How come Prince Charles gets a Covid test but front line NHS workers can't?

Prince charles has corona and, unsurprisingly him and Camilla have managed to have tests.....

He comes in to contact with lots of people so fair enough and he is over 70. However the argument about him dying makes no sense. He could die anyway, not just from cornavirus but because he's not exactly young. So could the Queen as she is in her 90s.
If one of them die it's going to cause problems regardless. He'll probably be okay as I believe he,only has mild symptoms and will get the best doctor.
However I agree I'd like to see NHS staff tested as they also come in to contact with a lot of vulnerable people too.

heartsonacake
of course, I genuinely believe that the royals have absolutely no value whatsoever for this country, and it's about time to get rid of the monarchy once and for all when this is over.

If you think there's any value, you should educate yourself and do a bit of research.
If you think the value is to have someone to worship and you like being a subject because it makes you feel safer, I can understand that but I surely do not agree with it at all. The fact that you have to make goady personal attack to present your point says a lot, I am sure you won't like being told you are wrong in reply Smile

@iVampire and others....he didn't meet the Scottish criteria - they are saying he met the NHS Grampian criteria. In other areas of Scotland, testing is only done if the person is admitted to hospital.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter - any member of the royal family is oviously going to jump straight to the top of the queue. Interesting to see if Camilla got a ventilator if she needed one given her age and smoking history as others in that category won't when we run out. Of course she would - that's just the way it is.

Doggybiccys · 25/03/2020 17:03

Testing is a bit of a red herring too. A nurse could test postive today and then pick it up on night shift tonight. People are saying....but if a person had symptoms and they were tested and it was negative, they wouldn't need to self-isolate. But no test has 100% specificity and sensitivity and as I say, they could have a different regular cold-type virus, then pick up the Covid-19 virus a couple of days later. So unless NHS staff etc are tested constantly, its a bit of a false sense of security.

Sunflower20 · 26/03/2020 00:10

Not sure why Camila got tested when she has been asymptomatic. Met NHS Grampian criteria for testing....what are they exactly? These guidelines have not been made available to the general public that's for sure, it's not on their website. Meanwhile doctors and nurses who have been exposed to Covid positive patients without PPE but haven't become symptomatic yet get told to carry on working and hope for the best.

Lynda07 · 26/03/2020 01:22

Why do people think Prince Charles would be a burden to the Grampian Health authority if he becomes ill? He wouldn't, he'd be treated privately.

dragonicicle · 26/03/2020 01:27

@Lynda07 there are no private facilities to treat Prince Charles. The doctors are working flat out in the NHS. There is no private capacity. If Prince Charles needs treatment it'll be from an NHS doctor, likely one that also works privately and if he needs a ventilator, it'll be one that could've been used on someone else, not from some private royal stash of ventilators. Im actually a royalist, just a realist too so nothing against Charlie boy here.

EachDubh · 26/03/2020 03:12

I have no problem with him being tested but i have a massive issue with them coming to Scotland, a rural area which doesn't have the resources or beds that they have down south, ill. Everything the first minister advised people not to do was deemed unimportant. Simply by choosing to come up here, especially when ill, tgey have put the lives of local people at risk and that is unfair.
Beyond that i wish him well and a full recovery.

Topseyt · 26/03/2020 03:27

Lynda07, the NHS is spending millions each day buying up the use of private hospital beds so there are virtually none left at the moment. Capacity has mostly gone over to the NHS along with all doctors (as most do work in both systems).

I have no problem with him being tested. If he needs hospital treatment though it will have to be NHS. He is also a tax payer, I believe.

I have nothing against the royals. It might have been less controversial if he had gone to Highgrove, but I wish him well anyway.

It’ll be a long 12 weeks for you OP if you’re getting bothered by this

Exactly

slipperywhensparticus · 26/03/2020 05:05

Many many many celebrities have been tested have we had this discussion over them?

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 26/03/2020 07:03

Queen is in Windsor, Cambridges in Norfolk & PC in Scotland. The senior royals are being imo relocated. I think this is a strategy. A gut feeling.

HopeClearwater · 26/03/2020 21:49

I think this is a strategy

To do what?

yesterdayhasgone · 27/03/2020 00:57

He won’t have it I’m certain of that.It was the only way he could bugger off to safety, pretending he was positive. They must think we’re stupid.

Studentatuni · 27/03/2020 01:02

Does anyone know if there is any help financial you can apply for if you are a student who usually works on a zero hour contract in a bar that is now closed.

.......

I don't think that at all, what would be point.; Prince Albert of Monaco tested positive too, do you think he's lying?

I'm sure Prince Charles will recover and he is doing the sensible thing by isolating.

Lynda07 · 27/03/2020 01:24

Good post, Topsey. Very fair.

There are, however, places in the UK offering testing at a price.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 27/03/2020 06:12

Hope the senior royals have spread out. I think they have been deliberately separated to avoid them all going down with the virus.

Ineedwine1 · 27/03/2020 06:47

Money and status. Only reasons

yesterdayhasgone · 27/03/2020 07:16

Lynda07 Why don’t you think that, you don’t think the royal family lie? I think he most certainly would lie about something like that. How convenient that he tested positive but it’s only very mild. It’s the obvious thing he’d do, to justify isolating himself away from the world, what better way than pretending he had it. As for Prince Albert, very possibly doing the exact same thing. I don’t understand why you can’t see the point why they’d do it? Confused

HopeClearwater · 27/03/2020 20:51

been deliberately separated to avoid them all going down with the virus

Oh I see! Yes I suppose that’s a fairly Royal Family thing to do.
