Just that really. I understand theirs a lot of suggesting going on but will they officially make people stay in or take responsibility?

i kinda of get why they didn't close schools earlier now

jojo1717 · 18/03/2020 17:58

Check the News: schools will shut on Friday. The end of the quiet before the storm.

EmbarrassedMum1 · 18/03/2020 17:58

My husband seems to think we will be on partial lockdown until September. I'm not so sure, everything is changing every day. If he's right it's going to be a longgg year!.

DaphneduWarrior · 18/03/2020 17:59

I’m in London. Secondary school at the end of my road is still open, supermarkets and cafes are rammed, pubs, hairdressers, small shops - all open. We have to go into lockdown as soon as possible because people can’t be trusted to do the right thing.

granadagirl · 18/03/2020 18:00

Watch the news on fri
Lockdown 15 days

beeline · 18/03/2020 18:00

The Really selfish people have been the greedy competitive individuals who have crammed half the supermarket into their garage/s, and left bewildered older shoppers out today staring at Empty Shelves.

Unbelievable

meggybug · 18/03/2020 18:01

If people are saying they're unclear on the advice about social distancing then they're idiots...it's been very clear - no non-essential social contact (this is entirely different to working from home point before anyone jumps on me). People who are continuing as if nothing has changed are selfish. It's not about them as individuals, if they want to risk their own lives fine but they are risking others and risking the critical NHS capacity. It any of my friends or family were doing it we'd be having a big row!

Nettie1964 · 18/03/2020 18:04

I am from the UK but live in Ireland we are on lockdown here. Every one seems to be amazingly cooperative about obeying the rules. Everything apart from food shops banks and pharmacies seem to be closed voluntarily.

beeline · 18/03/2020 18:04

Agree, shutting schools not good.
But I guess only a wk or two to Easter hols anyway. GCSE’s worrying, but more time to study I guess.

Abc234 · 18/03/2020 18:13

Think it will come to lockdown as one of the mums said just go to work then home I work on mental health hospital and have no option but to go to work .shame for people with no child care my son Is older .stay safe everyone and lisen to the guidance .pissed off at people not leaving foods and essentials for others .

nicaisle · 18/03/2020 18:16

Wow, so many people actually begging for the Government to take away their freedoms and human rights.
Every day thousands of people die from cancer and car accidents, drug abuse and alcoholism, ordinary colds and flu and no-one says boo. An illness which the vast, vast majority of us will survive has everyone championing for marshall law.
So sad for the state of humanity right now.

Bellesboo2 · 18/03/2020 18:17

I agree that shutting schools was the correct move. But I'm worried about my job and what that holds for me. My job is between school hours, and my only childcare is my MIL who is social distancing, and staying indoors. I understand her decision, shes in her 70s and needs to put herself first. I feel like I'll be out of a job, my workplace so far has nothing in place, and I'm worried.

jany70 · 18/03/2020 18:28

I am all in favour of a lock down, I think its the only way forward. I have just got back from town, and there was a group of ten teenagers in the undercover car park, generally being annoying, skateboarding and playing football. My Husband is staying at home and not going out. As sensible older people have been advised to do, now they are closing schools, I think the virus rate wills soar.

Titsalenabumsquash · 18/03/2020 18:30

I personally think that cars could possibly go street to street with loud speakers advising everyone to stay indoors until told otherwise. We could possibly also see the army on the streets enforcing curfews. It might seem drastic but drastic measures will need to be enforced in order to keep people safe and well. The ramifications of this could be catastrophic to the whole of the UK. If we can all do a small bit to help others and our own then as a nation we can come through it. It's a shame they can't organise helicopters to fly above the streets and houses spraying like they do crops. Just my personal thoughts mind, not meaning to scaremonger at all but these are unpresidented times we find ourselves in. Please keep safe and well MN's look after your families and neighbours.

Chickoletta · 18/03/2020 18:53

@nicaisle What about those who don’t survive? Are they just collateral damage? I’m 7 weeks pregnant and scared shitless by other people’s thoughtlessness.
And it’s martial law, not Marshall lake, by the way.

Chickoletta · 18/03/2020 18:54

*marshall law

Oscarsdaddy · 18/03/2020 18:54

I think it will be announced by the end of the week that London will go lockdown from early next week

If you think the shops are bad now you’ll see the absolute worst in people when it gets announced ..... this is just the beginning

ajandjjmum · 18/03/2020 19:00

I know that no-one can be sure (unless they have inside info!), but what will lockdown in London mean.

Will people still be able to work, buy food, drive, or is it literally you do not put your nose outside your front door?

Michelleoftheresistance · 18/03/2020 19:03

No country in lockdown is preventing people going outside to get food, the aim would be to prevent people going out unnecessarily.

Dramadrama · 18/03/2020 19:06

I’m glad it’s unpresidented. He doesn’t seem to help.

Lua · 18/03/2020 19:20

People that keep saying mortality rate is low: Are you happy to be entubated? or separated and scared from your family while in ICU in themiddle of this crisis?

Have you looked at the proportion of people with the virus that requires hospitalization?

Please inform yourself.....

Tonyaster · 18/03/2020 19:34

And that helps how lua?

Avoiding mumsnet is probably the best thing we can all do for our mental health

Windyone · 18/03/2020 19:35

Those saying “lockdown on Friday” where are you getting this information from?

ellyeth · 18/03/2020 19:39

I'm not sure we're getting the full picture.

My understanding is that the figures shown of people who have or have had the virus relate to more serious cases of people who have sought treatment/are being treated in hospital. I now know of at least eight people who have got the virus or are recovering from it (older people too) but, as far as I know, they won't be recorded in the figures because they have experienced unpleasant but relatively manageable symptoms which they dealt with by means of self-isolation at home.

If the recovered "self isolators" are not being included in the figures, it seems to me that the death figures will seem much more alarming than perhaps is the reality.

Obviously, people with chronic conditions or acute illnesses are at much higher risk and need to be in as strict isolation as is feasible.
