Mam of a 9 year old so obviously invested in schools return plans

GCSE teacher in a college so very invested in the exams farce

Our lateral flow testing plan is already a farce so hoping for more than 'test them if you can'

Meant to be getting married in July (postponed from last summer) so wondering about that too - although already accepted that we'll not be having the wedding piss up we planned

Are you watching for general reasons or specifics?

OP posts:
TillyTopper · 21/02/2021 12:39

I won't be watching, I'm sure the news will trickle through, but I'd like to be able to sit in and have a coffee and go swimming in my local pool. I'm not looking forward to my 2+ hour a day commute, but feel it's important to go back to the office as it's not easy for new comers to successfully join otherwise (e.g. grad schemes etc).

that1970shouse · 21/02/2021 12:39

My purely selfish reasons are:

Will the Euros go ahead in June/July and will fans be allowed in?

When will I be able to attend in person workshops for my hobby; I'm sick of online ones.

Holidays both UK and foreign.

Pubs - fed up of DH being at home all the time, will be glad when he can go out to talk rubbish with his mates down the pub.

0blio · 21/02/2021 12:39

I can't wait to see my adult children and grandchildren, it's been over a year Sad

And I need a haircut!

SmudgeButt · 21/02/2021 12:41

I love correcting the lies they tell.

"one third of all adults have now been vaccinated!"

No - probably more like 1/3 of all adults in the UK (aka people above the age of 21? 25? 30?) have been invited to have their first jab. But in our area just 20% (aka 1/5) of the population has been invited so the distribution is still massively uneven.

LEELULUMPKIN · 21/02/2021 12:43

Well my DS 15 is going back to his SEN school full time tomorrow so I am waiting on airbnb, short break, hotels, cottages opening up.

dreamingofsun · 21/02/2021 12:44
  1. i want to see my son who lives in another city in the uk - only seen for 2 hours in last year+
2, family want to see IL's who they havent seen for over a year as live in another area of UK
  1. Will our UK holiday go ahead and our European one later this year? We've just stopped working and we had planned to be travelling extensively doing interesting things
  2. Day to day social things - pubs, restaurants, volunteering, fitness classes, walking in other locations locally and not just our town
Figgygal · 21/02/2021 12:48

Schools
Have written off Easter for any chance of getting away but would be interested in May bank holiday and a half term my parents live on the other side of the country it requires a flight due to my children being incapable of driving that far we haven’t seen them since Christmas 2019 as they’re in Scotland trying to understand whether they can visit or we can go there as obviously it will require overnight stays

ChairinSage · 21/02/2021 12:49

Hospitality reopening so I can go back to work - the restaurant trade is part of a massive supply chain, there are so many livelihoods resting on it reopening.
Schools going back. Is my DD going to get face to face teaching for her A levels? She missed so much through "burst bubble" crap in the only term she was in school.
Non essential retail opening. Again, massive supply chains reliant in this.

VaVaGloom · 21/02/2021 12:49

Well last year in March we had Johnson telling us that he was confident that we would have sent Coronavirus packing by spring 2020 🤦‍♀️

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/11/in-12-weeks-we-can-turn-the-tide-now-we-can-ask-was-pm-right

Let’s hope he has learnt that Covid cannot be controlled by blind optimism alone! This year we have vaccines, international quarantine, data on what impact opening sectors made last time so a much better scenario for easing out of lockdown.

No eat out to help out subsiding McDonalds with taxpayers money this time please!

Eaumyword · 21/02/2021 12:50

A cautious re-opening of schools.
I'm a nearly 50yr old School Sec and have worked through. I just hope they don't forget that pretty much all staff have contact with other staff and pupils, it's not just teachers.
GCSE clarity as I have a Yr 11 DS. It's only nearly March after all Hmm
I would have put an all adult population vaccination deadline in, but saw Matt Hancock was clear about that this morning. Thank god as I was worried that they might bow to WTO/WTO pressure to donate vaccines after age 50+ groups had been done. Donating surplus after every adult has been offered their vaccines, yes of course.

