How come Prince Charles gets a Covid test but front line NHS workers can't?

Prince charles has corona and, unsurprisingly him and Camilla have managed to have tests.....

You’re mad if you don’t see how it’s in everyone’s interests for him to be tested. If he dies, it will be a major logistical headache. There would be concerns about mass gatherings of mourners, about how to manage what would normally be a state funeral, about panic and uncertainty across the nation. You might think those things shouldn’t be issues and that’s fine, but as a matter of fact they will be. With so much riding on him and other active members of the RF not dying in the next three months, it is very sensible that he has been tested so that the situation can be managed proactively, not reactively.

And even if you don’t think the above merits testing, he meets the criteria according to the local health board. If you think being a royal should exclude him from being tested despite him meeting the criteria, I’d love to know the reason why.

HelgaHere1 · 25/03/2020 10:51

I don't know. I can't think of a single reason.

Another mystery...

user1471439240 · 25/03/2020 10:51

To be brutally honest, there will be millions of people who have, or have had this. The measures are to slow the spread and to protect the vulnerable. He probably had no symptoms but will have been tested as routine.

Oysterbabe · 25/03/2020 10:51

Because he's practically the fucking king?

Whalette · 25/03/2020 10:52

NHS workers can - they just aren't being routinely offered.

NHS workers who have been diagnosed have obviously been tested!

VivaLeBeaver · 25/03/2020 10:53

Well it's reassuring (for people in general as well as him) that he seems to only have mild symptoms. The media would have you believe anyone over 60 is fucked if they get it.

SexTrainGlue · 25/03/2020 10:54

They've publicly stated that he was tested on the NHS because he met NHS Scotland criteria

As they needn't have said anything at all (and we'd all have assumed he'd used privilege to buy a private one like countless footballers etc) I tend to assume they are telling the truth about meeting the Scottish threshold.

PutYourBackIntoit · 25/03/2020 10:54

I thought the same about Idris

NewYearNewJob123 · 25/03/2020 10:55

Did you want the numerous people he's come into contact with in the last few weeks to be kept in the dark?

Redwinestillfine · 25/03/2020 10:55

MP's were tested. Of course he should be tested. He's heir to the throne and was probably in contact with a lot of people while infectious. I'm sure the info he is positive is useful to them!

defthand · 25/03/2020 10:58

Actually Scotland is the only place in the U.K. still running some community based testing. The article I read said he “qualified” for the test. Given he’s not in the ICU (the only people who currently qualify per Hancock) he might have been eligible as part of that Scottish community surveillance.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 25/03/2020 10:59

Rosehip10

So Charlie has symptoms and the NHS rush to test? A ICU nurse with symptoms is told to go home for 14 days.
How do you know they have rushed to test him. He has symptoms and knew that he had been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with Coronavirus, Prince Albert of Monaco. Why would he not be tested?

I know which one I'd rather have back at work.
We could do without your unpleasantness on here.

quasimodo7 · 25/03/2020 10:59

All the royals will have been tested and undoubtedly will have access to first class medical treatments should they need it, as they would for any illness. Unfair but that's the way it will be .

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 25/03/2020 10:59

Of course he should be tested, he would have loads of contacts, MPs should also be tested if they show symptoms

FizzyGreenWater · 25/03/2020 10:59

But he still isn't as important as an NHS worker on the frontline - they will be coming into contact with far more people in a far more important setting.

Greenpop21 · 25/03/2020 11:00

Test nurses not him! Poor thing has to self isolate in his mansion. Hmm

HopeYouStepOnALego · 25/03/2020 11:00

I wonder if Camilla is now isolating from him? She was a heavy smoker at one point, so I'd have thought her lungs wouldn't be in tip top condition.

I can imagine there will be a lot of concern amongst Royal doctors. The Queen and DoE are both well into their 90s and Charles is 71. If - God forbid - this virus claimed any or all of them it would cause a huge crisis for the country. There has long been a plan in place about how to manage the funerals of senior Royals but goodness know what would happen if any of them died. I don't even want to think about it.

PieceOfMaria · 25/03/2020 11:01

He’s got it!

Srslydontgiveacrap · 25/03/2020 11:01

Agreed - test the NHS staff, not these lazy layabouts

TheReluctantCountess · 25/03/2020 11:01

I wonder if he’s struggling to find loo roll.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 25/03/2020 11:01

Hopefully he will fully recover being in the vulnerable over 70s group

MarginalGain · 25/03/2020 11:02

They're available privately.

He does indeed have it. I hope he's OK, I quite like PC.

WearyandBleary · 25/03/2020 11:02

HE’S IN SCOTLAND

THE RULES ARE DIFFERENT

PicsInRed · 25/03/2020 11:03

Come to think of it, Hopeyoustep, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge is apparently currently a regular smoker. I should have thought a 38 year old regular smoker would be considered higher risk for a more severe disease?

Figgygal · 25/03/2020 11:03

Oh don’t be a dick

Even if he wasn’t the future king he is in a high risk group due to his age so I’m not surprised he’s been tested
