Bad news for anyone who was hoping to get away next year :(
@HijadelaLuna, well if the spiteful EU blockade the UK then could trained piscine sub-surface transport fill the gap? I've seen drones deliver supplies to the Isles of Scilly?
That drone had the capacity to carry 2 newspapers & a bunch of grapes Hmm

Spasiba · 12/12/2020 09:42

The best thing about Brexit is reading the fulminating posts written by the arrogant remoaners. I can almost hear them foaming at the mouth.

AuldAlliance · 12/12/2020 09:44

Some of the reactions to Zilla's messages remind me of what Swift said about satire...

Zilla1 · 12/12/2020 09:46

@Dazedandconfused28, but it was testing proof of concept. Once the Isles of Scilly delivery drone has passed proof of concept, they can scale up. Do you know how much the Spruce Goose could carry? And it flew a number of times for some distance. Technology has moved on somewhat since then too.

A bit like the IT and tracking system the PM was talking about to mean we wouldn't need a border between the UK and EU. If only everyone hadn't been so sceptical about

Well fingers crossed they'll be ready to go by the the New Year!

SabrinaThwaite · 12/12/2020 10:03

I think the English should have full access to The English Channel (clues in the name) and let the Frenchies only have access to La Manche.

Problem solved!

Zilla1 · 12/12/2020 10:05

Yes, now the bureaucratic EU isn't tying our hands (and not in a kinky way), we can accelerate the future.

White heat of technology.

We'll have never had it so good.

To be clear, 'Never had it so good' when we're in the future sunny uplands, not 'never had it so good' as when we were in the EU.

Funny thing, English. Trying to write unambiguous posts so posters can't pick fault like Captain Hindsight or misinterpret what's being said.

Not that I'm criticising English. Finest language. World's greatest export. Not that 'they' pay to use it, unfortunately.

And no, no one should try and say the Queen's English has borrowed or is based on foreign languages. Saxon, Saxon are a rock band.

borntobequiet · 12/12/2020 10:47

Maybe if the EU had thought to tie our hands in a more kinky way it would have had greater appeal for the upper echelons of our Government, and we’d have a deal. Missed a trick there.

AuldAlliance · 12/12/2020 11:12

I'm sure Barnier knows some good knots. He's from the Alps, after all...

And Ursula could provide the silk - she is from a silk merchant family after all :)
AuldAlliance · 12/12/2020 11:33

Barnier's father was a craftsman who made leather goods, I believe...

TheSunIsStillShining · 12/12/2020 11:43

@AuldAlliance
ok, not saying anything more than :)

As someone who needs to travel on Jan 1st to an EU country for work I can tell you that the bureaucracy we have now inflicted upon ourselves is far, far worse than when we were in the EU.
AuldAlliance · 12/12/2020 12:22
Grin
Zilla1 · 12/12/2020 12:29

@Dazedandconfused28, I'm genuinely sorry to hear that. I expect it will be difficult for a large number of people unless there's some deal or a 'deal no deal' where the EU unilaterally, possibly informally, eases things in a surprising way for a legal-political entity. I heard talk of that emerge last night.

AuldAlliance · 12/12/2020 12:38

My grin should not be misinterpreted - there is too much of that on this thread already.

It's already very hard for a lot of people.

My DSis is currently trying to prevent her her personal life from being torn asunder by the rules about UK citizens travelling to the UE, after only just salvaging the professional activity she has built up over the last 10 years or more.

And this is just the start...

Zilla1 · 12/12/2020 12:45

@AuldAlliance, FWIW, I'd presumed the grin related to the talk of leather, knots and ... politicians rather than personal interest though if that floats your gunboat or sovereign fish trawler, I wouldn't judge.

Zilla1 · 12/12/2020 13:04

after all, the UK is renown for it's tolerance and freedom.

I just admire her energy

I don’t think i could keep it up this long

AuldAlliance · 12/12/2020 13:12

Brexit zeal, mayhap?

DdraigGoch · 12/12/2020 13:13

To be honest, if they had done this six months ago, that Cardiff-Zante flight (and the other superspreader) would never have happened and the UK wouldn't be in half as bad a state as it is now. There would be no worries about a barely-enforceable 14 day quarantine if people weren't even given the opportunity to go.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 12/12/2020 13:14

@AuldAlliance

Brexit zeal, mayhap?
Was thinking drugs

But yeah...

timeforanewstart · 12/12/2020 13:15

When in the eu we had travel bans to other eu countries or enforced quarintine due to covid
You really think spain and greece etc will ban all uk holiday makers after such a crap year already

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/12/2020 13:45

Couldn't we just fit the trawlers with guns. It would save tying up the 4 navy boats?

Proper British, manufactured in the UK guns of course. British guns for British trawlers.

Not sure🤔 are submarine boats going to patrol at the border as well?
