Just that really. I understand theirs a lot of suggesting going on but will they officially make people stay in or take responsibility?

Yes.
I live in Liverpool and have seen videos from St Patrick's night last night and concert Square is absolutely rammed full of drinkers all squished together. No one is listening or taking it seriously.

willdoitinaminute · 18/03/2020 09:48

I think we will all have to endure mental health issues under lockdown. But if people insist on flouting the rules under a state of emergency then they will have to suffer the consequences.
As a HCP we are receiving alarming information daily from the NHS and colleagues both home and abroad. This isn’t just a serious disease of the elderly. Keeping the over 70s out of critical care is the aim because they are less likely to survive than the under 70s.
There are a significant number of fit and healthy 30-70 year olds who have a high survival rate if they can go on respirators. So isolating the elderly is the only way to guarantee these people get the correct treatment. We are not just trying to prevent the elderly dying we are trying to stop them blocking ICU beds for months on end.

I live in Bracknell. It is significantly quieter here both in town centre, cars on road, people walking their dogs. Supermarkets yes busy but definitely a slow down imo

In France they were meant to socially distance but on Sunday they were all side by side in parks sunbathing in the nice weather so Macron realised they were not taking it seriously hence lockdown. I'd rather everyone was sensible to avoid one but I cannot see us escaping it actually. I wonder if they are introducing changes gradually to get us all used to the idea rather than a change overnight - softening us up. Who knows.

Tonyaster · 18/03/2020 09:55

Italy & Spain didn’t find closing schools helped; it contributed to the spread in both countries. The same would happen here, probably worse. The people locally who have taken their kids out of school are taking them to parks, to soft play, the cinema. The gym and supermarket were rammed yesterday and the gym crèche was full

Saw a group of teens today waiting for the bus into town. All the shops in town are full of teenagers.

Zaphodsotherhead · 18/03/2020 09:58

Very rural here, small market towns that most people would call villages, large elderly population. People are still going about their business - shop I work in is rammed, I keep getting called for extra shifts!

I can run the country lanes and bridleways for a couple of hours at a time and only be passed by two cars and not see anyone walking. But then, lambing has started, which is keeping a lot of people busy and out of town/off the roads!

YukoandHiro · 18/03/2020 09:58

Quite right @willdoitinaminute

rabbitsnose · 18/03/2020 11:56

I went to the park this morning and had to leave because it was full of people!
As far as I can tell, no one is following the rules and it's making me cross!

Tonyaster · 18/03/2020 12:00

You aren't either if you went to the park!

coronamoana · 18/03/2020 12:01

The irony!

HeronLanyon · 18/03/2020 12:05

If we have no symptoms we have been told specifically we are able to eg go for a walk as long as we are not in close proximity to others. I went to a local square earlier and sat on a bench for a bit then walked home. Then sanitized etc. I waved at neighbour across the street and said hello to a dog.
I am not in any heightened risk category nor do I have symptoms.
I am scrupulously not travelling mingling unnecessary anything.

HeronLanyon · 18/03/2020 12:07

I did not pet the dog but I very much wanted to as it came gambolling over to me looking for a tickle and a treat I think. Grin

adaline · 18/03/2020 12:09

But neither are you!

Jesus.

PickAChew · 18/03/2020 12:11

I'm more and more convinced we have to. Had to visit the pharmacy. This morning, and after paying, turned round to find a woman virtually standing on my heels.

Stupid me apologised to her when a mouthful might have been more appropriate.

expatinspain · 18/03/2020 17:29

If the numbers fly up like they did here in Spain, then you will. It’s how it happened here. First schools closed in certain areas, lockdowns in corona hot spots, then all schools closed, then bars & restaurants and then lockdown of the whole country. When people from Madrid started travelling to their holiday homes it wasn’t long before the whole country was put on lockdown because people can’t be trusted to be responsible sadly.

Pickanee · 18/03/2020 17:32

I think they should. Plenty of people will get it when lockdown stops and that will be at a time when more ventilators have been made (hopefully) and the NHS is not running at full capacity. Obviously it’s all a bit weird just now and plenty of people are taking advantage of their freedom before it ends. We live near quite a lot of army bases and they seem to be doing different types of training this last week!

salcombebabe · 18/03/2020 17:42

Yes, I think it will be Friday and I’ve also heard that the army are being drafted in to patrol the streets particularly at night to ensure that people stay indoors!!

Hanywany · 18/03/2020 17:43

I think we need to! I'm looking out of my window today and all I'm seeing is people scanning around, taking the baby for a stroll, walking the dogs, grabbing a coffee, chit chatting in the street and generally fucking socialising! I swear to God some people are just utter cretins or really really fucking selfish! We need school closers and lockdowns and some kind of control with regards to online food shopping, also some sort of testing kits available to all now and not in 4 weeks time! This country is just shit in a crisis! And were all fucked because we have a stupid mop haired twat running it! Theres no fucking hope (rant over feel better now)AngryConfused

Fallonuk · 18/03/2020 17:44

Yes. One of my parents works for home office and has said end of this week we will be on lockdown.

coronamoana · 18/03/2020 17:44

once you close the schools you need lockdown surely

M2B19 · 18/03/2020 17:46

Considering the news right now regarding school closures I think it’s only a matter of time. Possibly Friday if not definitely next week.

Hanywany · 18/03/2020 17:46

standing

Bearlover16 · 18/03/2020 17:46

I have it on good authority that we are going into a 15 day lockdown on Friday.

Hanywany · 18/03/2020 17:46

Not scanning

Rachel1874 · 18/03/2020 17:53

I think so, too many idiots not taking it seriously enough because its "just advise".

Starfish75 · 18/03/2020 17:53

We lost 32/33 today. Italy lost 500! Can you imagine losing that many people in a day?? This is what we will face in the next few weeks if you don’t act and don’t listen to the govt advice now.
Yes, we will be bored shitless but we’ll get through it alive ourselves and not indirectly kill someone else. Is it not worth that?
Please listen, please stay at home, only essential travel, keep your distance and wash your hands. Life will be different afterwards of course be we can all start over.
