Bad news for anyone who was hoping to get away next year :(

It's not all about holidays.

It's about work too. I'm always surprised at the number of people on here who think that the only reason people travel abroad and/or get on a plane is to go on holiday.

Oreservoir · 10/12/2020 11:38

Scaremongering imo.
I live in France, I can assure you the French want and need UK tourists. Why do you think there's no quarantine atm for UK visitors to France?

But they do ask for a negative pcr test on arrival don't they?
GroundAlmonds · 10/12/2020 11:41
@GroundAlmonds well it would be nice to see my mum again and the kids see their grandparents, it's been a year now.

I recently got a job after losing mine to COVID so can't do the 14 day quarantine or afford the pcr tests for the family, but my parents had finally booked to come out in January. I know a few people in france who share custody with their British ex's, whose kids now haven't seen their fathers in months. It's not all about holidays.
No, I understand that, but for the very many people complaining about not being able to go on holiday, it’s about holidays.

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 11:42

@YoniAndGuy, because the spiteful EU should have known we'd reach this point and proactively changed all their laws and thousands of systems that would be problematic with a no deal, sorry Australian deal. The spiteful EU don't know their own interests and are obviously are trying to make things difficult to punish Great Britain

QuentinInQuarantino · 10/12/2020 11:44

@GroundAlmonds thanks for your understanding, Brits in Europe have been royally shafted by our own govt xx

praepondero · 10/12/2020 11:44

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

"I don’t. I think Europe hates Britain at the moment. I know l do and l’m British."

No, Europe doesn't hate Britain, however, most really don't care any longer what Brits do or don't do, every country has their own problems and Brexit is not important to most.

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 11:45

@Puzzledandpissedoff, now we have control of our own borders, everyone will want to contribute to help everyone, after all there'll be no unwelcome visitors who don't pay into the Great British pot now we have sovereignty.

Changi · 10/12/2020 11:45

But they do ask for a negative pcr test on arrival don't they?

Requiring a PCR test before entry is a world apart from being banned. Several EU countries require negative PCR tests before they will grant entry, even for travellers from other EU countries.

PTW1234 · 10/12/2020 11:47

So EU has but the uk on the travel ban for none essential travel, like any other country not part of the EU? With options for member states to override this recommendation if they wish!?!

Genuinely can’t see what to get mad about... most EU destinations we have to quarantine in return anyway - seems quite sensible to me!

Oreservoir · 10/12/2020 11:47

@QuentinInQuarantino
But they do ask for a negative pcr test on arrival don't they?
Currently no. The UK is exempt.

Well yes but at nearly £150 apiece prohibitive for a lot of families!

Ah ok, Spain do which was the nail in the coffin for my Xmas trip hole

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/12/2020 11:48

But Britain’s petty tantrum will cause shockwaves in Europe. So even if they don’t hate us now, they soon will.

laudemio · 10/12/2020 11:48

This is due to covid and fair enough.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/12/2020 11:49

Good luck with that Grin

GroundAlmonds · 10/12/2020 11:50

Yes. You really do have my sympathy.

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 11:51

'Why do Merkel and Macron hate us Mummy?' Fenton, a British Labrador, asked with a sad face while sat on the sofa of his owner, Sophie Entwistle in a pleasing 1950s floral print dress (available from these sellers)?

I don't know why the EU is being spiteful and making it harder for us to take Fenton to our Gite in the Dordogne. They're obviously punishing us for taking back sovereignty and trying to discouraging any other Member States from wanting to leave the obviously doomed EU that won't be around in five years anyway.

Will no one think of the puppies (or the children, we'll build a programme better than Erasmus where they can study in ..... Australia)?

Changi · 10/12/2020 11:51

Well yes but at nearly £150 apiece prohibitive for a lot of families!

It's the price you have to pay if you want to travel during a pandemic.

Life isn't fair, never has been.

AppleJane · 10/12/2020 11:52

@Welcometonowhere

If this is being done out of spite, then quite honestly how petty and ridiculous. I voted to remain and would still prefer to remain, but I am surprised people have concluded we are the ones at fault here.

Either it’s because of safety, in which case fair enough, or spite, which isn’t.

One of the most sensible opinions I've seen on here! I just wish regardless of how we voted we could all unite against scare tactics.
Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 11:53

@Puzzledandpissedoff, we just need to take back control from those pesky Judges then we'll control our borders, that is when the good old Royal Navy aren't protecting our sweet-tasting fish. Priti is on the case. Doesn't matter what the question is, the answer is Priti, Raab, Gove......

HmmSureJan · 10/12/2020 11:54

@BungleandGeorge

I expect it will change when the summer season starts and covid is more controlled and they want the tourist income
Well, yes.
AlexaShutUp · 10/12/2020 11:54

Of course it isn't because of spite. It is because we have chosen to become a third country, and therefore a different set of rules apply.

Camomila · 10/12/2020 11:55

I really need to get moving on the DCs Italian passport applications!
And DHs too - getting him to B1 level Italian might be tricky as he mainly knows greetings and the names of different foods!

Welcometonowhere · 10/12/2020 11:57

But those rules (if they relate to safety) would apply regardless alexa
