How come Prince Charles gets a Covid test but front line NHS workers can't?

Prince charles has corona and, unsurprisingly him and Camilla have managed to have tests.....

OP posts:
TheLadyAnneNeville · 25/03/2020 13:33

He’s Prince Charles. That’s it. We’re not.

amymel2016 · 25/03/2020 13:34

It’ll be a long 12 weeks for you OP if you’re getting bothered by this

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 13:35

Part of the reason he'll be tested is because they'll be frantically trying to pull together a plan of wtf they'll do if a royal dies during this outbreak.

The absolute last thing they want, or any of us need, is people pitching up to Buckingham Palace to lay flowers, or trying to catch a glimpse of a funeral - and people would do that. More so if it was the Queen, but also any of the high profile royals.

It would be the absolute last thing that the government need right now.

HowManyToes · 25/03/2020 13:38

Oh my gosh - imagine, treating royalty like... well, royalty 😮

I’m not a fan of the royals, but surely this isn’t in the least bit surprising?

Jocasta2018 · 25/03/2020 13:38

He saw the Queen on 12th March. I guess they tested her & Prince Philip pretty damn quick.

ladylunchalot · 25/03/2020 13:41

I don't begrudge him being tested but I do think it's shocking that NHS staff are not being tested. I'm in Scotland, work for NHS in a community setting and my boss has been off I'll with Corona symptoms since last Tuesday. She's practically begged to be tested but has been refused. So much for 25000 people supposed to being tested by now.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 25/03/2020 13:42

One more time proves the point of having a "royal". Absolutely none.

sewingsinger · 25/03/2020 13:42

This has made me realise how little we have heard from the royal family over the past week or so. Obviously I might be wrong/havent read anything but:

  • No offer from the huge Duchy of Cornwall estate of food donations to vulnerable groups/food banks
  • No offer of residences being used as needed by the state
  • No message to the nation, apart from the Queens message - why can't William do a delivery to the nation?

I wonder if there is any 'give', will they downsize when the country is in deep recession or even depression?

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 13:48

why can't William do a delivery to the nation?

William did the one for the National Emergencies Fund.

You'd have expected Charles to be the one that backed up the Queen's message, but this explains why he's been so quiet

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 25/03/2020 13:49

the royals are too busy unpacking and settling in their holiday palaces. Once they are safe and comfortable, expect a couple of patronising video messages telling us to be "good boys and good girls" and we are all in it together.

Just don't come near them, don't come near their properties, don't touch the funds they receive from the tax payer, and keep their ego as big as possible.

SunshineCake · 25/03/2020 13:50

Horrible post.

EverydayLife · 25/03/2020 13:52

The bbc news says he had the test on the NHS as he met the criteria.

GenxfeellikeaBoomer · 25/03/2020 13:52

He is 71, i wouldnt grudge him one! But im irish in ireland so nothing to do with me. Even so though, he is 71!
I hope he hadnt met up with the queen after he met albert?

alreadytaken · 25/03/2020 13:53

"Because he was in close contact with Prince Albert of Monaco who also tested positive.

He was displaying symptoms and is also in the high risk category. Of course he was tested."

This. He's 71, so high risk. He had symptoms that meant he went to hospital, he got the same tests anyone else would have done but was more likely to be sent home because he can be looked after well there. Of course he needed to be tested to avoid spreading this to a lot of other people.

Granof4 · 25/03/2020 13:54

What about don’t go to your second homes Stay in your main residence?
They are worse than the camper van and second home owners spreading the virus to remote areas with less NHS facilities.
Disgusting behaviour?

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 13:58

@GenxfeellikeaBoomer He saw the Queen "briefly" two days after he met with Prince Albert.

This may also be why this story has come out, and why he would have been tested quickly.

If the Queen dies people will flock to Buckingham Palace to lay flowers. They will. Regardless of quarantine and sensibilities people will do that. Sections of the government will be shitting themselves over that very possibility. They'll likely also do it if any high profile royal was to die, but the Queen would be the biggest logistical headache for the government

Granof4 · 25/03/2020 13:58

Shame on both of them !
Arrives one day symptoms and test the next. Oh yes ?

Those tests would have been better used on a front line NHS worker.

ICouldHaveBeenAContender · 25/03/2020 14:01

Yes the testing criteria are different in Scotland. You don't have to already be hospitalised.

For the nitpickers: when PC becomes king, he will be king of more than just England!

Atleastthedoglovesme · 25/03/2020 14:04

I know right...Hmm

Who does he think he is....royalty or something?

Oh, wait...Wink

AnotherEmma · 25/03/2020 14:07

Because there's one of him and millions of them?!
Of course NHS workers should be tested but it seems they don't have enough tests.
Of course people like him will be able to get a test.
In case you haven't noticed we live in a capitalist state with a monarchy...
Funny how no one seems to care about equality and socialism until there is a serious threat like this!

YgritteSnow · 25/03/2020 14:09

Just told my teen that PC has been diagnosed with corona virus. He said "well hope he's ok, I think we'd all have preferred it if Andrew got it though wouldn't we?"

He's autistic and very pragmatic but it did make me laugh Grin

Atleastthedoglovesme · 25/03/2020 14:12

@YgritteSnow not much makes he laugh these days...this did Grin

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 25/03/2020 14:16

Who does he think he is....royalty or something?
so what? what does being royalty means? it's 2020, they have no role, no value any more than the actors from Eastenders.

heartsonacake · 25/03/2020 14:20

so what? what does being royalty means? it's 2020, they have no role, no value any more than the actors from Eastenders.

JustInCaseCakeHappens If you genuinely believe that then you are embarrassingly ignorant and need to educate yourself before you say that to someone in real life and their opinion of you is downgraded forever.

You can believe there shouldn’t be a monarchy, you can believe they shouldn’t be as important as they are, but the fact is they are of great value to the UK and pretending they aren’t or wishing they weren’t doesn’t change that.

Chipperfish · 25/03/2020 14:26

So how come Charlie boy, after known exposure gets to travel (with his entourage who are probably also at risk of exposure) to his holiday cottage and be a potential burden to the more limited NHS services up in Grampian while the rest of us plebs get told to stay at home?
