To think this time loads of people are not going to comply

Been speaking to family and friends and the general mood appears to be that this time round is different.

Most people say they are going to break the covid rules. Obviously they can’t go out to restaurants or stuff but they said they will have friends and family round.

I think people and govt may be overestimating compliance this time around.

Could we be left with an ineffective lockdown that only serves to further damage the economy?

It is also not just in this country but in Italy , France ,Spain , Belgium too everyone is pissed off

I think this is a big mistake. I think the mood of the public has changed. People are really fed up. There is no end goal to look forward too.

I personally don’t know anyone who is going to do this. Yes everyone is frustrated and fed up but people recognise we’ve been asked to follow rules for a reason! Not sure what sort of people you are mixing with?

I do feel it is unreasonable to ask partners who live separately not to see each other. For how long? Forever?

I think a lot of people complied with this first time round, but this time? I don't know. Seems a difficult one.

I am not even in that situation personally, but I can see how it affects my adult children.

And its those people who dont do it that will cause us to still be in lockdowns next year!

If they don’t comply then schools will have to close and restrictions will go on longer. I will be complying and so will my friends and family.

The vast majority will comply - over 98% complied last time

It’s 50/50 amongst all my family/friends and associates, or thereabouts. Far, far less compliance this time round. It’s dangerous territory for sure.

I agree. They do factor in some non compliance though. Let’s hope it’s enough.

Of course they're not going to comply and the main reason is because there are too many exceptions and loopholes that disproportionately put the impact of the restrictions on a group of people who are at the lowest risk from the virus. If they want to get people complying they need to end support bubbles, remove mask exemptions and generally go back to one set of rules that is the same for everyone.

I think 90% is way too optimistic. It will be 70% at best.

I think many people simply don’t care, I’ve heard a lot of people say if I get Covid, I get covid and similar statements.

Depends if they want this to keep on dragging out, or whether perhaps they want this time to be it.

Then again, people would be forgiven for wanting to ignore the rules - if we continue to import Covid.

Lockdowns are tough but worth it - if they're done properly. If not, it's a pointless hardship.

A lot of areas have also had high restrictions limiting household mixing for some time, I think 'lockdown fatigue' might be driving down compliance this time around. I've heard a lot about how 'pointless' it is if the schools are open which seems to be a justification people are using to ignore some of the rules.

Now they've clarified that kids under 5 aren't included in 2 adults meeting up means me and my dd can still see our friends so that means i don't have to break that rule.

I certainly wont just be shopping for 'essentials', i'll keep going to the supermarket as normal, and b&qetc if its open.

If they want people to be fit and healthy to fight covid they need to open gyms and leisure centres, thats what i'm most annoyed about

Uk exceptionalism again. Of course we are different, always looking for a way out of restrictions, not a cohesive society at all.

But those who DO observe will see their efforts as worthless if others do not observe. That is the problem now.

Actually compliance I don’t think will be too bad but people and businesses will not go the extra mile, many that shut will open for take away, construction will not shut (didn’t have to last time but many did!), there will be a lot more “what do the rules say” and if technically allowed it will go ahead. Last time there was good will and all in it together this time there is “so what I am told but I don’t really believe it will help anymore”...the government only ever had a one off chance at a “proper” lockdown as it requires good will.
