Do you have a holiday booked for the Easter break and, if so, where to and are you still planning to go!

We’re meant to be going to Abu Dhabi on 31 March. We are hoping that the flights are cancelled and we will get a refund (it’s a hotel and flight package that we booked with an agent) . Otherwise, we will try to rearrange for an alternative time. The thought of losing £6.5k when my husband’s business is already struggling because of the virus makes me feel sick.

We were supposed to be going to the Maldives for DHs 40th. Cancelled as we don’t live in UK and where we live is banning countries by the day and we can’t risk not getting back!

The GCC states are not mucking around with regards to putting safeguards in place and only today where I live the government has closed all schools, educational establishments and mosques. This is on top of banning all cruise ships from entering our ports, banning people from certain countries entering at all and making it almost impossible for others to enter the country.

To be quite honest I wouldn’t come and whilst you may lose your money it’s better that than wakening up one morning whilst in this part of the world and finding there are even more restrictions that mean you’re well and truly stuffed in different ways.

Ghana, South Africa... seriously? Very selfish to go on a holiday somewhere like that from a country with a high number of cases (the UK)

It is obvious from the scattered incidences in this country that it was mainly brought in from holidaymakers over half term.

The chain needs to stop somewhere.

I live in a tourist hotspot in the US - I really wouldn't encourage anyone to visit.

The tourist attractions, cafes, restaurants, museums, art galleries, and shops have all closed or are in the process of closing. There are no events happening - they've all been cancelled.

The supermarkets have queues out the door of people stocking up ready for possible lockdown. There is a serious shortage of food on the shelves this weekend.

Really, don't come.

My dad has just texted to say he is stranded in the canaries. That's swing it for us - we aren't going to the canaries next month

The thing is that even if we wanted to go some of the unaffected countries may ban people from the UK as we are an affected country.
Uganda prevented some delegates from Italy from entering the country. The Italian delegates had refused to self isolate for two weeks ( whilst In Uganda) , so they were sent back.
These countries have enough problems without exposing their people to coronavirus

OTOH, many of the top-end restaurants here are switching to a takeout/delivery model, so if your idea of an amazing holiday is getting some really great food delivered to your hotel room while you contemplate the fact that the person cleaning your room doesn't qualify for sick pay and will be coming to work no matter what Covid-19 symptoms they display then you'll have a wonderful time.

Banff freestyle skiing course for son has all but been cancelled. Was end March into April. Fair enough, Canadians are saying anyone entering the country must do a two week self isolation. And international flights to Calgary will stop. I’m not worried about the money, this feels bigger than that, but if the course itself is cancelled we will get it back.

Portugal and spain early April. We have decided not to go. Ultimately it s the lives of other people at risk, not our own. We could cancel accommodation. Not sure what will happen to flights as we were due to fly to Portugal, not Spain . We may lose the money but it is worth it looking at how much more could be lost if we went.

@Andonandonan which canton are you headed to? We are currently 10th in the world, which given the size of the country, is impressive. I am in Vaud which is a hotspot. My (elderly) parents are due to fly next month. I don't want them to come but they are insisting it's ok.

I hope the flights are cancelled

@vegansprinkle yes Vaud. We’ve decided we definitely won’t be coming now though. Just have to hope FCO advise against travel so we can get flights back on insurance though I think it’s unlikely.

@vegansprinkle oh meant to say re your parents - Swiss who our flights are with are letting anyone booked up to end of April reschedule to the end of the year.

How does the insurance work for travel bans to US? We currently stand to lose around 15k.

I appreciate theres people out there dying, this is having greater impacts on economy etc but I also am entitled to feel like I need to lick my wounds at the moment. Selfish as that may be. If this becomes a battle of survival and jobs losses are on the cards due to a crumbling economy the 15k will be needed for mortgage payments!

@Andonandonan good to know, I will let my friends know. Sadly the only flights from my home town are EasyJet, not sure they will be so generous. But we will see.

No and if I had I wouldn't go. Next year will do as well. A holiday is not essential even though it is something to look forward to.

There are many people who have to travel both nationwide and abroad for their work and are unable to do so because of Corona virus - some aren't even going to be paid. When I think of that it puts things in perspective.

Quite right, don't be too disappointed. Hopefully you can go in the future.

Think about it, if travel to the USA was allowed the chances are you wouldn't be able to get back home, I imagine it won't be long before our government restricts incomers - am surprised it hasn't already happened.

I have an American friend who has to stay over here for the time being, she is a singer who was on a European tour which was cut short in France. She came here from France with a musician friend, intending to go off to Germany next week but that too has been cancelled and she is not allowed to go home until she has self isolated for four weeks. I wonder what the state of the races will be in four weeks! Luckily she is a laid back sort of person and just accepts how it is.
