Do you have an overseas holiday booked for Easter

Do you have a holiday booked for the Easter break and, if so, where to and are you still planning to go!

OP posts:

Also Austria and Germany. The Austria part is not happening as all the ski resorts in the Tyrol are being closed. The Germany part is still up in the air, but I expect it will end up being cancelled if things continue as they are.

NotAnotherNameChangePlease · 12/03/2020 21:08

I can’t believe so many people are thinking they’ll be going on holiday in a couple of weeks. I don’t know if it’s madness or stupidity.

Jodri · 12/03/2020 21:10

I understand they are closing all schools in Austria from Monday but you can use them for child supervision if required.
My Austrian relations say the streets are like a ghost town.

BG2015 · 12/03/2020 21:17

I don't think any of us 'presume' we'll be going on holiday - we just don't know.

When you've spent thousands of pounds on a holiday that's been booked for over a year it's very difficult to let that go. It's not madness or stupidity.

Forumqueen · 12/03/2020 21:20

As someone has already said what difference does it really make if you travel ....being that you are going to destinations with similar situations as the U.K. they might ban all travel but if they don’t then everyone is within their rights to travel.

EmmaStone · 12/03/2020 21:29

US for Easter. If Trump decides to ban UK travellers, we're not covered by our insurance. We should be able to get our flights changed (and possibly refunded), and I think our car hire, but our villa cost will be lost and I can't imagine the owners will let us rebook for free at a different date. Just waiting to hear what each day brings, we'll be gutted if we can't go, but it is what it is.

bengalcat · 12/03/2020 21:31

Skiing in the French alps - flying into Geneva end March . Still going .

bengalcat · 12/03/2020 21:34

Assuming the flight still taking off and resort remains open .

Bloomburger · 12/03/2020 21:35

Abu Dhabi at Easter unless there are flight restrictions in place we'll be going.

zafferana · 12/03/2020 21:35

We were going to go to Israel. We cancelled yesterday.

BeardedMum · 12/03/2020 21:36

We we’re going to Spain. Obviously not travelling now.

MonaChopsis · 12/03/2020 21:37

Portugal at Easter. Will go if flights don't get cancelled, but haven't yet booked accommodation as I suspect they might be. Like others, I wouldn't book this now knowing what I know, but it was booked last October. If I cancelled without ability to get a refund, not only would I lose out on my first overseas holiday in 3 years with my daughter, I'd lose any chance of going overseas in the 2-3 years. I can't afford to cancel just because.

vegansprinkle · 12/03/2020 21:38

@bengalcat you are a fool. I live in the area. Don't.

ifonly4 · 12/03/2020 21:50

Crete in April. Would normally be starting to look forward to it. We're going to review a few days before.

The government did say last week that it'll get to the stage where it's go bad everywhere that it won't make any difference whether you're in the Uk or abroad. The one thing to consider is the standard of healthcare in the country you're going to.

WhereAreAllTheLooRolls · 13/03/2020 00:26

@Corneliawildthing Depends who you are flying with. Easyjet aren't refunding the flights to the Czech Republic as they're saying it's not they who have cancelled the flights. Terrible attitude for them to take IMO.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/03/2020 00:36

The government did say last week that it'll get to the stage where it's go bad everywhere that it won't make any difference whether you're in the Uk or abroad. The one thing to consider is the standard of healthcare in the country you're going to.

But you also might want to consider what happens if you have to be isolated abroad, or if they have a shutdown like in Italy, or if flights home are cancelled.

We had a holiday in Sicily in May booked. DH (59 with a few risk factors) realised early what might happen and cancelled a month ago before we had to pay for it so we only lost our deposit.

SpeckledyHen · 13/03/2020 00:43

Son’s trip to Prague cancelled yesterday, due to go April 1st .

MovinOnUp · 13/03/2020 01:21

I've got a self-catering lodge booked at Crieff Hydro (1.5hrs by train)
I don't know whether to go or not.

On one hand we could go and self-isolate in the cabin and order in lots of yummy food, A change being as good as a rest maybe? I would have to take precautions whilst travelling (Not sure what...latex gloves?, bleach spray for cleaning the table? Tell the kids they have to hold it and not use the loo?)

My best friend and I have a break booked to the Costa Del Sol at the beginning of May....I'm thinking no. A train for an hour and a bit is one thing, Airports and aeroplanes are a horse of a different colour.

Vallderama · 13/03/2020 01:25

Nobody should be travelling anywhere they don't need to right now.

JulietTango · 13/03/2020 01:30

We're going to Australia on Tuesday. Still going at the moment. I will be phoning our insurance people tomorrow to make sure we'll be covered if we get ill while we're there though

Zombiemum1946 · 13/03/2020 01:42

We're booked to go to Florida to go to Disney. Disney has now shut down, have no idea wtf I'm going to do now or tell the kids. Can't cancel the flights or resort. I'm assuming if Disney has shut then everything else will be. Just gob smacked by how screwed we are after 4 years of saving. Don't think the travel insurance will cover this.

OwlsFlyByNight · 13/03/2020 02:03

We are supposed to fly to the US at Easter, I’m hoping they ban flights from the UK, I’m assuming then the insurance will pay out? Hope I’m right about that part.

Either way I don’t really want to go so far from home when everything is so unstable.

TravelDreamLife · 13/03/2020 02:10

Japan (from Brisbane). Cancelled because it's just to crazy atm. Everything is closed, temperature checking at airports with two constantly sniffly kids, flight cancellations, etc. Also don't feel like we can experience the real japan under the current conditions.
We'll rebook for next year & go for longer as a compromise.

DeeCeeCherry · 13/03/2020 02:33

Ghana in May, Paris in September. If no travel ban I'm going.

BritWifeinUSA · 13/03/2020 02:52

@Zombiemum1946 Disney is closed until the end of March only. It’ll be open at Easter.

We are going to Europe next month. Nothings stopping me.