Eaumyword · 21/02/2021 12:52

Sorry, meant to put WHO/WTO!

AnneElliott · 21/02/2021 12:54

I want outdoor stuff to be permitted so I can go back to running beavers face to face.
I also have a year 10 DS so keen to know about schools going back and exams etc.
I'm also keen to see family again so hoping more meeting outside is allowed.
Also hoping to visit friends in the May half term (we'd not stay with them) so keen to know if that's going to be do able.

KnitFastDieWarm · 21/02/2021 12:55

SCHOOLS SCHOOLS SCHOOLS
ahem...Grin I’d quite like my five year old to go back.

otherwise - feasibility of trips to scotland at easter as we’ve not seen in laws in over a year.

everything else i can take or leave at the moment, but will of course be thrilled when it happens!

iwishiwasatcentralperk · 21/02/2021 12:57

I will be watching to see if

  1. when pubs and shops will reopen, I doubt it will be immediately so will then spend the evening doing furlough claims for my clients.
  1. Will holiday parks be open for Easter? (I hope not as I just want my money back now from my rearranged 2020 Easter break).
  1. Will schools go back on 8th? - I am supposed to be shielding until 31 March, so that makes it harder if DC has to go back to school.
  1. Confirmation that JRS is extended to September. and any other financial announcements as it affects my clients
year5teacher · 21/02/2021 12:59

My selfish reason, purely not at all thinking about transmission etc, is I WANT MY OWN CLASS BACK. I’m in full time, teaching around half a class at this point and I have children from other classes with behaviour needs, and basically zero support. I’ve done a great job if I say so myself, especially since I am an NQT, but I am DONE with being sworn at and breaking up fights, and want my lovely, easy class back. Grin Last term was the hardest term ever, including my years as a TA and my PGCE. It has actually made me dislike my job at times.
I am also worried about some children at home and want them back in.

If primaries open in full on the 8th I will be happy because of all that, but I will be worried that it’ll prolong us getting out of this once and for all. As ever I remain not that worried about the prospect of getting covid myself, but my DP has asthma.

PickAChew · 21/02/2021 12:59

No need to take notes. The detail will be published online.

maddiemookins16mum · 21/02/2021 13:00

I’ll just wait for the numerous repeated threads on here with 99% still moaning about something because it doesn’t suit their particular set of circumstances with a 50/50 split on sending the wains back to School in two weeks.

DieZensur · 21/02/2021 13:02

I want schools and universities to return now, this minute. Failing that, as soon as possible.

I also want mass events to take place asap, otherwise I will have another year of no income. Try that one a barrel of laughs, lockdown lovers.

I know the second one won't be announced, but I hope the first one is.

NailsNeedDoing · 21/02/2021 13:02

I work in a school so I do care about them, but I dont think they should be the priority. I want to know what’s going on for university students, driving tests for my dc and holidays and hospitality.

gingercat02 · 21/02/2021 13:03

Schools! All of them on 8 March. I can live with pretty much everything else. DH wants to be able to see his Mum we haven't seen her since FiL funeral 18 months ago

Karmatime · 21/02/2021 13:04

The most immediate things for me are:
see my elderly, vaccinated parents who live 3 hours away.
get my disastrous hair cut and coloured.
I’d also like to get an idea of events and weddings, not really holding out much hope but DP is a self employed musician and hasn’t worked or had any support for nearly a year.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/02/2021 13:06

I'm hoping dd can go back to university and that we can travel out of the area to walk with a member of my family. I'd like to see a different set of mud!

ilovesooty · 21/02/2021 13:06

I believe it's scheduled for 7pm. I'm working and I don't watch the buffoon any more anyway.
I think all pupils returning without mitigating measures is reckless and irresponsible.
As far as my own selfish priorities go they are my booked holidays and the hairdresser.

Lampzade · 21/02/2021 13:08

Schools
My eyebrows need threading

DareIask · 21/02/2021 13:08

Purely selfishly...

Travel, pubs, meeting friends and family.
