Couldn't we just fit the trawlers with guns. It would save tying up the 4 navy boats?
The Fishery Protection Squadron have been doing the job since 1379, why change that now? I'm not sure that replacing them with a modern version of privateers (government-sponsored pirates) is such a good idea.

@HijadelaLuna, I'd not even thought of submarines so I like your thinking. They'd not need to wait in line at Felixstowe. They could swim up to Fastlane. Would be a win-win as would show Scots tish how important they are. Treating them first to imports would be a good signal, sort of like introducing the Poll Tax showed the Scots they were at the fore front of the then PM's thoughts. I suppose if Boris wants to head off Scotxit at the pass, it would be the little things like that that show the love. Better off together, though with Scotland. Not with the EU.

Spot on Radio 4 asking a French person what on Earth she was thinking of, jeopardising a surplus of £2bn of trade in food with the UK. I couldn't hear properly. She might have said it's like a man shooting himself in the head and a bystander having to pay for a drycleaning bill from the splatter. I can't believe France is looking to shoot herself in the head.

And as for Radio 4 trying to pick fault and ask whether Australia has a tunnel to mainland Europe, haven't they heard of the global hyper loop network so Australia will by the end of a century. Probably. And to which nation are there cultural ties? The Ashes. Rugby. So culture and the white heat of technology. Exceeds some spurious, imputed value of the Single Market, probably.

Good for Boris to be willing to carry on negotiating and be flexible, for the good of everyone.
