Just that really. I understand theirs a lot of suggesting going on but will they officially make people stay in or take responsibility?

I was quite proud of one tank does not a lockdown make.

I mean I sort of agree with you, that some parts of the country (London?) will be in lockdown sooner rather than later. But I don't necessarily think military manoeuvres are certain evidence of that. There are lots of things the army could be doing. (Shutting ports??? Helping move food and medical supplies?)

I can't really envisage them driving a tank up the Strand to enforce lockdown, that's all...

cheninblanc · 18/03/2020 20:26

I think London by Friday. But how does that work, I work nhs in London, sd in London. Can I go to work, can my sd visit?

Oakmaiden · 18/03/2020 20:26

chenin - I would guess yes to the first and no to the second.

SwerfandTurf · 18/03/2020 20:29

Bearlover you are either a troll or deeply gullible. Some of those photos are YEARS old and taken in Russia! They are very well-known fakes. The photo of the tanks driving on the right hand side of a European motorway has been all over fact-checking and debunking sites for yonks now. There is no video, and those fake/old photos are all over Twitter being spread by trolls and gullible idiots.

Someone even (badly) photoshopped the word "Covid-19 isolation unit" onto an old photo of an army truck and it's gone viral on Twitter even though the letters were clearly pasted on using a text editor app.

HebeMumsnet · 18/03/2020 20:41

Evening, all. We've deleted a few posts on this thread that we think included 'fake news'. We're sure they were posted with the best of intentions but we don't want to terrify folk needlessly.

Could we just ask everyone to think really carefully about what they post and check sources thoroughly. There's an awful lot of absolute nonsense doing the rounds, as there always is in a crisis and we want to try not to feed it if possible.

Thanks for your help with this, and stay well and sensible, everyone.

yellowpolkadots101 · 18/03/2020 20:44

Fallonuk is this for the whole of the UK?

Rachel709 · 18/03/2020 20:46

I hope so. Government is dragging its feet.

Windyone · 18/03/2020 20:52

@Bearlover16. What sources do you have? As someone has pointed out these pictures are nonsense. I think you need a hobby rather than posting fake news

Alastria · 18/03/2020 21:28

From what I've seen on Facebook, bearing in mind my partner and I have a nationwide community of people in our Facebook groups, there has been a lot of movement from the army in recent days, particularly on the outskirts of the larger cities, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool etc. I suspect a lockdown will come into effect in the coming weeks in the cities as people are more tightly packed there.
Honestly what is going on with people baffles me because all it takes really is a bit of common sense to avoid these things but clearly things like taking the kids to soft play is totally nonsensical....Confused

Alastria · 18/03/2020 21:29

Obviously this is Facebook news so has to be taken with a pinch of salt 😂Grin

Beesisabuzzin · 18/03/2020 21:36

I think the government is breaking us in gently so we all get used to the idea. Given what's happening in the rest of Europe I really wouldn't be surprised if we're in lockdown Friday night, Monday at latest.

Lockdown doesn't mean you can't go to work.

Tubs11 · 18/03/2020 21:47

yes and I reckon it will be next Friday, its days not weeks for us to get this right

shellyandlayla · 18/03/2020 21:58

Yes, I think it will be inevitable. I'm in France and this is our second day of "proper" lockdown, as in not allowed to leave the house at all, except for essential food or medical help, and you need a signed an dated authority and your passport. Armed police and the army are enforcing it. I am actually glad that it's been enforced here. Though it is day 2. By day 45 my garden will be tidy but I might not be quite so enthusiastic. I am not a natural homeschooler!

Wauden · 18/03/2020 22:18

Nobody instituted lockdown when the plague hit, but it went away. There was. Whole villages were barred from any movements in and o people were shut up in their houses if there was a case of the plague in their house and not allowed to leave. They thought that it was carried on the air, though.

Wauden · 18/03/2020 22:19

... movements in and out

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 18/03/2020 22:25

Does that mean you can't travel from city to city? I'm planning to go up to my mum's for several months so she can look after DS while I wfh

Violetparis · 18/03/2020 22:32

I think we will go into a lockdown, the NHS can't cope and people are going to die.

CorianderLord · 18/03/2020 22:34

I think London will lockdown on Friday after an announcement Thursday evening

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 18/03/2020 22:34

Some Tommy Robinson type called Jason Nota on Facebook is claiming this to be the case. Also has mentioned the rumour about Prince Phillip. Lots of 'are cuntry' type people devoid of critical thought are sharing this despite him not stating where his sources are from. He also looks drugged up

Tonyaster · 18/03/2020 22:35

Yes coriander i am pretty sure that will happen. Good.

Tonyaster · 18/03/2020 22:36

The Tommy Robinson type is correct.

Please don't come down to the south west, we don't want you.

Barney60 · 18/03/2020 22:38

yes and think it will be will be soon.

Oakmaiden · 18/03/2020 22:40

Poor old Prince Phillip - how many times has his demise been anticipated? It must feel fairly shitty...
