Just turning in here in Italy.

Such a jumble of thoughts and feelings. Normal life going on, but not going on normally. Hard to explain, but I'm sure others feel the same.

Ventilatorshortage · 16/03/2020 22:40

Trying I'm sure whilst vaccination is the ultimate goal, other places are working on drugs like the hiv drug?.
Over the numerous threads someone alluded to somewhere in Salisbury working on the something?

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 16/03/2020 22:41

What annoys me - and I'm not particularly pro/con closing the schools, so long as I can take my children out - is the amount of people all year complaining that school isn't childcare. Then a national emergency comes along where it potentially may be beneficial to close the schools, and all of a sudden it's "but what will I do for childcare?"!

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2020 22:41

Sansa thanks v interesting to read that

For school age dc it would be quite easy if you wfh to be home together

But I’d keep open for essential workers like Germany and other countries

Because they said children get it lightly but it does feel crazy to be here waiting for them to bring CV home

Ventilatorshortage · 16/03/2020 22:41

Twenty, it's the most bizzare thing isn't it.

It's also made me think, do I need a bread marker?
Should I buy chickens?.

WhyNotMe40 · 16/03/2020 22:42

I'm only now getting my head around the idea that social isolation / withdrawal could go on for 18 months. It's actually helped me reconcile to myself that I can't hide away to stop myself getting it - all those models/ simulations showed the entire population eventually catching it.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 22:42

Sam Coates Sky -'One more thing

First signs of worry about whether pushing ahead with the COP climate summit in November is now a good idea. Massive global effort needed to make success; but now attention will understandably be diverted.

Some asking is it better to scale back?

Or just cancel?'

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2020 22:44

Also I really appreciate that they’ve said how long haul it will be.

Pretty much everywhere else has April dates for reopening and at least that part is honest.

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 22:45

@MarshaBradyo honestly if you want to keep your dcs out until Easter, I would. Schools will probably be secretly grateful to have kids off if they need to merge classes. If you ring up and say that someone in the house has a cough then they won't question you.

I would hate to be a head trying to keep a school running right now!

Exochord · 16/03/2020 22:45

All SOLT, UK Theatre and Ambassador Theatre venues have closed. The smaller independent theatres in my area remain open simply because they can’t afford to break their contracts. They can’t close unless they’re not at fault and therefore not liable.

Exochord · 16/03/2020 22:46

Pretty much everywhere else has April dates for reopening
This seems very overly optimistic to me. We’ll be at peak virus by then.

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2020 22:46

Sansa I don’t know! They both really want to go and I find it hard to stop that for them. It feels like a game of chicken. I’m just seeing how I feel each day.

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2020 22:47

Exochord I doubt it will stick, they’ll have to extend

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 22:48

Darren McCaffrey - 'UK Government Health Minister Newsnight;;
“I hope the government guidance today has been clear” in one breath.
Asked by Mark Urban two seconds later should people cancel their wedding in three weeks, after stumbling says “you’ll have to wait for the detail”

CLEAR AS MUD'

tryingtoprep · 16/03/2020 22:48

Yes that's the one Ventilatorshortage the HIV drug apparently showed a lot of promise. Several other drugs have also helped in some cases. I don't know if we have enough in stock? I hope so.

TwentyViginti · 16/03/2020 22:48

Ventilatorshortage have to admit - getting chickens hasn't been one of my thoughts! Grin

Great idea though, if possible!

Ventilatorshortage · 16/03/2020 22:49

The imperial document is looking at this over two years... 😲.

There are Skype lessons available, stuff like that for learning.
What we all want to buy is time.
Time for our government to actually realise we need more ventilators. Time for staff, students etc to be trained on them. Time for hotels etc to be requisitioned and turned into emergency hospitals.. Time for ppe to be made, more testing available.

Time for the drugs development to ease this and the vaccination to stop it. Time to simply study it.

Surely we all need to lock down to buy time!

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 22:49

I think in some other countries, we may see waves of stuff opening and then closing again as new waves come through. I don't know how effective that would be at flattening the curve.

On a really selfish note, if schools close for the foreseeable, I only have a one year contract and I'll be out of work in September and not getting paid =/

BeardedMum · 16/03/2020 22:49

I am taking my youngest out of school now. I don’t trust BJ and his scientists. I think their strategy too risky. I will see where we are at after Easter.

lau1998 · 16/03/2020 22:50

@SansaSnark
@Calmonthesurfacebut
Thank you both for your kind words and advice. I've been on the ball with checking our temperatures it's driving me a bit loopy but fingers crossed we have no future symptoms.
My grandfather has parkisons and a few minor problems, so I am as worried as I could get so a bit of reassurance does help as some of the media is a bit brutal to read.
Also sending a letter and getting the children to make him something is a great idea, thank you.
Wishing you and your families the best Star

Ventilatorshortage · 16/03/2020 22:51

Trying, we don't have seen the to have anything in stock.

I can't get eggs anywhere. With dc at home and desperate for pets perhaps now is the time to get some chucks... And maybe those poor battery ones?.

It would certainly lift their spirits. But we have foxes round here and also rat issues..

fedup21 · 16/03/2020 22:52

It looks very likely that my school will close if not tomorrow, then the next day. So many teachers who are pregnant and with underlying health conditions that we can’t staff it.

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 22:53

@marshabraydo I agree it's tricky - if they are both healthy and want to go in, it's hard to make that call. I agree, play it by ear and see what school are doing.

Mine has cancelled assemblies and after school events as preventative measures and they are being proactive about sending children and staff showing symptoms home.
