Just that really. I understand theirs a lot of suggesting going on but will they officially make people stay in or take responsibility?

Yes this weekend

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 18/03/2020 22:49

@Oakmaiden he is about 600 years of age so one day the rumour will be true!

granadagirl · 18/03/2020 22:51

I’ve heard it’s lockdown from fri, but my source is London so don’t know if it’s just there or whole of England
Tomorrow they are confirming lockdown at 5.30

Oakmaiden · 18/03/2020 22:51

I know one day it will - but why is there this suspicion that for some reason it will be "covered up" when it happens?

I expect to hear about it when the palace announce it - probably a few hours after it happens.

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 18/03/2020 22:58

I have sources within Parliament

Was molly Sugden your bridesmaid?

elfies · 18/03/2020 23:18

If the government make this law , then they'll have to honour the promises they have made.
Saying we have X million pounds set aside for this, is NOT the same as commiting to actually spend it

CanIHaveThat · 18/03/2020 23:35

Of course lock down is going to be on Friday.
They told us about school closures today so essential workers can arrange childcare.
My manager (nhs) handed me a form to fill in about childcare arrangements before I even left work today.

Wauden · 18/03/2020 23:43

'I have sources within Parliament.' That would be HP sauce.

December2019 · 18/03/2020 23:47

Does anybody know how long we are likely to be on lockdown for?
I've managed to get 3 tins of baby formula but I don't want to go out and get more and prevent some other poor parent from feeding their baby if I already have 3

Butterymuffin · 19/03/2020 00:00

Tomorrow they are confirming lockdown at 5.30

So to go into effect 24 hours later? It'll be like The Purge.

Tiffinity13 · 19/03/2020 00:36

I hope so. The sooner, the better. That way people will stop crowding the shops, stockpiling food and acting like selfish arseholes. The pictures on the telly of deserted areas are a bad representation of small shopping high streets. Everyone carrying on as normal, crowding buses and spreading their germs. We need to be on lockdown in London for everyone's safety.

caringcarer · 19/03/2020 00:38

Boris asked nicely for people to be responsible. Many people have listened and are following advice carefully but some are not. I think the time has come for Boris to order all pubs, restaurants, cinemas, gyms, leisure centres, swimming pools, theatres and non essential shops to close. The panic buying is awful. There needs to be coupons like in the war where items are rationed so all can have access to them. I popped into Lydl to buy a loaf of bread and there was none left so I got some wraps. The man in front of me had two trollys full. When I got to be served the worker said to me it made him feel sick when people were so greedy. He said he does not get paid until end of month and feared there would be little left as less stock coming in and some staff off self isolating. London needs to into lockdown by weekend and Birmingham and other large cities shortly after. I am sure there will be people who put their parents at risk by asking them to lòok after grandchildren now schools are out. Sunak needs to be bold and dsay government will pay 50% of salary if a person is off work due to Covid19 or self isolating. Sick pay is so low no family could manage to buy food even on that amount. Not everyone has savings to rely upon.

TheLittleDogLaughed · 19/03/2020 05:33

I’m in London. We have to go into lockdown. I only hope it’s not too late.

Egghead68 · 19/03/2020 05:46

Laura Kuenssburg said on the Coronavirus Newscast last night that there is a reason Boris Johnson mentioned a lockdown repeatedly in his press conference yesterday. She said that there is a lot of chatter about this in Westminster.

Dongdingdong · 19/03/2020 05:46

There are a significant number of fit and healthy 30-70 year olds who have a high survival rate if they can go on respirators.

There’s a high survival rate within this age group without the need for respirators. The vast majority of people who contract this thing will recover at home with no need for any medical assistance at all. Please, stop being alarmist and think before you post.

elfies · 19/03/2020 08:46

I feel sad for the number of people on lockdown who HAVE to go out .They're not wandering the streets and shops for the sheer fun of it , but trying desperately to stock up with basic necessities so that they can manage to get through lockdown . Imagine a pensioner living alone in a village with no shop . Two buses a day , getting to the shops when stock has gone. trailing from shop to shop looking for bread potatoes and flour . How do you obtain three months medication in advance , how do you carry all this on one shopping trip .

winniestone37 · 19/03/2020 08:47

@janus it’s not confusing - don’t go out unless you have too.

alloutoffucks · 19/03/2020 08:51

@elfies You can still go out for food. And I think lock down when enforced will make getting food easier.

alloutoffucks · 19/03/2020 08:53

@caringcarer We have had to rely on sick pay when I have been ill longer term. That is the reality for some.
And 50% of pay could still be an enormous wage. A basic amount yes. But if you are well paid you also need to save for emergencies.

TheLittleDogLaughed · 19/03/2020 09:13

elfies supermarkets and pharmacies should still be open. Lockdown will mean virtually nobody out so therefore much safer for a pensioner.

CountryGirl1234 · 19/03/2020 10:02

Yes in about a week if not sooner

ralfeesmum · 19/03/2020 10:39

Like to bet that Boris (or at least his Puppetmaster Dominic Cummings) will use the crisis to introduce Emergency Powers which will allow Them to order Us around to their hearts content?

1984, here it comes.

Janus · 19/03/2020 10:40

@winniestone37 thanks for that but my comment was a couple days ago, we have moved in a lot further in 48 hours, my life is already totally different from Tuesday 😢

Janus · 19/03/2020 10:42

And just for the record I have not gone anywhere this week except the supermarket and school run, I’m not one of the idiots that has gone to the pub etc. I get it/got it, a lot of people needed to be TOLD.

PlomBear · 19/03/2020 10:42

They just said on This Morning that in lockdown, key workers will be going to work, you can go out for medical appointments and to get food / medicine. It’s really not a frightening situation. There won’t be a soldier at the end of every street and a tank!!
