Mam of a 9 year old so obviously invested in schools return plans

GCSE teacher in a college so very invested in the exams farce

Our lateral flow testing plan is already a farce so hoping for more than 'test them if you can'

Meant to be getting married in July (postponed from last summer) so wondering about that too - although already accepted that we'll not be having the wedding piss up we planned

Are you watching for general reasons or specifics?

Makes little difference to me. The main thing I want to do is to see my parents, but can't because it's banned at the moment. If everything opens up again, I still won't be able to see them because I'll be back teaching on a university campus and can't risk passing Covid on to them.

duckme · 21/02/2021 11:49

I work in a school and it has honestly been a godsend that I've been able to leave the house a couple of times a week to go to school. I can't wait for them to reopen. It makes perfect sense to get all school staff vaccinated, I hope that will be announced. It should help quash the fears and worries of many school staff.

I want to at least know when UK holidays will be allowed (international travel would be amazing but let's not get carried away Wink).

I would also like theme parks and zoos to reopen. They're predominantly outdoors anyway and it'd be something to do that's not a bloody walk.

I want swimming pools to open. My son tries to swim in the bath at the moment.

I want restaurants to reopen. And shops. I don't mind having to wear a mask, but I'd love to be able to go shopping and not have to queue to get in. It takes all the fun out of it!

StrangerHereMyself · 21/02/2021 11:51

I’m curious about non-essential shops, but what I mostly want to know about is non-essential travel outside our area and self-catering holidays. That will enable us to book a cottage for a couple of nights to go and visit DH’s vulnerable parents, and also go and see the cities where DD has applied for university sight unseen.

I also want to know when the requirement to have a legal excuse to leave the house will be dropped, and I’ll be free to decide that I want to jump on a tube and have a picnic in St James’ Park or wherever. Not essential but I want to know.

DH and I should have some level of vaccine protection by early May at which point I’d feel more relaxed about trips by train etc, as long as the case numbers have fallen to the levels of last summer/autumn.

Heyahun · 21/02/2021 11:51

Tbh is just leave it if I was you! It won’t make your life any better watching it.

I feel much happier since I stopped watching the news 3 weeks ago and never watch any update!

I’m just gonna wait it out at this stage - it’s absolutely pointless these updates right now.

VaVaGloom · 21/02/2021 11:51

For me essential areas are family, education & friends:

  1. Haven’t seen my Mum since September (different areas of England) she had the vaccine a month ago when can I see her?!

  2. When can both DC (primary and secondary) return to school? Secondary DC coping /keeping up. Primary DC not coping well. My work is suffering and all stressed, half term has been a relief! What are they going to implement to help schools reopen and remain open?

  3. When can primary aged DC see a friend outside within the law? Not old enough to go out alone one on one.

4)when can we as s household meet up with another whole household for a walk

  1. when can we book a day out at a zoo/museum/safari park?
Standrewsschool · 21/02/2021 11:52

Looking forward to being able to travel a bit further to go for walks. We’ve exhausted the local walks.

Happymum12345 · 21/02/2021 11:52

Whatever is said tomorrow, good or bad, may change again as soon as numbers increase again.

WhenSheWasBad · 21/02/2021 11:54

I’ll be watching hoping there are some actual safety measures in schools.

It looks like they are definitely sending all pupils back. I think it’s too soon.

The kids are unvaccinated, teachers are mostly unvaccinated and the parents are mostly unvaccinated. Something needs to be done to try and reduce the spread.

VaVaGloom · 21/02/2021 11:55
  1. oh yes swimming pools - all our local outdoor swimming pools /splash parks stayed closed last year - let them know in good time that they can open this summer!
Covidcorvid · 21/02/2021 11:55

What time is it scheduled for?

GCAcademic · 21/02/2021 11:56

@Covidcorvid

What time is it scheduled for?
No idea. But judging by previous announcements, it will be leaked to the Times or Robert Peston tonight.
ChikiTIKI · 21/02/2021 11:58

I lost interest long ago so won't be watching. Is there something special about the 22nd? I'm sure whatever important announcements there are will be "leaked to the press" in advance anyway.

