Prince charles has corona and, unsurprisingly him and Camilla have managed to have tests.....

am I being unreasonable to think
Why is the fact Prince Charles has (a very mild form of C-19) is news worthy?????

Frothybothie · 25/03/2020 12:54

He, and all the other famous people who have had a test may well have done it privately, paying whatever for the test.

Yes its outrageous that front line NHS staff are not being tested as a priority as they culd return to work if proved clear.

Then again illegal migrants coming here are getting a free test so hey who's important?

Tracking connections is all the rage in South Korea - the Guardian et all want us to copy South Korea.

I would assume one of two things...

It’s a calming thing “see, look at all these people who have it and recover” (ignoring the superior health access they have)

Or it’s not so mild and the trickle of news needs to come out in case the worst happens so it’s not a complete shock to the country

Clavinova · 25/03/2020 13:01

too quick - et al

TheWordmeister · 25/03/2020 13:01

I care not about the royals, but of course he was going to be tested.

I am sure he'll be just fine.

CoffeeHere · 25/03/2020 13:01

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to HRH, too.

Oooh, do you think hes a mumsnetter?

NewYearNewJob123 · 25/03/2020 13:02

And if we were testing every NHS with a cough, we'd run out of tests even more quickly.

And if we WERE testing NHS workers and saying 'you're fine, get back to work' there'd be a national outcry.

Roostersmum2 · 25/03/2020 13:04

I don't begrudge him a test, least of all because he's over 70 therefore high risk. He was always going to be tested, he's heir to the throne Confused

I think the fact he's elderly and presenting as mild is very reassuring for the older generation. It has certainly made me feel a bit better about the fact I'm 26 and have symptoms.

I just read an article which states he's still up and about and managing to work from home(?)

I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Bubblebu · 25/03/2020 13:05

"I care not about the royals, but of course he was going to be tested.

Exactly. He will be just fine. Unlike others trying to save lives.

Cissyandflora · 25/03/2020 13:07

He’s heir to the throne.

Clavinova · 25/03/2020 13:08

jasjas1973
As his symptoms are very mild, there was no need to test as he will be getting the best medical care possible

Says much about our Royals.

You have a short memory!

jasjas1973
The testing regime in Korea works, we are not following this, so we've not a scooby who is ill or not.

PicsInRed · 25/03/2020 13:09

There’s no chance his symptoms are/were mild and they are releasing it

If they were 100% confident he was going to be fine we’d never have heard about it

You got it.
I think they're manipulating a technical "mild" as he's being treated at home. Much like the Queen have birth to Edward "at home", but with a full operating theatre and full medical staff to hand in case of emergency.

He's probably had a scan and his lungs are visibly COVID affected. That's why he was tested and why we were told.

If they don't have a full ICU set up at his home and ready to go I'll be shocked.

ScreamingLadySutch · 25/03/2020 13:12

NHS staff should be tested you are right. But that is not Prince Charles' fault get over yourself, really

Nonnymum · 25/03/2020 13:13

I'm not a royalist but I is think it was right to test him because he will have been in contact with a lot of people.

ScreamingLadySutch · 25/03/2020 13:14

A friend of mine sent a voice note of himself coughing

He can't go to hospital because it is 'mild'. If THAT is mild I am locking myself in the broom cupboard spraying bleach around for a year!

It sounded terrifying, frankly

Daffie19 · 25/03/2020 13:14

Probably. Paid for it himself!

TheFaerieQueene · 25/03/2020 13:14

I’m no royalist in fact I identify much more as a republican- a hereditary head of state is totally wrong in my mind - but I hope PC and everyone who has CV-19 (I know a number who have been diagnosed) a speedy recovery. Just because he is rich and privileged, it doesn’t mean he isn’t frightened.

FuckOffCorona · 25/03/2020 13:20

So what if he's 'heir to the throne', doesn't make his life anymore important.

Nor does it make it any less important so, since he met the criteria for a test, it’s reasonable that he received one.

HopeClearwater · 25/03/2020 13:22

He's in Scotland, and so technically it is the Duke of Rothsey who has tested positive

Do you mean Rothesay?

Nitpicking, I know. About as nitpicking as saying he’s got a different name in Scotland.

DippyAvocado · 25/03/2020 13:24

Owing to the large numbers of people he meets, it's probably very important he was tested and that the positive result was announced. This will probably be the easiest example of contact tracing so far as most people are likely to know whether they came into contact with Prince Charles in the last two weeks.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 25/03/2020 13:25

He’s Prince Charles.

SunshineCake · 25/03/2020 13:28

Stop with the toothpaste on his toothbrush bollocks. That was one period of time when he broke his arm.

Who reported my previous post? I still maintain the OP is being goady and acting in a less than pleasant manner.

It is very sensible that he be tested when he has become unwell for all sorts of obvious reasons.

tangledyarn · 25/03/2020 13:29

But the criteria for the test is hospital admission. I've also been told I almost certainly have covid19 pneumonia. Am an asthmatic HCP. In bed for over 2 weeks..still extremely breathless now and have narrowly avoided an admission. So yeah am really pisssed off.

Lynda07 · 25/03/2020 13:33

I heard about Prince Charles having the virus earlier, it hasn't taken long for the 'resenters' to come out in force.

Prince Charles would have paid for a test, if I wanted a test, which I don't, I would pay for one. However the virus is pretty distinctive from what I've read so a test is not necessary.

Prince Charles was with a group of bigwigs at a do recently, a small gathering, one of them tested positively for the virus so he obviously would want one.

My feeling is that NHS workers should be tested and if tested positive, not go to work. As things are, they could easily be transmitting the virus. It's scandalous that they're not routinely tested. Some have been infected.
