How come Prince Charles gets a Covid test but front line NHS workers can't?

Prince charles has corona and, unsurprisingly him and Camilla have managed to have tests.....

You can pay for a test.

zombieapocalypseisnigh · 25/03/2020 11:05

Rich, wealthy, famous people get tested, didn't you know?

Even that cretin Weinstein got a test ... in prison!

LoveFameTragedy · 25/03/2020 11:06

If he met the criteria I cannot see the issue. I am no royalist but get a grip.

I have much more of an issue with people with pots of money but no symptoms getting tested.

You’re mad if you don’t see how it’s in everyone’s interests for him to be tested. If he dies, it will be a major logistical headache. There would be concerns about mass gatherings of mourners, about how to manage what would normally be a state funeral..

Well, no. If he dies he dies, and we will have to do without the state funeral etc. Desperate times mean we have to change our attitude.

Having said that, we need some well known people to be officially ill. It makes it more real, and brings home how important it is to follow the rules.

OldUnit · 25/03/2020 11:06

I don't begrudge ANYBODY a test tbh! Everyone should have access but I certainly don't begrudge Prince Charles one.

Makeitgoaway · 25/03/2020 11:06

More to the point, why is he spending his isolation at his second (third/fourth?) home in the Highlands? I thought that was a big no no.

I bear no hard feelings, wish him well etc etc but surely the Royals need to lead by example?

viques · 25/03/2020 11:06

If he dies would Andrew become heir apparent, or Anne as women can now be considered in the line of succession. Or would Wills still be in the running.

Deux · 25/03/2020 11:07

Well he is resident in Scotland right now and Scotland are doing more widespread testing.

OldUnit · 25/03/2020 11:07

William I expect.

DadDadDad · 25/03/2020 11:07

Even if you are vehemently anti-royalist, it doesn't take much imagination to realise that given our current constitution and the sympathies of most of the public, that if the Queen or the heir to the throne dies that is just going to add to the sense of crisis and be another distraction for government etc. Testing them seems sensible to me.

SnakePlant · 25/03/2020 11:07

To me the question isn’t why Charles has been tested but why more isn’t being done urgently to ensure NHS staff aren’t able to be tested so they can get back to work if they are clear.

BMW6 · 25/03/2020 11:08

OP are you outraged that Idris Elba was tested?

wheretonow123 · 25/03/2020 11:09

Ah come off it OP, you have been well answered here.

He is heir to the throne.

Absolutely no surprise that he was tested.

Direct your ire at overall planning, test levels, BJ's strategy but not Prince Charles test.

scoobiedoobiedoo · 25/03/2020 11:10

He was in contact with Prince Albert 10 days before Prince Albert tested positive for Corona that will be one of the main reasons he was tested.

Cornettoninja · 25/03/2020 11:10

So even if he meets the criteria for testing he shouldn’t get tested because a random grinch on the internet will get their knickers wedged up their arse? Have a word with yourself.

I’ve no doubt his isolation and illness will be far more comfortable than a lot of people’s but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be tested if he’s developed symptoms that mean anyone else would be.

The ICU nurse being told to go home and wait 14 days is the correct thing to do at the moment - a test isn’t going to change anything given her job it’s a very probable diagnosis and every one who has contact with her will know that. Not so much with PC.

Minutewaltz · 25/03/2020 11:11

Op why should Tom Hanks have been tested?

Aragog · 25/03/2020 11:11

Really?! You can't figure that one out for yourself?

Obviously being heir to the throne means he will be tested if showing symptoms.

What about the various celebrities who have had results back, even though they've said they were showing only mild symptoms? I didn't see your post about them.

Devlesko · 25/03/2020 11:11

Erm, he's our future King, what do you expect?
We are just proles, go to work or work at home.

Alialialiali · 25/03/2020 11:12

You can pay to have one for £375. He probably paid.

Redwinestillfine · 25/03/2020 11:12

William would be heir apparent. Then George, then Charlotte, then Louis, then Harry, then Archie....The women in the line of succession can't be backdated for Anne (but even if it could she'd still come after all the Cambridge's and Sussex's)

Lunde · 25/03/2020 11:13

It said in the statement that he met the criteria for testing in Aberdeen.

I think that anything less than intensive care would be treated at home by the RF

Imstillskanking · 25/03/2020 11:14

Maybe he met the testing criteria?

I know people like to say the royals do fuck all but realistically he will have been out and about meeting all sorts of people all over the place. If any of them are confirmed to have it and he now has symptoms he would definitely meet the testing criteria.

Surely you are pleased that we have identified someone who has the virus? That's good for everyone, surely? Or would you rather he continue to spread it to others whilst we were none the wiser?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 25/03/2020 11:15

He wasn’t tested because he is sir to the throne though, he was tested because he met the criteria for testing by NHS in Aberdeenshire.

itsgettingweird · 25/03/2020 11:15

Seriously?

Agree or not with having a monarchy.

But we have one and so the answer is pretty obvious!

viques · 25/03/2020 11:18

Thanks red wine. For one awful minute I thought we might get Groper Andy for our head Royal.

I had a little Google myself and apparently they go through every single direct descendent of the line before going to the next line of descent. As soon as Charles had children that kicked Andrews chances into the bushes.
