How come Prince Charles gets a Covid test but front line NHS workers can't?

Prince charles has corona and, unsurprisingly him and Camilla have managed to have tests.....

So are you saying all of the people with whom he has been in contact in recent weeks should be left in ignorance of the fact that they are at risk purely because the person concerned is the PoW?

On a personal level, I'm perfectly happy that a symptomatic 71 year old has been tested.

blueshoes · 25/03/2020 12:18

He is a key worker. We don't have enough heirs to the throne.

PigletJohn · 25/03/2020 12:21

We're all in this together...

...aren't we?

Tartyflette · 25/03/2020 12:22

blueshoes 😆😆

Crackerofdoom · 25/03/2020 12:23

Irrelevant. He’s the heir to the throne, he’s going to be tested.

There is a solution to that you know Wink

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 25/03/2020 12:24

On the subject of testing frontline NHS staff, they will be treated, as they always have been, with disdain. I would gamble my last penny to bet that Senior Management, and those further up the ladder, have been tested - and not at their own expense. Think high salaries, long meetings, all expenses paid junkets, and, of course, no hassle issued parking permits.
The original post by the OP doesn't even merit time responding to it.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/03/2020 12:24

He is potentially a super spreader and he met the NHS criteria in Scotland. It made sense to test him. He is over 70 and for all we know may have other heath conditions.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 12:28

He met the Scottish criteria for testing, therefore it is correct that he was tested

He should however be facing as much scorn as Kirsty Allsop and everyone else who fucked off to second homes because he shouldn’t be in Scotland

The80sweregreat · 25/03/2020 12:31

Jeremy Corbyn was tested. He paid for a private test. He received criticism but he is over 70 , doesnt look well and had probably been in contact with many people before too. Who knows if these people have underlying health needs as well?
If people pay I can't see a big problem; the nhs staff need to be tested too but I'm sure they will in time. I hope so anyway! Things take time. Maybe hearing about royalty may focus a few minds who still think it can't affect them? People are strange as to how they will believe this crisis is real.

Clavinova · 25/03/2020 12:35

Of course he should be tested - his last public engagement (less than two weeks ago) was an Investiture for approx 60 people - he may have been infected by someone at the event. Or perhaps someone who had travelled from Australia:

12 March 2020 Buckingham Palace

The Prince of Wales, on behalf of The Queen, held an Investiture at Buckingham Palace this morning.

12 March 2020 Clarence House
The Prince of Wales, President, The Prince's Trust, this afternoon held a Meeting.

His Royal Highness afterwards received Mr. Mark Carney (Governor of the Bank of England).

The Prince of Wales this evening attended a Dinner in aid of the Australian Bushfire Appeal, Mansion House, Walbrook, London EC4.

Busy day on the 11 March as well: Clarence House

The Prince of Wales, President, The Prince's Trust Group, this morning received Mr. Anthony Pratt (Founding and Cornerstone Patron, The Prince's Trust Australia).

His Royal Highness afterwards held a Sustainable Markets Meeting.

The Prince of Wales, Royal Founding Patron, University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, this afternoon held a Meeting.

His Royal Highness, President, later attended The Prince's Trust Awards at the London Palladium, Argyll Street, London W1, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London (Sir Kenneth Olisa).

The Duchess of Cornwall, Honorary Member, the Jockey Club, today attended the Cheltenham Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire (Mr. Edward Gillespie).

AmIAPenguin · 25/03/2020 12:36

You know anyone can buy one for £375 if they really wanted to and we’re stupidly rich?

Blankscreen · 25/03/2020 12:38

I'm just really worried there might not be a ventilator for him if he needs it.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 12:38

He was in contact with Albert of Monaco so as soon as Albert tested positive it’s likely Charles was tested

jasjas1973 · 25/03/2020 12:39

All those rish an famous he has met will now get tested.

There is a shortage of testing kits, so its far better that critical care nurses doc's consultants get the test rather than staying at home for 14 days instead think how many patients could be cared for if they aren't at home with a non CV illness ?

As his symptoms are very mild, there was no need to test as he will be getting the best medical care possible,

Says much about our Royals.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 12:40

There’s no chance his symptoms are/were mild and they are releasing it

If they were 100% confident he was going to be fine we’d never have heard about it

Nixen · 25/03/2020 12:41

Can’t believe that people can be arsed to waste energy on being angry about stuff like this to be honest. He’s the next monarch, obviously he’s been tested, engage your brain

Rhea1981 · 25/03/2020 12:44

So what if he's 'heir to the throne', doesn't make his life anymore important. A friend of mine is a nurse and has symptoms but is just told to stay at home and self isolate, no test. Of course normal decent people get fed up of these pampered rich people getting special treatment in situations like this. Every bodies life should be equally important and all these rich people running off to their second homes are just as bad spreading the virus everywhere but as per usual they think the rules don't apply to them.

Clavinova · 25/03/2020 12:45

South Korea licenced private testing centres (drive thrus) to keep up with demand - despite offering free tests elsewhere;

"When I got there, someone opened the car door for me," Koo Ji-young told ABC News after receiving his test results for a $140 fee."

If Prince Charles had paid for a private test he would have been criticised as well - 'no win' situation.

middleager · 25/03/2020 12:46

I've watched the Royal coverage in recent weeks and been aghast at the unnecessary gatherings and handshakes during this crisis.

The Hary and Meghan circus saw them everywhere.

Did the lead by example? Did they need to do so many public engagements putting themselved and others at risk?

Rhayader · 25/03/2020 12:47

I’m not sure if they have different criteria for the tests in Scotland.

In England they have started testing nhs workers now but it’s a slow process to ramp up. It’s not a matter of just “buying” the tests, they are in extremely short supply as every country in the world is trying to buy them and the components that make up the tests are also in very short supply.

Topseyt · 25/03/2020 12:47

Regardless of what you think of the royals, if course he needed to be tested. Not only had he been in contact with others who have since tested positive, but he is also potentially a superspreader because of his contact with other members of the public, at investitures and other events.

As many of those people he was definitely in contact with will have to be informed, as will his staff, who are now self-isolating in their homes. How are you to do that if he isn't tested?

I think it was the right decision. He isn't now carrying on regardless and adding to the spread. Steps have been taken.

The80sweregreat · 25/03/2020 12:48

Boris and co have probably been tested too no doubt.

Rhayader · 25/03/2020 12:50

@The80sweregreat

Unlikely because the tests don’t tend to work if you are asymptomatic as there is not enough virus in your system to be detected. Camila likely is positive but it just won’t show yet.

moondance19 · 25/03/2020 12:51

I’m more concerned about the huge amount of people he’s infected.

Clavinova · 25/03/2020 12:54

He was in contact with Albert of Monaco

Oh yes, at the WaterAid Summit, Kings Place, London N1 - of course people will want to trace the connection - just like they do in South Korea jasjas1973!
