Is anyone in a job where they are not concerned about it’s future?

Just curious really.
What jobs are going to experience relatively little interruption or at least be assured of a role to return to...
NHS staff (thank you thank you)
Teachers/other school staff (thank you also)
People working for supermarkets? (Thank you too!)
Manufacturers of toilet paper???

What industries are going to fare best through this?

DH is in the entertainment industry so we’re probably screwed.

Teacher, I think my job’s safe but when I think about the potential impact on this year and next year I have a panic attack!

JamMakingWannaBe · 17/03/2020 20:28

I work in the waste sector. Collectors jobs, and drivers, pretty secure. Street sweeping and litter bin emptying will be cut right back. The Council tips will probably stay open- for now.
Big energy-from-waste plant operators pretty secure. Smaller family run processors of single waste streams not so.

NHS/safeguarding, feeling very fortunate right now for a change

CatherineCawood · 17/03/2020 20:28

SEN training, consultancy services and associated bits. Schools close and we are stuffed.

Divorce lawyers...

Amen to this. The jobs market will be utterly transformed as more of us stick with our safe, boring jobs.

Agree - I bet the whole motto of "follow your dreams, become a travel Instagrammer" will die right down after this, everybody will want to work for the civil service!

I'm NHS and dp is in a university. Never have I been more relieved to be public sector salaried. Otoh, I'm working longer days, never known stress like it, and just hoping that I'm able to help and make things better for some people.

Nofoolfornoone · 17/03/2020 20:29

@BlimeyCalmDown are you currently being asked to move to front line work?

CandleFlames · 17/03/2020 20:29

I’m a journalist who works from home anyway. Currently on maternity leave. Think I’m safe.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/03/2020 20:29

I train student nurses. Nurses will always need training.
Unless society totally breaks down.

WaitingForEgg · 17/03/2020 20:30

Doctor. Worried but not about job loss

Lily193 · 17/03/2020 20:31

Niche healthcare sector. Currently huge demand in my field and don't see things changing.

OhTheRoses · 17/03/2020 20:31

HR I'll be the last one left to turn out the lights :(

BadEyeBri · 17/03/2020 20:32

Vet. I can always be a vet but I'm worried about what will happen to animal welfare and how the practice will continue to pay wages/stay open if we have to close/reduce hours for a significant time Sad

KEG05 · 17/03/2020 20:32

I’m a Nurse so not worried for myself but my partner works offshore and he’s just been told there will be job losses. 😔.

Mymymycorona · 17/03/2020 20:33

NHS . My job is just getting busier and busier, and evolving.

Joker0fGotham · 17/03/2020 20:34

NHS recruitment - It’s not looking good, understandably no one is recruiting at this time

FunnysInLaJardin · 17/03/2020 20:35

law, specifically conveyancing. We are all worried we could lose our jobs and are thinking back to 2008 when lots of us did Sad

elephantfeet · 17/03/2020 20:35

Children's social worker. I don't think my job is going anywhere just yet.

Mads123 · 17/03/2020 20:35

I work in a pharmacy so very fortunate to have job security but it has been manic.

1300cakes · 17/03/2020 20:35

I work in health, so my job is safe although i won't be.

A supermarket chain in my country just announced they are hiring 5000 new workers.

namechanger00 · 17/03/2020 20:35

Pharmacy

coronamoana · 17/03/2020 20:37

DB is in a big law firm (1bn plus revenue) & he's a little anxious.

rosegoldivy · 17/03/2020 20:37

I'm civil service and in a role that is secure. Although on mat leave and due back in 4 weeks

DH is self employed for courrier firm like parcel force. So I expect his job will increase in demand if everyone is home ordering online but worried about him still out working as he is one of the more vulnerable groups so.... 🤷‍♀️ He states he's carrying on working for now

bloodywhitecat · 17/03/2020 20:37

Foster parent (mainly for addicted babies), sadly I think I will be needed for a while yet.
