Bad news for anyone who was hoping to get away next year :(

Yeah, but it's ok because we have taken back control, haven't we?!Hmm

MayDayHelp · 10/12/2020 10:21

Phew yes you’re right, there was me thinking there’s no positive to this but of course there’s always that 🙄

OP posts:
OpheliasCrayon · 10/12/2020 10:23

It's fine . C'mon what you fussing about.
This is an oven ready brexit no?

Just like a world beating track and trace............

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/12/2020 10:23

And out new blue passports let us go anywhere don’t they? Because we are the U.K. ( at the moment) and the most important country in the world.😂😂😂😏

borntohula · 10/12/2020 10:24

Is this because of Brexit, covid or both? Genuine question.

lurker101 · 10/12/2020 10:24

Hmmm does anyone know the answer it’s hard to determine from that article - does this affect anyone travelling from Britain (due to COVID caseload) or is an EU citizen living in Britain exempt (to protect their freedom of movement within EU rights)?

AlexaShutUp · 10/12/2020 10:25

Brexit borntohula

FelicityPike · 10/12/2020 10:26

and people voted for this 😂

AlexaShutUp · 10/12/2020 10:26

To be clear, it's linked to covid but it's because of Brexit.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/12/2020 10:27

This will stop all the loaded Brexiteers going on their ski jollies won’t it?

Pyewhacket · 10/12/2020 10:28

Kinda think the Spanish and the Greeks will Vito or vote that down

Avondklok · 10/12/2020 10:28

Yes it's Covid related, but each country can make their own mind up.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/12/2020 10:29

I don’t. I think Europe hates Britain at the moment. I know l do and l’m British.

Bionicname · 10/12/2020 10:30

As I understand it it’s a mixture of Covid and Brexit - EU member states trying to keep borders open with fellow member states, which the UK won’t be anymore

sashagabadon · 10/12/2020 10:33

I remember all this banned from EU talk back in May. Then I heard the Greek tourism minister on radio 4 encouraging British tourists to come to Greece ASAP for their holidays and the Spanish tourism minister furious that Spain had been put on the U.K’s quarantine list. So not quite “banned” then Hmm
I suspect this will work out the same

sashagabadon · 10/12/2020 10:34

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

That is a ridiculous thing to say. Not least because loads and loads of eu citizens live in the U.K.. including me
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/12/2020 10:36

More Brexit bonuses Hmm

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/12/2020 10:38

Well I’m ashamed of Britain, their behaviour at the moment is just beyond embarrassing.

Why would any normal country with a grown up government even be bothered with us?

GroundAlmonds · 10/12/2020 10:38

@borntohula

It’s just during the pandemic.It’s not even confirmed, & It will change after vaccine roll out.

Some people are enduring catastrophising for anti-Brexit reasons but it’s not very fair because there are some genuinely extremely anxious people around this winter. It’s been a tough year.

GroundAlmonds · 10/12/2020 10:40

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

You hate Britain? All of it?

Have you never noticed how people sound when they announce they hate whole countries?

(Clue: Xenophobic and irrational AF.)

Siepie · 10/12/2020 10:42

I assume EU citizens are exempt. The Belgian government currently bans travel from outside the EU, but with exceptions for EU citizens and essential travel. In which case DP might take DS to visit family, while I'll be stuck in the UK Sad

Clavinova · 10/12/2020 10:43

Yes it's Covid related, but each country can make their own mind up.

Yes, the article in the op's link states;

"EU member states can override the European council recommendations in theory, should they wish to."

On the other hand;

"Under its latest emergency decree, the Italian government will require everyone arriving from countries in the EU or Schengen Zone to test negative for Covid-19 before entering Italy."

"The new rule takes effect from December 10th, and unlike previous orders, it states that travellers will need to get tested before arriving in Italy or face quarantine."

"Until now only a handful of countries, including Spain and the UK, were subject to mandatory testing..."

TantieTowie · 10/12/2020 10:43

@borntohula

Both. As members of the EU we had freedom of movement around the EU, Covid or no Covid. But now we're going to be a third country from Jan 1 we no longer have that freedom. The EU has shut borders to all third countries as a way of protecting against Covid except where they have lower infection rates than we do. About 8 countries. When our rate goes down, which it should do through the vaccine programme, we'll be allowed back in (though only for three months at a time).
Siepie · 10/12/2020 10:44

@borntohula

Both.

Currently, the EU has rules about travel from non-EU countries due to covid.

After the transition period, these rules will start to apply to the UK just like they apply to other non-EU countries.

GroundAlmonds · 10/12/2020 10:44

No you won’t. If your partner is an EU citizen you can have a card (forget the name) that allows you to share his EU travel rights when accompanying him. Apply for it!
