Is anyone in a job where they are not concerned about it’s future?

Just curious really.
What jobs are going to experience relatively little interruption or at least be assured of a role to return to...
NHS staff (thank you thank you)
Teachers/other school staff (thank you also)
People working for supermarkets? (Thank you too!)
Manufacturers of toilet paper???

What industries are going to fare best through this?

DH is in the entertainment industry so we’re probably screwed.

I think very few industries will be completely safe but emergency workers, nhs frontline & supermarket staff are likely fine.

Shinyfloors · 17/03/2020 20:08

I clean public toilets...they'll stay open surely

AnyOldSpartabix · 17/03/2020 20:08

I work in food safety, so I can’t work from home (wish I could) but on the upside, my job is unlikely to disappear.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 17/03/2020 20:08

UC for disability, think that's relatively safe. Ish.

coronamoana · 17/03/2020 20:08

& teachers

MadameJosephine · 17/03/2020 20:09

Midwife, expecting to be kept very busy and even more so 9 months after everyone self isolating!

cyclingmad · 17/03/2020 20:09

I know a friend in London who works in transport they are worried as people wont be using transport so much and money drives up. They are not officially civil service either so who knows

NoemieNioche · 17/03/2020 20:10

Medical regulation. We'll be doing things differently, but they'll still need to be done.

coronamoana · 17/03/2020 20:10

I'm a civil servant but don't feel bullet proof as the economy will be suffering for a long time so cuts may be in the future.

Alwaystwomagpies · 17/03/2020 20:11

Am a doctor
More work than I can shake a stick at for the foreseeable

CatBatCat · 17/03/2020 20:11

Specialist training company. Our company is also fortunate as we all work remotely from home. Work hasn't been interrupted and doesn't look like it will slow down.

Nquartz · 17/03/2020 20:11

DH in marketing, feels confident he'll be ok, working from home indefinitely.

I work in buying for a pharmacy chain. Not in anything useful at the moment but even on lock down we'll do ok luckily.

Few friends who are self employed/freelance/events so really feel their pain

TheGriffle · 17/03/2020 20:11

I work in social housing dealing with housing applications so think we’ll be fine. Dh works in environmental health for a council so will hopefully also be ok if we can weather any school closures.

juggler82 · 17/03/2020 20:11

University, we closed today and have been told we’ll be paid for the duration. Expected to at least try and work from home - easier for some than others depending on job.

ImNotShpanishImEgyptshun · 17/03/2020 20:12

Software development in insurance. The worse things get, the better it seems to be for us. DH is software development in point of sale software. It's not looking great for him right now.

FightingFiles · 17/03/2020 20:12

I'm a nurse and partner is a teacher. However, we've just taken in an extra teenager, who was afraid and parents weren't /aren't taking this seriously.

We already have two, all of them have lost their jobs, so we are in a really good position, but belts will be tightened.

MinesaBottle · 17/03/2020 20:13

Public transport; we’ve supposedly got enough money to keep us going despite the drop in ridership, but we’ll see - nothing is ever set in stone!

FrenchyQ · 17/03/2020 20:13

I work in a lab that provides medical supplies for hospitals etc, so I think I'll be safe

actiongirl1978 · 17/03/2020 20:13

Exams Officer.

They will need me back eventually!

coronamoana · 17/03/2020 20:13

I don't see why wfh automatically means job will be safe. Businesses need to have work coming in order for people to have work to do at home. Who will be moving house for example?
People will be poorer after this & have less to spend.

IRememberSoIDo · 17/03/2020 20:13

Dh and I are both ok as both work in a University. I'm permanent, he's on a contact but hopefully it will be renewed as the end date is far enough away. Two of my sisters are very concerned though as both self employed.

ThisIsMyStory1 · 17/03/2020 20:14

Civil servant 🙋🏻‍♀️

AllPointsNorth · 17/03/2020 20:14

Trades with a specific skill set should be ok. I’m thinking plumbing, electricians etc.Unfortunately, a lot of my friends are musicians and self-employed crafters.

Holdmenow · 17/03/2020 20:14

I’m a Teacher so I’m ok. Dh works in a type of engineering and we’re 99% all will be fine there. We are both home on full pay at the moment. Which is great, we are very lucky!

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 17/03/2020 20:15

It's become clear that sadly, the people who've had the courage to follow their passion and / or go it alone will suffer the most. I've been wanting to get out of teaching for a long time but I'm now kind of grateful I never found a way.
