Cjt agreed. Your mum shouldn't be seeing your son anymore 😔

LuxLFC · 17/03/2020 06:43

@QueenofmyPrinces I would think so. There were early reports about the virus causing seizures IIRC.

Fortheselfemployed · 17/03/2020 06:44

Murraythemonk I'm stressed enough with the thought of what I have to do at work today but your day sounds horrendous, will be thinking of you all day.

RedToothBrush · 17/03/2020 06:46

I think the top estimate of the number of UK cases is 50,000.

And yet we've already exported 8 cases to China.

I find these two numbers quite hard to reconcile tbh.

@ValleyoftheHorses thanks for that information. Also have a bit of tooth which is broken off (and am pregnant too) but not hurting so think I will leave it. Your approach sounds v sensible.

I am so confused about what I’m supposed to be / will be doing. 15 weeks pregnant, nurse in an acute hospital. My job involves going to all different wards, including ITU. Working there at the weekend there were plenty of ?covid patients dotted about. Not enough side rooms so some of them nursed in bays (with pretty much pointless PPE). The new advice tells us pregnant women are to manage themselves like the over 70s and people with chronic conditions, but I cannot see me (or any other pregnant HCPs) being able to stay off work for the next 12 weeks when the NHS is about to experience the biggest crisis in its history. There seems little point in me ‘social distancing’ for my own protection, if I am still going to be surrounded by people, and CV at work. Surely that is riskier than anything else I might do!

So sad to see people agree my son shouldn’t be visiting my mum for a while. I know it’s the right decision but so sad too because he’s so close to her

oneteen · 17/03/2020 06:48

I assume they really stopped testing because they did not have enough PPE...

SansaSnark · 17/03/2020 06:50

A lot of people on my Facebook are very concerned about how yesterday's announcement affects small businesses - although I think people can see the need for this. They just want to be told to close and given help to get through the worst patch.

From a justice minister posted last night

Chris Philip @cPhilipofficial
To confirm that Courts will be operating normally tomorrow. Of course people who need to self-isolate as per the medical advice should do so. But for those not in isolation, Justice will continue and Jurors should attend Court tomorrow as per their Summons

ThankyouPeter · 17/03/2020 06:54

I think the thing that struck me yesterday was the fact that it isn't just the deaths from the coronavirus that we are facing. They made it quite clear in the press conference that the pressure on the NHS will lead to deaths for other things which may have previously been treatable. I don't know whether all the graphs and figures we are seeing even take those deaths into account.

RedToothBrush · 17/03/2020 06:57

Meanwhile in the US they are panic buying guns

I do keep thinking that at least I'm not in the US.

They don't

Fortheselfemployed · 17/03/2020 07:02

Red my thoughts exactly.

Does anyone else keep expecting Derren Brown to jump out and say "surprise, it's just a joke" or is it just me? It all feels very surreal.

RedToothBrush · 17/03/2020 07:05

The New York Times @nytimes
After her shifts in the emergency room, one doctor in Utah strips naked on her porch and runs to a shower, trying not to contaminate her home.

“Most physicians have never seen this level of angst and anxiety in their careers,” another doctor said.

@ThankyouPeter A week or so ago, I read something from an Italian doctor saying that if patients came in following an RTA or a stroke, who would normally survive with ICU care, at the moment they don't always have a bed available. The knock on effect across the whole health system needs to be considered.

RedToothBrush · 17/03/2020 07:08

No. I had that moment a while ago.

I said goodbye to my friends.

I said goodbye to my parents.

I've had a good cry.

No I'm sitting waiting for the tsunami to hit. I can see it. I can hear it coming. But it's not arrived yet.

I am wondering what will be left. Who will be left.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 17/03/2020 07:11

littledrummer we have this exact same conversation most evenings. It feels like a weird messed up dream. and I fear this is going to last a lot longer than we all can realise and rationalise in our heads. I hope mental health services are given a massive cash injection as we are going to see a lot more people needing them over the coming years.

SubjectMatterExpert · 17/03/2020 07:11

what is happening in schools where they have suspected cases? In DD1s school someone was sent home yesterday with symptoms. No message from school

‘Try Getting It Yourselves,’ Trump Tells Governors About Medical Equipment Amid Coronavirus
The president was speaking to governors on a conference call as COVID-19 cases increase across the country.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, President Donald Trump told governors on a call Monday that states should work on acquiring much-needed medical equipment, such as ventilators or respirators, on their own.

“Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment — try getting it yourselves,” the president told the governors during a conference call, first reported The New York Times, which obtained a recording of the call. (CNN later confirmed the report.)

“We will be backing you, but try getting it yourselves. Point of sales, much better, much more direct if you can get it yourself,” he said.

@QueenofmyPrinces I would think so. There were early reports about the virus causing seizures IIRC.

I’m feeling anxious because I have epilepsy and I am also a nurse working on a ward where a large percentage of our patients are admitted for respiratory difficulties.

CricketCrocket · 17/03/2020 07:14

Subject The achool I work in will stay open if we have a confirmed case 🤷‍♀️

Dk20 · 17/03/2020 07:15

@redtoothbrush I also find that it hard to believe that max cases will be 50,000. Especially when here in Ireland the government told us to expect 15,000 by the end of this month, and they have taken more action faster than the UK.

SubjectMatterExpert · 17/03/2020 07:15

Thanks @cricket. It makes sense, as the plan is to spread it

CricketCrocket · 17/03/2020 07:19

@Subject Yeah and that includes to the staff!!
