Just that really. I understand theirs a lot of suggesting going on but will they officially make people stay in or take responsibility?

There will be controls, you need to have a proper authorisation to leave your house, every day, so it won’t be that we can all just go for a walk to relieve the boredom. This will be patrolled too.

I'm currently in voluntary lockdown in Europe. Everyone has obeyed the request. It is still possible to go for a walk and go food shopping and there are no patrols. Supermarkets are open for an hour for the vulnerable and less mobile and the local council has set up a volunteer service to get groceries and medicines to those who cannot get them themselves.

The civil defence corps has been mobilised - at the moment they are working with the supermarkets and logistics companies to keep the supply of groceries going.

In those few areas of the country that are in quarantine - i.e. total compulsory lockdown - it is still possible to get out for food and medicines, and walking around the immediate area is also allowed, but with a completed form and carrying ID. The UK differs in many ways from much of the rest of Europe in many respects - not least the requirement to always carry official ID.

I hope the whole of England goes into lockdown sooner rather than later. SOoner could be 3 months, otherwise we could be looking at 6months+ based on the models.

This isn't going to disappear. Chances are we have 3 months lockdown, an easing of restrictions and a second wave and second lockdown over Autumn and Winter. Many reports suggest we could be fully unlocked if a vaccine is found in Summer 2021.

I went to the park this morning and had to leave because it was full of people!
*As far as I can tell, no one is following the rules and it's making me cross!
*
"The irony!"

I left because I wasn't able to stay 1.5m away from people which is the advice. Hmm
The other people there were standing close to each other etc, I went up to the gate (after walking along empty roads to get there) and left as soon as I saw it was rammed.
I can't see the problem with this.

I live in London. Heard that they are sending the military out for London to be on lock down?? Have no idea if it’s true, but heard from a few different sources. So maybe?

PlomBear · 19/03/2020 13:06

Nobody knows but I wish people would stop spreading made up rumours! We don’t know if we’ll have a form to fill in like in France for example.

I was really annoyed yesterday night at the people saying they’ll be lockdown from today and the army and tanks are on the move.

There are not going to be tanks at the bottom of your road and soldiers patrolling the streets.

PlomBear · 19/03/2020 13:07

N0tJustY0ga - Downing Street have denied this. The military may be used for helping deliver supplies. Not enforcing an imaginary lockdown.

jillybeanclevertips · 19/03/2020 13:08

Sadly I think it will come to this, mainly due to the ignorant ones who think these rules don't apply to them. It will have to be seen to be being enforced, with police stopping folk and asking them why they are out and about, and when the police cannot do it, then we should bring in our forces to help, I don't like to think of using our militia in this way, but desperate times call for desperate measures, London is a prime example, yesterday the buses and tubes were still as full as any other day, and yet London has the worst spread of this virus. I'd like to give a shout out to all the stubborn people who don't think the rules apply to them, "Wake up and smell the coffee, " For every funeral we are going to witness I'd like to see the courtage drive through the towns.

PlomBear · 19/03/2020 13:10

The military won’t be patrolling the streets. They will have no authority over looters etc to arrest them. They aren’t going to start shooting people. It’s not Northern Ireland circa 1972.

EhOh · 19/03/2020 13:21

Does that mean you can't travel from city to city? I'm planning to go up to my mum's for several months so she can look after DS while I wfh
Is that a joke?! How old is your mum?

YukoandHiro · 19/03/2020 13:34

Unless your mum is under 60 I would say that's a terrible idea

Tonyaster · 19/03/2020 15:14

There's already a pack of grandkids here being looked after by granny. They are entitled brats as well, running feral round the village. They are called Ivo, Jago and Birdy, just for reference.

Devlesko · 19/03/2020 15:29

Tony

Aw, that's so sad. Who would leave children with gp's atm, selfish arses.
They think money is more important than their own parents lives.
This world is just greed greed and more greed.
I hope granny gets to see her next birthday. Sad Angry

covetingthepreciousthings · 19/03/2020 16:33

I hope it's going to be the announcement this afternoon.

ShockThe teenagers who are currently off school in this town were going round spitting at people and laughing yesterday. So the sooner the better in my opinion.

Rosehip10 · 19/03/2020 18:43

Why won't bojo close pubs. MadHmm

busyhonestchildcarer · 20/03/2020 20:39

Actually. He is following exactly the same path as all the other countries only slower. He was initially looking at herding but it's happening faster than than he thought and he knows the hospital's won't cope so he is moving towards lockdown The biggest threat isn't the virus but people's attitudes to it.If everyone sticks to rules it'll be controlled but the people in the UK haven't listened so a forced lockdown is coming

AutumnRose1 · 20/03/2020 20:47

Does anyone know what lockdown has meant for public transport in other countries? Can they find ways to get key workers to work without it? I’m in London and can see it woukd be awful to be a nurse, work a hellish shift and then wait longer fir a Tube because they’re less frequent.

LottieBees19 · 21/03/2020 00:21

Boris. emphasised that transport would stay open this afternoon. You will be able to get to work.
Lock down will be necessary as even with pubs, cafes closed people are still meeting socially. Especially with good weather parks etc will be full of mums and children. Our local zoo is still open.
Lock down for London first then rest of the country , in days I hope.

LeeMiller · 21/03/2020 09:36

@AutumnRose1 in Italy public transport is running for people to get to work, but with reduced service and lots of controls. It's been suggested that in some cities reducing metro/bus services has been counter-productive as carriages are too crowded to respect the 1m rule, I'm not sure how this is evolving or being policed.

Havanananana · 21/03/2020 11:06

@AutumnRose1

Where I am in Europe, public transport is running but to a much-reduced timetable as there are far fewer passengers due to the general lockdown. Nobody is supposed to be outside except for key workers. For major facilities such as hospitals, the buses are timetabled so that the key workers can get to and from their employment without undue delay, e.g. timed to meet shift changes. Probably more difficult to do in a major city like London, but not impossible if TfL planners are tasked with coming up with something similar.

All of the buses here have central doors as well as front doors. The front doors are closed and the first two rows of seats are cordoned off. Everyone enters and leaves using the central doors so that the drivers do not come into contact with passengers. Tickets must be bought online, from machines or using cards (similar to Oyster).

moochpooch · 21/03/2020 14:10

Are you allowed out for exercise in Italy?

AutumnRose1 · 21/03/2020 18:16

Thank you for replies

LeeMiller · 21/03/2020 21:15

@moochpooch They've tightened the rules but you can still exercise alone, near your house.
