Bad news for anyone who was hoping to get away next year :(

@LisaLee333

Of course its related to Brexit too. If we were still in the EU we'd be exempt. Hence why it comes into play on the 1st Jan.

Viviennemary · 10/12/2020 10:59

Covid is a good excuse to turn the screw.

lurker101 · 10/12/2020 10:59

@Siepie thanks - you may be able to travel too quite easily and with no visa charge. Current visa rules for non-EU spouses of EU citizens to travel to EU countries are very relaxed, in that it’s basically a notification that you will travel, otherwise there’s a perceived infringement on the EU citizens freedom of movement (as your OH/DC may not want to/be able to travel without you)

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 11:00

Is the chip in the new, blue Passport different to the chip in the vaccine?

Even if the COVID restrictions are removed, we should all boycott the EU until the petty-fogging administrative and legal restrictions on Rover and Tiddles travelling too (Daily Mail dog sad face photograph to follow).

Everyone who's patriotic knows a blue passport, travel insurance that covers pre-existing conditions, green card and IDP are much better than an EU passport anyway.

AlexaShutUp · 10/12/2020 11:00

Who else heard story this morning (BBC radio?) about the English guy who had cancer treatment in last 5 years... after Brexit he's looking at £800 medical insurance cost to travel to EU for 2 weeks.

Yeah, but he'll get a nice blue passport so it will all be worth it.

Kljnmw3459 · 10/12/2020 11:00

Most Europeans still want brits to be able to travel as before. Covid is one thing but British tourism brings in a lot of money in some countries.

Peppafrig · 10/12/2020 11:00

I’m guessing they will face the same if they want to come here

lurker101 · 10/12/2020 11:01

Ah sorry I see @GroundAlmonds is saying the same thing

unebaguettepastropcuite · 10/12/2020 11:01

@LisaLee333

Good. IDGAF. But they don't get to come here either.

And it IS covid related, so can people stop spouting shit. It's NOTHING to do with Brexit, no matter how much the remoaners want it to be.

The EU are shitting themselves right now, because they know we are not afraid to go without a deal. And they NEED us.

Yep, they do. Sorry and all that... Wink

Actually is is to do with Brexit too. It's been explained several times above how it's a combination of both
mumwon · 10/12/2020 11:01

So after Boris decided to go back on international agreement/contract/treaty with EU it was reported in the Media that this could (would) allow other countries to break them too - anybody read about Russia saying they their laws would trump international treaties
uk.reuters.com/article/russia-politics-law/putin-signs-law-allowing-russian-legislation-to-trump-international-treaties-idUSKBN28I276

GroundAlmonds · 10/12/2020 11:01

This clearly will be sorted by Easter or whole swathes of the European tourist industry will be even more dessimated than they already are.

You can’t be more or less decimated. You’re either decimated or you’re not. It means losing one tenth. Which is why it starts with the letters “dec” meaning ten.

Mustbe3ormorecharacters · 10/12/2020 11:02

Well the thread title is fear mongering and not accurate.

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 11:02

Of course it's the spiteful EU and not a consequence of having hit 11:59pm in the negotiations without a deal hence not having resolved all the administrative and legal systems that under-pin a multi-Nation State alliance. Pure spite, I tell you. The EU should have predicted we'd reached this point and picked all the thousands of administrative systems to change. Pure spite. Cake shops, beware.

unebaguettepastropcuite · 10/12/2020 11:03

@Viviennemary

Covid is a good excuse to turn the screw.
Nobody is turning a screw. These are simply the rules that apply to non-EU countries
mumwon · 10/12/2020 11:03

think - nuclear arms race - human rights embassy safeguards from arrest etc etc etc

GroundAlmonds · 10/12/2020 11:03

@lurker101

Ah sorry I see *@GroundAlmonds* is saying the same thing
She hasn’t responded to either of us, so perhaps she already knew (you’d expect her to) & was just making a point? Smile
Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 11:04

@GroundAlmonds, perhaps dessimated involves decimating the subject then desiccating the remaining 90%? I admire the purity of your decimated (I've never seen it used correctly in the last five years).

Thespidersweb · 10/12/2020 11:04

Holiday insurance is invalid at the moment anyway is it? ( maybe wrong)

I think when summer comes it will change. Many countries rely on U.K. tourism

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/12/2020 11:04

And it IS covid related, so can people stop spouting shit. It's NOTHING to do with Brexit, no matter how much the remoaners want it to be.

How is it not to do with Brexit? The EU is applying the same rules to us as it applies to all other non-EU countries. While we’re in the EU we can travel within it under the same conditions as all other EU conditions once the transition period has ended we will be treated as a non-EU country which means no non-essential travel unless you have low levels of cibidvand have it under control. If it wasn’t for Brexit this literally wouldn’t be happening. 🤦‍♀️

cantdothisnow1 · 10/12/2020 11:04

Poppycock, without Brexit we wouldn't have 3rd country status and we'd be able to travel, (subject to the covid restrictions within EU).

Brexit gives us the status of a third country which is why this travel will be restricted to the same status as other third countries as far as covid is concerned.

Stop making things up.

FastMovingLuxuryGoods · 10/12/2020 11:05

@AlexaShutUp

The only reason Brexit gets a mention is that we would have had an exemption if a member of the EU.

Erm, yes. We would have an exemption if we were still a member of the EU, hence it is because of Brexit that we don't have that exemption. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Exactly.

God, the sight of Brexiteers pathetically trying to pretend there's NOTHING TO SEE HERE, IT'S ALL COVID'S FAULT.

You voted to make the UK a 3rd country. Own your fucking shit.

prawntoastie · 10/12/2020 11:05

COULD be.
Let's not be irrational

PiersMorgansYogaTeacher · 10/12/2020 11:06

This is all due to people not believing enough in Brexit.

Zilla1 · 10/12/2020 11:07

I've seen the arrival of the Mercedes, VW and BMW limousines at Chancellor Merkel's. Rest assured, the German car manufacturers will tell Frau Merkel to give the UK everything we want who will tell the EU who will tell all the Nation States. Sort of like the cavalry. If the cavalry drive German Engineered cars. Does that make the UK like the homesteaders?

GroundAlmonds · 10/12/2020 11:07

Perhaps I shouldn’t indulge my pedantry, but the fear mongering irritates me.
