Bad news for anyone who was hoping to get away next year :(

Good. IDGAF. But they don't get to come here either.

And it IS covid related, so can people stop spouting shit. It's NOTHING to do with Brexit, no matter how much the remoaners want it to be.

The EU are shitting themselves right now, because they know we are not afraid to go without a deal. And they NEED us.

Yep, they do. Sorry and all that... Wink

SonjaMorgan · 10/12/2020 10:45

I doubt we will have enough money to go on holiday when food prices rise anyway.

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 10:46

Come on, OP. We'll sign better deals, buccaneering deals with much better places to go. Don't forget, it's not 'no deal', It's Australia ... Venezuela, Syria, Yemen [need to check if any of those will have better than WTO deals with the UK]. Sunny, lovely Australia. Doesn't that sound better than Bulgaria in Winter?

BTW, I'd expect the COVID restrictions on travel will be one of the less difficult constraints to resolve.

Welcometonowhere · 10/12/2020 10:47

If this is being done out of spite, then quite honestly how petty and ridiculous. I voted to remain and would still prefer to remain, but I am surprised people have concluded we are the ones at fault here.

Either it’s because of safety, in which case fair enough, or spite, which isn’t.

Kazzyhoward · 10/12/2020 10:50

@Pyewhacket

Kinda think the Spanish and the Greeks will Vito or vote that down
Yep - no way will they sacrifice their tourist areas that rely on UK holidaymakers and holiday home owners. It would crash their economy.
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/12/2020 10:50

Ground almonds, l hate what the country has become. Inward, isolationist, tantrumming, divided, self important, archaic, ‘little England’

I love some of the people and scones and scenery and it’s history. I hate it’s bigotary and racism.

Celandines · 10/12/2020 10:51

Don't worry op. Brexit means Brexit. Get Brexit Done. I'm sure Brexit voters know what they are doing and it's all going to be wonderful. If it's not then we will know who to blame

randomer · 10/12/2020 10:53

Despise the Brexit thing but I do feel this is unlikely to be true. Economics rule and Johnny Foreigner wants our money.
Thank the Lord for sovereinty. That will see us through these challenging times.

GroundAlmonds · 10/12/2020 10:53

Either it’s because of safety, in which case fair enough, or spite, which isn’t.

It’s just rules. We will automatically transfer from being a country internal to the EU to being a country external to the EU so a different set of COVID control protocols will apply to us.

Those rules already exist and apply differently to - say - Brazil and France as we speak. We are just stepping outside the boundary overnight.

It can’t be “spite” that once we are outside the EU the EU will probably treat us as though we are outside of t EU.

In fact, there’s still the possibility that they will be generous and give us a staged arrangement.

BungleandGeorge · 10/12/2020 10:54

I expect it will change when the summer season starts and covid is more controlled and they want the tourist income

BarbaraofSeville · 10/12/2020 10:54

But its everything to do with Brexit, because when we were in the EU, we had the same rights and freedoms that came with being in the EU, in this case freedom of movement. But the people have spoken and unfortunately the majority of those who have voted didn't want any of those.

Don't forget you'll need proof of vaccination to go to Australia Grin!
LastTrainEast · 10/12/2020 10:54

It's because of covid and says so at the top. The only reason Brexit gets a mention is that we would have had an exemption if a member of the EU.

But if some of you feel better for playing "let's blame brexit" than just go for it. It doesn't have to make sense to be fun.

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 10:55

No PM, No sovereign nation could possibly agree to any loss of sovereignty while still wanting full access to the Single Market and if that leads to some petty administrative problems with the spiteful EU (who let's face it should have predicted and planned for the UK to have reached this point of not having reached a deal so should have unilaterally changed all it's legal and administrative systems to prevent issues with COVID travel, security systems and so on) then every right-minded British Citizen would agree it's just petty-fogging film-flam compared with the big picture. We have sovereignty over our land, our fish, our food, our borders, our air. Let's all rejoice and holiday in the UK. Or Australia. Let's Zoom any family who are unpatriotic enough to reside abroad. Cake shops beware.

GroundAlmonds · 10/12/2020 10:56

The referendum result was not far off 50/50. We haven’t “become” anything different. We are still the hugely complicated mixture we always were (and we will rejoin the EU in time). We have good and bad elements to us.

Self hate never makes anything better. It only makes things worse.

pussycatinboots · 10/12/2020 10:56

It'll be fine. Remember we're British!

We'll all have lovely new blue passports, and after the last few month we're used to queueing. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm still waiting for Boris to produce his oven-ready deal - you know, the one that got him elected...

Twat.🤬

GroundAlmonds · 10/12/2020 10:56

Now that is a wise post.
JS87 · 10/12/2020 10:56

Maybe in the summer but this article is about the implications in the next 3-6 months I think. There is hardly any tourism at the moment anyway so for the limited number of people who were hoping to get some winter sun/skiing in EU in the next few months I doubt the countries will bother to lift the restrictions as they are all dealing with increasing covid cases and restrictions.

brilliotic · 10/12/2020 10:57

You can still go to Switzerland. They are not in the EU. You don't even have to quarantine when you get there. And unlike everywhere else, the skilifts are running!

(Because the case numbers are so high in Switzerland that it would be absurd to make anyone arriving from much safer countries such as the UK quarantine...)

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 10:57

@JS87, yes though let's all be patriotic and enjoy sovereign holidays within our sovereign borders or on St Helena, Ascenscion and other patriotic parts of the UK, well those that haven't put up their own COVID restrictions.

Pyewhacket · 10/12/2020 10:57

.... unless you have vaccine stamp in your passport. But that was always gonna be the case.

AlexaShutUp · 10/12/2020 10:58

The only reason Brexit gets a mention is that we would have had an exemption if a member of the EU.

Erm, yes. We would have an exemption if we were still a member of the EU, hence it is because of Brexit that we don't have that exemption. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

lljkk · 10/12/2020 10:58

Who else heard story this morning (BBC radio?) about the English guy who had cancer treatment in last 5 years... after Brexit he's looking at £800 medical insurance cost to travel to EU for 2 weeks.

Good ol' Brexit. The gift that keeps on giving!

Kissthepastrychef · 10/12/2020 10:58

Yes, I'm sure that there will be millions of Australian, Kiwi & Singaporean tourists flocking to the Italian ski resorts, Greek islands, Spanish holiday resorts and France. I'm sure they will replace the lost British tourist money

This clearly will be sorted by Easter or whole swathes of the European tourist industry will be even more dessimated than they already are.
