Do you have an overseas holiday booked for Easter

Do you have a holiday booked for the Easter break and, if so, where to and are you still planning to go!

OP posts:

I'm the same - Mexico at Easter. Can't really go until next Easter as I'm a teacher. We're going to ask for our money back. Relunctant to rebook incase they go bump.

Did you understand from the email that THEY will ring us?

We also have a TUI holiday booked for August so may have to go through all of this again. I imagine many people are in the same situation

happilybemused · 18/03/2020 07:16

After cancellation of Maldives trip at end of March yesterday we have been offered to rebook with a discount of 10%. Can't see an end to it in the near future and concerns that they will go under in the meantime so have requested refund.

Can I just add that it's perfectly natural and not unfeeling to be disappointed and upset.

The number of people who think to feel this way is unreasonable

A friend has had to cancel her wedding and the number of people who have told her off for feeling upset
Hmm

thistimeofyear · 18/03/2020 22:51

It is perfectly ok to feel disappointed and upset and if I had to cancel my wedding I'd be especially entitled to cry ... a lot! F*k those people who think it is unreasonable
I SO need a holiday (as do all of us I know x)

Confused as to who I try and get a refund from for my package hol:

MasterCard, LoveHolidays or insurance company??

mothtoaflame · 21/03/2020 15:43

@DorsetCamping we received our refund from Tui as they cancelled our holiday so were liable for costs.

To others that had Mexico booked for Easter, I'm really keen to re-book for Christmas but am concerned firms will go under. Are you going to hold tight and re-book closer to the time? I'm worried our preferred resort may be fully booked, but no one can predict what will happen with CV. I need something to look forward to now.

DorsetCamping · 21/03/2020 16:04

Thanks @mothtoaflame Out of nterest when were you due to fly out? Our holiday was booked for 8 April - not heard anything yet.

LH hasn't actually said whether they have officially cancelled holidays. Have assumed as EasyJet (our flight element) have cancelled and what FCO have said but LHs position could make all the difference in terms of refunds Confused

mothtoaflame · 21/03/2020 16:08

We were also due to fly out on 8th. Luckily I booked in store rather than online so the In store staff were able to issue a refund via telephone. The online staff are inundated at the moment so just taking a bit longer to process.

MonaChopsis · 21/03/2020 19:03

I'm due to fly out on the 8th with Easyjet and haven't had an email yet offering a refund (I can't rebook at the moment). Have any other Easyjet refundees been contacted, or did you have to contact them??

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 21/03/2020 19:38

I was supposed to be flying with easyjet on 4 April- flight hasn't been cancelled yet. I assume (hope!) it will be after tuesday when they ground their fleet.

Itsjustmee · 22/03/2020 20:23

If your scared that holiday firms will go under book a package holiday and not flight and hotel as a separate bookings and pay at least £100 on a credit card
That way your pretty much covered for anything happening

DareToEatAPeach · 22/03/2020 20:36

I agree travelling to a country worse affected would be unwise. But not a country similarly affected. It’s only like driving from England to Wales.

Surely this logic only sort-of works if your sole concern is catching the disease? Though, of course, going on holiday greatly expands your social interactions so there may be lower cases but a higher number of social touchpoints may mean you are not safer.

As soon as you factor in transporting it then the whole argument falls down completely. The last thing better off countries needs is people from high infection countries bringing it in. But people don't seem to care about that...

Plus, no one should be driving from England to Wales right now either!

DropZoneOne · 22/03/2020 22:15

@mothtoaflame

Booking your next holiday now will help holiday companies stay afloat (and their staff will do a happy dance). Book a package holiday with an ATOL member and, as a pp said, use your credit card for extra financial protection.

Spain next month. Not a chance in hell will I be going.

terriblyangryattimes · 22/03/2020 22:18

Yes me. Our return flight was cancelled last week which rather took the decision out of our hands and the borders have now been closed anyway indefinitely.

minimummum · 22/03/2020 22:32

Malta but it's been cancelled by the tour operator. Waiting to be refunded.

The80sweregreat · 22/03/2020 22:35

Spain :(
Won't happen

Package holiday refund rules to be suspended - The Independent
apple.news/Aw4a8iCWbTJ-l3nx2d8DZzA

Sorry not sure if the link works but a friend sent me this.

happilybemused · 23/03/2020 12:07

I thought that would be coming. Can rebook within two years. Only after that if you still haven't spent it will you get a refund.

Very tough on people who's jobs are vulnerable and were relying on a refund.

At least the government are acting as guarantor. Something at least.
