Mam of a 9 year old so obviously invested in schools return plans

GCSE teacher in a college so very invested in the exams farce

Our lateral flow testing plan is already a farce so hoping for more than 'test them if you can'

Meant to be getting married in July (postponed from last summer) so wondering about that too - although already accepted that we'll not be having the wedding piss up we planned

Are you watching for general reasons or specifics?

Definitely watching for any news on schools opening, and outdoor sports for myself and my dcs...also hoping on a bit of info on when we will be able to visit in-laws 2 hour drive away. My family is in Europe so not holding my breath for that.
And I’d also love to be able to go away for a few days during the Easter hols...but news on that might be at a later stage.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/02/2021 10:58

But open gyms/hairdressers/non essential shops - that's all much cleaner and safer - and in the case of non essential shops is basically one in/one out

SonnetForSpring · 21/02/2021 10:58

I would like primary schools back. I would also like to be able to meet up outdoors and have more outdoor venues open. Plus outdoor lessons/sports. I really think people need some normality and outdoors seems like a good option in terms of risk.

Eileen101 · 21/02/2021 10:59

My selfish reasons are that I want us to be able to see family and at least go for walks.

I'd love it if people were suddenly able to book holidays abroad, purely as it would help secure DHs industry.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/02/2021 11:00

I won't believe anything until I read it on gov.uk because whatever is said during 'the announcement' will raise more questions than it answers and even the BBC has been vague/incorrect on what the rules are.

I want to know when I can go for 'a proper walk' or other outdoor activity, rather than staying local and not wanting to risk being fined by not having a reasonable excuse for how far I've travelled.

I also want to be able to properly look at things in shops before I buy them. I'm sick of returning 80% of what I buy because its unsuitable once I've seen it in real life.

Pizzaandgarlicdip · 21/02/2021 11:00

I really want tennis courts to reopen so DP can work properly again.
He’s been doing 121 lessons in the park (which bizarrely is allowed) but it’s not ideal with no toilets or other facilities that he’d usually have. We were supposed to be buying a house this year and I know slowly watching our savings go down is killing him as he can’t work anywhere near the hours he usually would.

showmethegin · 21/02/2021 11:01

@TwirpingBird I'm sorry you haven't seen your family, that must be hard. Obviously it would be important for you to travel as soon as you can but is the other half of your post really necessary?

feathermucker · 21/02/2021 11:01

I want youth football training and matches to resume as my 14 year old needs it to.

HipTightOnions · 21/02/2021 11:02

Will be watching between my fingers from behind the sofa.

(Rather ancient teacher in a secondary school in an area that still has high rates of infection.)

motherrunner · 21/02/2021 11:04

If I’ll get a vaccine (mid 40s teacher and very worried about going back to face to face teaching as before).

Janaih · 21/02/2021 11:04

I've got a UK holiday booked for April so would like to know if thats on. Had a rough outline in the papers yesterday that said June for uk breaks though.
I cba with socially distanced meeting outside had enough of that faff. So I'll carry on being a hermit for a few months.
Also cba with bozo waffle, ill keep an eye on Robert Peston's twitter feed instead.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 21/02/2021 11:04

Schools - I am all for extra safely precautions but please let everyone go back on 8th March.

Indoor meeting of two households or group of 6. I think it is reasonable to have both options and know it will be outside first but just can’t wait to be able to go round to my parents house again or do small meet ups with friends.

Outdoor running events - we need parkrun back. I am probably overly optimistic but it is outside and they have a Covid framework ready to go. Surely we can do this before or at least at the same time as hospitality.

Weight loss groups. They don’t get much mention but did come back for a bit last year so fingers crossed.

Choir - I have very little hope for this. Singing seems to be the most dangerous thing in the world. Maybe when all restrictions have lifted.

OrangeBananaFish · 21/02/2021 11:08

I have missed parkrun more than anything else. It's been nearly a year. It was going to come back in October, but obviously that never happened as cases started to rise. I keep reading their emails and blog to hopefully see some news, but nothing yet.

Pythonesque · 21/02/2021 11:11

Schools going back and GCSE and A level grading plans are my priorities.

SittinOnTheDockOfTheBay · 21/02/2021 11:13

Missing organised sports - mine are running and hiking, so done outdoors. I can do them with 1 friend at the moment but it's nicer to do them in a group. Also, pretty low chance of transmission as outdoors.

I'd really like to go on holiday. Happy to go on a U.K. holiday. We have a week booked off in June (DC are nursery age, so not tied to school holidays yet). Even if we can't go away, it would be nice to be able to plan some day trips for our week off.

MagicSummer · 21/02/2021 11:13

Hairdressers please! My roots are scary!

Janaih · 21/02/2021 11:14

Oh @SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun you have reminded me I would love for hymns to return to church. I don't think its going to happen this year sadly.
Fans at sporting and music events ditto.

Tara336 · 21/02/2021 11:15

I’m supposed to be marrying in Scotland in April, need to be able to travel, visit hairdressers and beauty salons before we go, also need the numbers increased as currently 5 at a wedding rule included the two witnesses and minister which means we can’t have a photographer. Would love gyms to open asap as well I want to exercise and get fit again

DiscombobulationStation · 21/02/2021 11:15

@ThursdayLastWeek

I need my kids to not be in my house all the time.
I hear you 🙌🏻
SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 21/02/2021 11:16

Oh - I do think they should vaccinate school staff, the police and bus drivers alongside current groups. It wouldn’t be that complicated as they manage it now for health staff with a tick box and checking ID. They numbers are not that massive to slow everyone else down by very much. Maybe the whole flu vaccine list too - a predefined database that would be simple to add to the National system.

Eggsley · 21/02/2021 11:17

Outside meeting with more than one person. My DC are desperate to see their friends. I'd also like to sit in my parents' garden with them.

Hairdressers/beauticians being allowed to work. I'm working in the office every day and my hair and eyebrows look dreadful Blush My hairdresser is also my friend and she is desperate to get back to work.

An idea of when schools will open, DC1 needs to go back! I do think that all teachers and other school workers should be vaccinated before they re-open though. It's madness that they haven't been prioritised!

Football training to go back, it's my husband's job and he hasn't been paid during lockdown, even though he's had to run Zoom sessions each week. Even if it's in groups of 6, it does him and the children the world of good.

An idea of whether holidays will go ahead. It's probably too early for them to say but we've got an abroad holiday booked for July, which was meant to be last July and was booked in June 2019. I'd like to know if we can look forward to it or have our deposit back.

Pizzaandgarlicdip · 21/02/2021 11:17

I was really looking forward to hairdressers reopening but a friend in the US thinks she caught COVID from hers a few weeks ago so now I’m a bit more wary.

PinkBuffalo · 21/02/2021 11:18

@Waxonwaxoff0

I want everything back. I know it will be a while though! I probably won't watch.
Same! I really need a haircut, really need gyms open, really need human contact other than going in a shop
RosesAndHellebores · 21/02/2021 11:18

Schools
University - dd's final year
Gyms
Shops
Meeting indoors (my mother is too old and too far away for outdoor meet-ups)
Sport
Theatre/concerts/festivals
Self catering cottages

BluebirdHill · 21/02/2021 11:19

Has a time been announced for Monday's press conference? I have a work meeting 3-5 so hope it's not then.

Schools are the big thing for me but also outdoor meet up rules, travel outside your area to see family, zoo opening, and hospitality. Would love to sit in a cafe again.
