Is anyone in a job where they are not concerned about it’s future?

Just curious really.
What jobs are going to experience relatively little interruption or at least be assured of a role to return to...
NHS staff (thank you thank you)
Teachers/other school staff (thank you also)
People working for supermarkets? (Thank you too!)
Manufacturers of toilet paper???

What industries are going to fare best through this?

DH is in the entertainment industry so we’re probably screwed.

Well I’m a nurse so I think I’m safe. However DH found out by watching the news this morning that he’s lost his job as all stores he works for are closing. Apparently not related to covid but I think covid has deffo rushed it along.

cliffdiver · 17/03/2020 19:51

DH works for a (large global) healthcare insurance company.

He will probably be okay.

Naiceandaslice · 17/03/2020 19:51

I work in Electrical distribution so my job will be safe. I’m sorry to hear about your DH Flowers

NotQuiteUsual · 17/03/2020 19:51

Dh works in electronics manufactoring. His work hasn't slowed and shows no signs of it. It's been busier if anything. Which is a big relief for now.

Bargebill19 · 17/03/2020 19:52

Care work. Hgv food distribution

BrexpatInSwitzerland · 17/03/2020 19:52

I'm in the tech industry.

Not worried in the slightest about ot's long-term prospects.

That doesn't mean I'm not worried, I might be made redundant from the joob I have at present.

But my current worst-case projection sees me losing my job and having to wait a few months until I can get a new one. Given salaries in my sector and local unemployment benefit calculations, I'd be perfectly fine (albeit devastated).

UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool · 17/03/2020 19:52

My colleagues in insolvency

Nofoolfornoone · 17/03/2020 19:52

I’m in nhs. Big big job security . However, downside, not being treated very well during this crisis. I’m hoping not all nhs employers are like mine

Evilcat · 17/03/2020 19:52

Insolvency practitioners:(

Steamedtreaclesponge · 17/03/2020 19:53

I'm a tutor working on Skype - things will be getting busier and busier for me as kids get pulled out of school.

soakedat3 · 17/03/2020 19:53

DH works in IT and finance. He will probably be ok as it can be done remotely. I really feel for those small businesses who must be so worried just now. :(

BrexpatInSwitzerland · 17/03/2020 19:53

... excuse typos. On phone.

EggysMom · 17/03/2020 19:53

Civil service.

BlueGheko · 17/03/2020 19:54

Veterinary medicine, pretty safe.

Lazypuppy · 17/03/2020 19:54

Civil service is secure which i'm thankful for

Tableclothing · 17/03/2020 19:54

I work with anxious young people. Can't see demand reducing any time soon.

OakTreeOwl · 17/03/2020 19:54

I'm a journalist. I can't remember a busier time for us. And it's more important than ever to be responsible and accurate, and try to get news and health information to the people who need it. I think it will probably improve the trade in general.

Glassio · 17/03/2020 19:55

Housing association

MadisonMontgomery · 17/03/2020 19:55

GP surgery. Currently rushed off our feet and even if we go to lockdown I presume we will continue to be open.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/03/2020 19:55

Paediatric nurse. So not worried.

PureAlchemy · 17/03/2020 19:55

Jobs doing deliveries to people’s homes? Like Royal Mail, Parcelforce and so on.

I’m guessing that there’s going to be more internet shopping than usual. At least from customers who still have jobs themselves.

And thinking about the restaurant / cafe sector, restaurants / takeaways that deliver food - or have drive thrus - are probably going to fare the best out of that sector.

blancheduboiss · 17/03/2020 19:55

DP is in the RAF, so thankfully, I think we’re safe

Capricornandproud · 17/03/2020 19:55

I’m a singer.

Or was, should I say.

Tanfastic · 17/03/2020 19:56

NHS admin here. Some colleagues are in self-isolation. I've been off for a few days so not sure what is happening when I go back...I think my job is fairly safe, they'll just be glad I'm in!

Barney77 · 17/03/2020 19:56

Intensive care and anaesthetics doctor. No worries about job security but a fair few other things I am concerned about.
