Is anyone in a job where they are not concerned about it’s future?

Just curious really.
What jobs are going to experience relatively little interruption or at least be assured of a role to return to...
NHS staff (thank you thank you)
Teachers/other school staff (thank you also)
People working for supermarkets? (Thank you too!)
Manufacturers of toilet paper???

What industries are going to fare best through this?

DH is in the entertainment industry so we’re probably screwed.

Foster Carer (social distancing ourselves to protect)

M2B19 · 19/03/2020 15:38

I work for the NHS so I think I’ll be fine once I return from maternity leave 😊

HemlockStarglimmer · 19/03/2020 22:50

Yesterday I would have said my job was safe. I'm a lowly shop assistant for a well established national chain of clothing retailers. Today half of my immediate colleagues have been made redundant 😭

AnyFucker · 19/03/2020 22:53

My job will remain

I will be redeployed during the crisis into high risk areas though (critical care) so my own health will possibly be impacted

m0therofdragons · 19/03/2020 22:55

NHS Hospital communications. I think my job is safe and seems fairly essential right now. Very small team so trying to hold it together but am exhausted. This weekend I need to switch off and spend time with my children because the next few weeks will be long.

slinkysaluki · 19/03/2020 23:00

NHS worker so think my job is safe

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 19/03/2020 23:08

Domestic abuse worker. Business is likely to be booming Sad

wizzywig · 19/03/2020 23:36

Hi @Otterses! Me too, crazy times!

Otterses · 20/03/2020 06:14

@wizzywig

I'm not sure if I'm happy or distressed to see proper confirmation that probation is on the key worker list! I think I optimistically thought we may be forgotten about Grin

Yeah. I think these are going to be some really challenging times, really challenging shitty times. Probably with some major disasters along the way.

Indeed , the only cloud is that my ex left the country last year , I can’t even contemplate going through this with him here
Stressing , hogging TV , hogging sofa , shouting , shouting , 😐

wizzywig · 20/03/2020 09:18

@Thisisworsethananticpated whoop whoop!! Silver lining and all that

Onescaredmuma · 20/03/2020 15:41

DH is a police officer so probably safe. However obviously no chance of working from home which as our son is higher risk is a bit scary everytime he goes to work he could bring something back.

And my manager handed in her notice six weeks ago to retire (early). She was utterly bemused when I asked if she thought she could still leave when she plans to in another month. With calls for nurses and Drs to come out of retirement surely she won't be allowed to swan off into the sunset?

Work in telecommunications for a British company, they’re showing generous and supportive measures. Have volunteered to be placed where needed. My job feels secure and suddenly more important

tenstorey · 20/03/2020 22:52

I work in retail I am not sure if my job is safe, it never has been to be honest. I've never felt secure in a job.

ellanwood · 22/03/2020 08:13

@FannyCann - he is to people in full time permanent employment. But a vast number of people are on zero hours and are self-employed. Nothing for us.

FannyCann · 22/03/2020 08:29

@ellanwood There are so many self employed and zero hours contract workers and all must be distraught with worry and they all have my sympathy.

I apologise, I posted a poor taste little joke after Wine

monkeytennis97 · 22/03/2020 08:47

All the jobs people didn't really want to do before;

NHS
Teaching
Care work

DH and I are both teachers. I expect there will be an upsurge of people want to join after this.

ellanwood · 22/03/2020 10:01

@FannyCann - I think what he has done is excellent, but as is always the case, the most vulnerable and poor are overlooked. And the people who are self-sufficient and get nothing from the government are also overlooked.