NotSorry · 21/02/2021 11:59

gyms – so I can get back to work

schools – so that my year 13 student can get some f2f in his final few months at 6th forms

Miseryl · 21/02/2021 12:00

The only thing I really care about is getting my Year 10 DS back to school as soon as possible. It would be good if he could train & play football again but that's secondary.

JM10 · 21/02/2021 12:01

I'd like to know when children's sports can go back, when schools can go back - I'd like to think that is soon, though maybe on a rota basis, when I'll be allowed to travel for exercise. I love walking on the hills and swimming in the sea and really miss it.

I'd love for the sake of my youngest DD to be able to.meet up with more than one person outside.

Mumof2bears · 21/02/2021 12:02

We're most interested in:

  • primary schools going back (fortunately DC have key worker places but are missing their friends),
  • offices being allowed/encouraged to reopen (DH is able to go back but I've been WFH since last March)
  • are we allowed to meet other people,
  • will they lift the restriction on only exercising in our local area
  • whether UK self catering holidays with two households will be permitted this summer. I suspect they won't be making a decision on this for another 2 or 3 months though.
Toottootdrivers · 21/02/2021 12:05

Toddler groups reopening and seeing family are my priorities.

Although going out for a meal and going on holiday would also be nice. I have a UK holiday booked for 12th April and somehow I can't see it happening 😕

EscapedfromGN · 21/02/2021 12:05

@Ifailed

They will open things up, people will go abroad on holiday as it's their 'right', bring covid back with them in time for the kids to spread it about when they go back to school in September. Cue another lockdown.
This is really worrying me. I fully understand that people will want to travel to see family. I want to go and see mine for the first time since October. The need/desire for a foreign holiday is not important IMO. I know others will disagree.

I'm interested in schools because I want my DGC back to school. They are all still pre school and primary and I think their parents are doing a good job but they need to be with friends. I would be really worried if I had DC in secondary/exam years/just starting university/looking for first jobs.

Will I be able to meet up with my DGC and AC. It's been almost a year since we all got together and the cousins could play together. I think if it's ok or a single grandparent to be with their family why not a grandma and grandad together. We will all have been vaccinated soon and many of us have not been out for months.

Also I have adult DC who live alone and are key workers. They go to work (long hours and shifts) and then go home. No social life for them. They can only chat with us at the front door if they are passing. I know they are fed up too.

mumboss1984 · 21/02/2021 12:06

Schools and seeing family.

WeAllHaveWings · 21/02/2021 12:07

We all want and need everything back, but it is too early to start making announcements about non essential indoor events/activities and holidays, so I think the optimistic among us looking for future firm dates on those will be sorely disappointed.

I will be looking for -

Any information on Schools/Uni/Colleges - especially exam years and a clearer picture for students coming up for exams.

Now the weather is improving (a tropical 10 degrees here today!) I would love to see more flexibility again for outdoor meet ups/sport especially for children and teens.

redfairylights · 21/02/2021 12:08

Travel - it's over a year now since I saw my mum and since my DCs saw their grandma (and we're all in the UK)

Schools - I'm worried they will open too soon. I have a health condition and really don't want my secondary school DCs mixing in their bubble of 300+ kids with lateral flow tests as the only means of controlling spread.

BluebirdHill · 21/02/2021 12:08

@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun

Timings:

3pm in parliament
7pm press conference

Thanks @SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun. Will have to try and keep a sneaky eye on my phone from 3pm during meeting, but I'll be sat down for the 7pm press conference.
redfairylights · 21/02/2021 12:09

Oh - and outdoor meet ups. I wouldn't mind schools not going back if my kids could meet up with their friends outdoors more regularly

Abracadabra12345 · 21/02/2021 12:09

@chipsandpeas

pub opening and holidays for me
And me. Short UK breaks
Howmanysleepsnow · 21/02/2021 12:10

When will non-essential retail reopen (and can DH’s shop survive that long?)
When can I go somewhere nicer for a walk?
