do like to stay overnight too.

I want the gyms to reopen for my boys

MajesticWhine · 21/02/2021 10:46

I won't watch. I will wait for a news summary. But I care about schools going back, seeing my mum and playing tennis.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 21/02/2021 10:46

I'll be watching with interest. I hope Whitty is there, he's my favourite Grin

For me I'm interested in schools going back. I'm worried they'll go back too early. In relation to that I'm shielding do any news on that although the latest letter says they won't update until mid March so I'm wondering how schools going back will fit in with that.

I'd also like to know if we are on track for a normal Summer so we can look forward to something.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 21/02/2021 10:47

Pen and paper? Do we need to take notes, will there be a test? Grin

I'm interested in school plans but after nearly a year I have a adopted a wait and see attitude to everything else

chipsandpeas · 21/02/2021 10:48

pub opening and holidays for me

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 21/02/2021 10:48

You wont need to wait, we'll know what the plans are before the evening press conference, they are being announced in the Commons hours before the briefing.
Workyticket · 21/02/2021 10:48

I couldn't not watch and know that me various group chats will be going off at the same time.

They will open things up, people will go abroad on holiday as it's their 'right', bring covid back with them in time for the kids to spread it about when they go back to school in September. Cue another lockdown.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 21/02/2021 10:50

I want to know.

Schools.
When kids indoor sports will return. My daughter's really missed her chance at competitive in her sport this last year and physically needs the exercise.

When I can, wih my kids, see a friend with their kids for a walk... I've missed people.

Seiss payments ( not til 3rd march)

And for wider family what will happen longer term for those involved in events the WeMakeEvents group that have missed out.

Workyticket · 21/02/2021 10:51

Pen and paper? Do we need to take notes, will there be a test?

I'm a teacher - I bloody love a notebook Blush

I will watch in desperation for some mention of international travel. My parents live abroad. I havent been home in nearly 2 years. My family havent met my 3 month old. No doubt the focus will be when people can go on holidays to Greece 🙄

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 21/02/2021 10:52

And when they will consider it safe to open theme parks. Its one child's special interest and although I know it wont be now we only have so long left on our pass so want to know if we will get to use it.

Im aware this is conpletely secondary to peoples health and financial concerns but its a big thing in our house. Theme parks and zoos etc are mainly outdoors so I cant guess when!

AmySosa · 21/02/2021 10:53

I work in a restaurant.

I want my kids back at school/college

I want to see my mum.

I have a holiday booked in July, moved from last July, booked a year before that.

But I don’t want to do all that if it means lockdown 4 by the end of the year. I can’t go on like this.

ThursdayLastWeek · 21/02/2021 10:53

I need my kids to not be in my house all the time.

TheABC · 21/02/2021 10:53

The big one for me is schools. Then being able to see my parents again, see friends (even outside) and resume sports clubs. I would like to see a realistic roadmap to opening up the economy, especially as every adult in the UK is expected to have the vaccine by July.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 21/02/2021 10:53

@chipsandpeas

pub opening and holidays for me
Me too.
OrangeBananaFish · 21/02/2021 10:54

If it's not in the papers before too. "Johnson will say X, Johnson is expected to say Y". Obviously will be confirmed later on, but I reckon tomorrows papers might have some info too (more than just the speculation that they have been doing)

IceGrass · 21/02/2021 10:55

Self catering, allowed to travel for exercise/day trips and meeting up outside in private gardens would be a win for me.

pinkpixie83 · 21/02/2021 10:56

Mainly the schools, my kids and me desperately need that now.

I'd like an idea of when I might be expected to go back to the office.

The main one selfishly is being able to meet people and going further for walks, as a single parent I need this.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/02/2021 10:56

I want everything back. I know it will be a while though! I probably won't watch.

StColumbofNavron · 21/02/2021 10:57

Kids sports - that’s the most important for me.

Schools - mine have been happy and managing, but for all kids I think it’s important.

Having our family hybrid British/middle eastern Christmas dinner.

For myself: the ability to sit with someone. I don’t care if it’s a restaurant, pub or cafe.

Theatre - this is my selfish and not totally essential biggest want, but I know it is unlikely to be in this first wave of openings and I want to be able to pick from lots of shows and I know that will be a while yet.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/02/2021 10:57

I will be hoping they DON'T open the schools as none of the teachers are vaccinated and one died a few months ago Sad

Vaccinate the teachers/support staff before they send them back please

We ALL KNOW that 1500 teenagers touching everything is a vector for transmission Hmm - it's been obvious since the start
