How come Prince Charles gets a Covid test but front line NHS workers can't?

Prince charles has corona and, unsurprisingly him and Camilla have managed to have tests.....

Of course he should be tested. He is the future King.
The Prince's Trust does so much for young people in our country. I think the difference that he made by setting that up is often overlooked.

coconuttelegraph · 25/03/2020 11:20

What a stupdi question, if I'd met the POW in the past couple of weeks I'd want to know that I should be self isolating and to warn those I'd be in contact with. He's 1 person it's not affecting whether anyone else does or doesn't get a test

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 25/03/2020 11:20

Because he has tremendous priviledge as a result of who he was born to?

But how is this different to any other rich person who can afford a test.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 25/03/2020 11:22

If he dies would Andrew become heir apparent, or Anne as women can now be considered in the line of succession. Or would Wills still be in the running.

Corona hasn’t altered the way the line of succession works! If Charles (currently no. 1) dies then it goes to no. 2 William, if he dies it goes to no. 3 etc.

  1. Charles. 2. William. 3. George. 4. Charlotte. 5. Louis. 6. Harry. 7. Archie.
1forsorrow · 25/03/2020 11:23

I would imagine he has been in contact with loads of people, far more than most of us would in a 14 day period. I think it is right that those people should know, they need to isolate don't they?

He met the Scottish criteria

Whether he would have met the English ones (if he was in England) is a bit of a red herring

Blackbear19 · 25/03/2020 11:25

He met the criteria. He's likely to have tons of staff around. He also has very elderly parents.

ifonly4 · 25/03/2020 11:25

He travelled on Sunday, so you have to assume his symptons came on quite quickly and were severe enough to get a medical assessment, ie he must have had more than a temperature or cough which we're told to stay at home with and no mention of testing until after the seven day limit if you have other symptons.

WorraLiberty · 25/03/2020 11:27

Mad how he is being treated like royalty isn't it?

Grin Grin

FuckOffCorona · 25/03/2020 11:27

Well, no. If he dies he dies, and we will have to do without the state funeral etc. Desperate times mean we have to change our attitude.

Of course, but unless you’ve spent your life under a rock you’ll appreciate that these decisions have to be carefully considered and managed in a proactive and calm manner. You can’t wait for the heir to the throne to die and then start thinking about how you will manage mourners and funeral arrangements in a pandemic. There are multiple contingencies for things like this, and definitively knowing in advance whether the heir in question has an illness which is known to be pretty dangerous to over 70s is fairly important. That’s why it makes perfect sense for him to be tested, notwithstanding the fact that he qualified for testing anyway.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 25/03/2020 11:27

But he still isn't as important as an NHS worker on the frontline - they will be coming into contact with far more people in a far more important setting.
He IS as important as an NHS worker on the frontline. We are all as important as each other. He has come into contact with an enormous amount of people earlier in this month. How many people do you think an NHS frontline worker comes into contact with?

In the last few weeks Prince Charles has come into contact with people including those present at:
Commonwealth service at Westminster Abbey on 9th March.

Australian Bushfire relief event on 12th March.

Wateraid event in London (where he came into contact with Prince Albert of Monaco who later treated positive for Coronavirus).

Private meetings with the rest of the Royal Family including Prince Harry who then travelled by aeroplane to Canada amongst a load of other passengers and a security detail.

Don't be so stupid. He could very easily be a superspreader.

Lockheart · 25/03/2020 11:28

Regardless of what title he has, he's a 70 year old displaying coronavirus symptoms who has been in contact with a lot of people.

He's exactly the type of person we should be testing, it doesn't matter who they are.

derxa · 25/03/2020 11:28

I wish PC all the best.

CloudPop · 25/03/2020 11:30

He's in Scotland, and so technically it is the Duke of Rothsey who has tested positive

@Mockerswithnoknockers good point.

stayathomer · 25/03/2020 11:31

Think of all the important people he's probably been in contact with, and I'm serious about that, there's positive people in rte (Irish broadcasters) and I'd say it's a nightmare now because of eg ministers and health officials they'll have interviewed

Forza14 · 25/03/2020 11:32

Really stupid thread. A 71 year old man known to have been in direct contact with someone who tested positive for the virus is tested.

So what?

stayathomer · 25/03/2020 11:33

Ps and yes front Line workers should all be tested too

Mrhodgeymaheg · 25/03/2020 11:36

Well if he is really ill, then yes, he will be tested. He may have had contact with his mother in her 90's who also happens to be the Queen and presumably very vulnerable (not a fan of the royals by the way). So yes, he should be tested, but so should frontline HCP's. Again, people blaming everyone else but the governmemt for the lack of response and equipment (sigh).

BilboBercow · 25/03/2020 11:36

I'm concerned about the many people who work for him. Given that someone puts his toothpaste on his toothbrush for him, I imagine he won't be isolating from the many people who cook and clean and carry out various other duties

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2020 11:36

For goodness sake, not liking the monarchy is one thing, but this is just silly. Of course they tested him. He’s the future king and he’s been in physical proximity with many heads of state. They need to know if they are at risk too. It’s not about whether you’d rather test him or a nurse.

Petronius16 · 25/03/2020 11:37

At 82, I'm sorry for anyone who gets the virus, I wonder how many staff were involved in that one NHS visit, and how come he managed to be in Scotland, at 71 he should've been at home down South? Plenty of heirs to the throne anyway.

LambriniSocialist · 25/03/2020 11:38

Mad how he is being treated like royalty isn't it?

Very good, very good Smile
